  • The funding cuts to CBC have been a major part of the problem. CBC has chosen to fill the news hour with the same weekly opinion panels (i.e. The At Issue Panel) and the single source rants of Rex Murphy. Do I need these people telling me how to think?

What happened to investigative journalism? Is the CBC National news a government propaganda machine? Do they fear government retaliation in the way of cuts if they embarrass the government?

  • Rex Murphy is a pompous ass windbag who is Canada's William F. Buckley. As a stupid windbag, his arguments seem to meander endlessly without logic. He is a soapbox shill for the Stephen Harper's Conservatives.

Peter Mansbridge is a poor excuse for a journalist. His "One on One" show is totally boring with soft fluffy questions and no followup.

CBC should fire Rex and Peter!

I would like to see CBC fire him and the other opinionated

fools employed by the CBC National News.

  • @haroldb55

Better yet fire the CBC. Cut there funding to 0$

  • This video is a favorite on Mbabane

  • Lol I love how the deniers like to deem climate change as some fringe movement. BUT the reality is that a strong majority of Canadians believe climate change is a serious threat.

  • LOL, politics. Left-wing loonies and right-wing retards...I see no difference.

  • Once again, focusing on the trivial details and not the meat of the problem. Isnt this the guy who goes around pandering to the "climategate" situation that purportedly claimed the scientists to be liars?

    Hilarity!

The fact that such a buffoon is even on the air makes up for the lack of comedy shows in Canada.

Troll on deniers. We'll see your grandkids in cancer clinics!

  • most sensible analysis as always.

  • This guy Needs a plastic surgery lol. That's probably not a problem being now financed by the Conservatives

  • This. Is. Amazing.

  • Awesome clip!

Though I would say it is somewhat mis-labelled. Mr. Murphy is not, in my opinion, ripping on environmentalists as a whole. Rather he is making a very powerful argument to be wary of "would-be" environmentalists that offer us an excuse to be self-congratulatory while doing the absolute minimum (like using only one square of toilet paper) while the real problems facing the environment continue to be ignored.

  • This one HILARIOUS

  • looked like "fuck off" don't u think?

  • @sam9116 that is the whole reason i clicked this! XD

  • What's wrong with this guys face?

  • @Counterbrilliance : nothing. What's wrong with your brain?

  • @Counterbrilliance It's a mix of brilliance and drugs.

  • Well said Rex! I wish there were more people like you who have the balls to challenge the nonsense peddled by these environmentalist zealots.

  • bill murray / colin mochrie look-alike?

  • Good day

    hehe....

It sounded like Rex was trying to respond this way..

"How many Canadians does it take to change a light bulb?

    "Go "Flick yourself"!

    LOL :P

    Personally,..I say..

    What a stupid plot.

Close down the light bulb factory in London..Sylvania? plus others,..put umpteen 100's out of work, when yes,..we could "flick off" or put lights on timers etc.

How much Mercury will end up in the waterways etc from all the broken CFLs..then.."DON"T..whatever you do CRY abt "Oh now the water is bad!

  • The result of the whole lightbulb fiasco is this: ALL lightbulbs are now made in China. GE in London Ontario used to employ hundreds of people making lightbulbs, and not having enough time to retool to build the "new" lightbulbs they closed and laid off all of them. This is repeated country wide for thousands of Canadians. John Baird BTW is my local MPP, and a complete useless twat.

  • This is hilarious! the word flick really looks like the other f word

  • sexy rexy does it again. what a man

  • Each side is riddled with theories, and, quite frankly, there is somewhat of a balanced argument here. There is evidence the temperature is rising and that it could be from carbon emissions. It could also be from sun spots. There is no doubt that we pollute and there is no doubt that the earth has been completely covered with water before. It could be natural and it could be caused by humans. I have read extensively on the subject, and there are only theoretical conclusions on either side.

  • wow, rex is so out of touch...

  • Nice to hear some common sense for a change! We need more people like Rex Murphy to pull the skirts up on this global warming fraud. And less people like godspube down there spouting the same old nonsense, in the vain hope that one day they'll get to suck Al Gore's nob.

  • @Bzakey3 Have you ever even read research proposed by climate scientists? The earth IS experiencing global warming. "Global warming fraud," ... why don't you crack open a book and do a little research and see that the Himalayan glaciers are melting, the snow caps of Mount Kilimanjaro are also melting and the glaciers in the North are melting too. Human activity emits 70 million tonnes of CO2 into the air everyday and 25 million tonnes of that goes into the ocean. Thats why everything is melting

  • Those curly-fry light bulbs? They're BS! I had to replace them three times this year!

