As the main representative of Newfoundland Danny Williams is doing a terrific job. He has rejuvenated the pride we have in our Province and stands up vigorously for the rights of Newfoundlanders. Yes, as another NFlander living outside the province, I can say that some of Danny's comments and actions have been "over the top", i.e. taking down the Canadian Flag, etc. However, it is good to see a NL premier with the balls and intelligence to get the job done. This isn't always easy because of nay sayers like these loud mouth talkshow hosts who do little other that incite discontent among the sheep who follow the loudess noise. I'm with Randy Simms on this one.... having a revenue base (oil) in the short and medium term is good. However, oil is a non-renewable resource. Fisheries, agriculture, forestry,etc... are renewable resource. If we only put a fraction of that money into rebuilding those sectors, we would have a thriving and diversified economy after the oil is gone

Yes, as another NFlander living outside the province, I can say that some of Danny's comments and actions have been "over the top", i.e. taking down the Canadian Flag, etc. However, it is good to see a NL premier with the balls and intelligence to get the job done. This isn't always easy because of nay sayers like these loud mouth talkshow hosts who do little other that incite discontent among the sheep who follow the loudess noise. They contrbute little to the solution. Get 'er done Danny!

Danny's points are valid. He can't focus his time on problems that are difficult, if not impossible to solve, without funds. Instead, he's doing the right thing and focusing on projects that are huge money makers, which will give him the economic power to focus on and solve other issues such as fishery and forrestry.
And Randy Simms keeps his job by stiring trouble. He's negative, he ignores good points, he talks over people's head.
The problem is when NLers take example from him. Shame.

In response to two comments I've read on here. First of all, I am from NL and live away and I have heard other news outlets and other people speak of Danny Williams and more than half of them want Danny for their premier because he sticks up for what he believes in. To the second comment, I am PROUD that Danny would call into an open line show and give this guy a piece of his mind. People always say how politicians aren't in touch with the "little" people. I am from NL and have lived here all my life. You can bet your bottom dollar someone living in GF-W, Harbor Breton, Twillingate, Flower's Cove, Old Perlican or Triton heard yesterday's oil announcement and said "that's great, but what's in it for me??" Rather than take the time to patiently and respectfully elaborate on the benefits of oil money to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, Danny single-handedly turned yesterday's announcement into another black day for the province.

I am from the same area. You want to know whats in it for you? Better health care, better roads, better schools, etc. Where do you think all the money for that stuff comes from? What about all the money that will be put into tourism? It may not effect Central NL directly but indirectly, it'll make a huge difference. Also, why do you see it as a "black day" if other Newfoundlanders are going to benefit from it? Have you thought about all the people who will be able to move home because of this?

I am not from NFLD but I visited there about 5 years ago and again last year. I was amazed at the construction occurring in St John's. Impressible. Even if you don't like Danny, you must give him credit for creating a growth environment. Irascible, yes. Here in Ontario we have Dulton. Given the choice, Danny in a heartbeat. Even though I tend to vote CPC, I like watching the PM and Danny have the occasional dust-up. He does NFLDers well!

Oil is good but it is not a renewable resource. The Premier is losing sight of the issue. All the politicians have been reckless and irresponsible. What the Premier is talking about won't mean a hill of beans when the oil is gone. If they had take care of the fishery we would be secure forever. Get over yourself Mr. Williams!

I'm with Randy Simms on this one.... having a revenue base (oil) in the short and medium term is good. However, oil is a non-renewable resource. Fisheries, agriculture, forestry,etc... are renewable resource. If we only put a fraction of that money into rebuilding those sectors, we would have a thriving and diversified economy after the oil is gone
