How can a man labeled to be an intellectual promote GWB as having any responsibility for anything the pour soul did. He had the IQ of a chimpanzee, looked and behaved like one and was without question the village idiot that some obscure forces had put in place as a puppet that amused certain people for a while but terrorized most for too long. This man (Podhoretz) is dangerous; feeble minded people might believe some of his nonsense.
That's because he's the one who has hijacked America's foreign policy so that the country followed his direction when it came to fighting a war that wasn't ours to fight.
In 20 years the the current long time overdue economic crisis will be forgotten and Bush will be remembered for his massive response to Sept 11th, his invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. The removal of violent dictators from Central Asia and the heart of the middle east and the establishment of the early stages of democracy and increased economic, political and press freedom will transform the culture of the region forever.
Bush didn't stop at Afghanistan, he went on into Iraq. If Truman had invaded some side country, maybe there would be something more to compare. The Bush administration will be listed in history books, as the worst administration ever.
maybe you didn't understand this man's point...he said bush recognized a threat and acted on it much like truman did. that is pretty close comparison.
I partially agree with you. Certain Leftist ideas are morally bankrupt. For example, certain African American leaders, Al Sharpton is a great example, love to accuse their critics of "racism". Neoconservatives, who loudly proclaim that they have rejected the Left, love to accuse their critics of "antiSemitism". When you have a losing hand, you can always play the race card.
i do agree that bush will be remembered as a better president than he is currently thought of. he's been terrible on spending and entitlements, but he recognized the threat of radical islam more clearly than most. he's clearly miles above clinton.
That was a ridiculous argument. To compare Truman to 'W' is laughable in the extreme. The comparison with Korea is only valid with people who know nothing about the Korean War.

It's nice every now and then to hear an intellectual actually agree with something America has done. I hope he is right.

That comment has no credibility today, but I will keep my eyes open in 20 years to see what does happen and wonder what took so long!

This was nice. I think that the comparison is compelling. People forget how unpopular Truman was.

Commentary is a great magazine, when you run out of toilet paper. When I run out of Commentary I use the Public Interest and the New Criterion.

You wouldn't last twenty-five minutes in a debate with Roger Kimball. It is the ideas of the left that are old and broken.
