I have the same exact issue. I just bought a new unibody 15inch MBP and 50% of the time the mbp goes to sleep and it wont wake up unless i do a hard reset. its very annoying. I have tried to reset the SMC ,delete plist filed etc. NOTHING works. Have you found a cure for this problem?
I ended up doing a complete erase and install of Snow Leopard again by Zeroing out the hard drive first. If you need instructions on how to format and re install, send me a message.
