I agree with goldenidol. Technique has to be a means to an end (artistic expression), not an end in itself. After all, when I was a girl in the 1930s, every ballet school taught its pupils The Dying Swan, because it was so simple (bourrees, poses and arabesques) so any competent dancer can perform it, but it takes an artist to transform it into a life and death struggle. I think it's important to distinguish between circus stunts (like fouettes) and technique.

@judyanddavid I wish I'd been taught Dying Swan! Maybe I would've stayed in ballet if I'd known about it at a younger age

No it is not a tecnical peice, but had it been danced by a less skilled or lovely dancer, this would have come off amateurish!

McKerrow dances this lightly, effortlessly, and beautifully. It is not a showpeice but she makes it lovely.