  • Global Warming Deniers Update: 2010 is now the hottest year on record, according to the UN's World Meteorological Organization. Michel Jarraud, secretary-general: "The 2010 data confirm the Earth's significant long-term warming trend...The 10 warmest years on record have all occurred since 1998." So much for the flaccid talk of Rip Murphy and his ilk. They aren't toughminded, unless a refusal to man up to a very threatening reality can somehow be spun as rigid analysis.

  • Clever stupidity. An educated Don Cherry.

  • Clever stupidity.

  • Face it: global warming is real, and it has been caused by human agency. Face it: if our children and grandchildren are to have decent lives we must change our polluting ways now! Commentators such as this guy are seductive loudmouths who tell us sweet nothings that we want to hear only so that we have excuses, however fabricated, to just lie down and feel fuzzy while the planet goes to hell.

  • @godsdude You'd have to be pretty damn narcissistic to think that humans can really affect the world to the degree you suggest. It's not a matter of taking responsibility for our actions, it's a matter of realizing that the world will do whatever it wants, the human race be damned. I'm all for taking care of the environment, but REALLY.

  • STOP GLOBAL WHINING !!!!!!!!!!!!

    'Nuff already !

  • Lol! Rex Murphy has been the best part of the CBC since ever! ROFL @ the Cheryl Crow comment! :D

  • Rex Murphy definitely knows how to use the English language very well. He's entertaining, and he provokes thought. @ 1:58 ' Could hardly spring from such mundane matters as filling in pot-holes, or trying to end traffic jams', Rex shows his true colors and implies that sensible people like him are concerned by the real issues (pot-holes and traffic jams), car-centric, polluting issues. He should be ashamed of using his wit to turn people against thinking about more important issues!

  • As much as like Rex, I think he's wrong on this point. I would love to see him debate the other side of the medal... that progressing to a green economy would be much more beneficial to Canada that the status quo, on social and economic levels, and whether its environmentally necessary or not..

  • I like Rex Murphy... but I didn't really hear his point. It just seemed like a bunch of Ad Hominem attacks.

  • best thumbnail of a youtube video ever

  • I love the humour in an individual names "god's dude" talking about 'the truth' and refusing to face reality.

That is a special kind of introspection failure, a special kind of ignorance.

Poor ecotheist nutcase can't handle a dose of reality from Rex who by the way never denied global warming, he simply pointed out how weak the science is and how partisan the sources are.

  • @zutroy1 The science is weak? General relativity is weak because it can't comply with Quantum physics. Do we dismiss either theory? No! We take the facts we have, clouded as they are, and try to make the world a better place. Should we ignore global warming simply because some PR people had a bad day, and burn all our fossil fuels without any alternative to fall back on? No. Whether that course of action damns us tomorrow or 100 years from now, ignorance is a bad idea!

  • this dude is a candain bill o rilley

  • He needs to grow back the afro.

  • wow I never thought I would see the day when crack cocaine addicts could have their own shows

  • Forgetting this debate for a second, I wouldn't trust a single thing that came out of this Sarah Palin loving freak. If you love Palin so much Rex, please fuck off to Alaska, okay? Thanks.

  • the LI part looks like a u so its like **** off

  • rex SUCKS

  • Flick off! ^^

  • ooh, Rex can use hard words...that makes him right :P

  • I think Climategate put the canard of "Climate Change" to bed.

Rex is right, as well as any independent, free thinking man, with a modicum of common sense can see.

  • @jmzimmerman1984 can say the same of your veiws! r u sad cause your vocab is lacking? by the way read 1984 its an anti liberal tract...retard!

  • Here's some facts.

    1. CRU completely fabricated the recent numbers. It isn't getting warmer, it's getting cooler. Don't confuse weather with climate.

    2. CRU deleted or lost raw data so their scam couldn't be double checked.

    3. CRU and other activists repeatedly act more like religious zealots, than people of science. The reason is they have to. The science just isn't there. It's like Environmental-McCarthyism.

Now maybe we can make a plan for the future, that won't just pick our pockets.

  • I cannot believe someone honestly thought the "Flick Off" campaign was a good idea???!!

Makes you wonder why we vote these people in. And as for Cheryl Crow, it is clear she isn't a rockstar in the thinking and reasoning department. Just like Al Gore's lifestyle of the Rich and famous with multiple houses, do what I say, and don't do as I do!!

And for Global warming... It's all BS. The truth is out.

  • Quand tu as vraiment rien à dire, tu fais comme Rex Murphy, tu dis n'importe quoi!

  • Rex you should have said Crowe is aiming to decrease our carbon foot print by increasing our carbon skidmarks

  • Did you accuse Rex Murphy of "fatuous assertiveness"? Because that is EXACTLY the tenor of your post! I'd say godsmack has a problem with self-awareness.

  • @godsdude what a lame argument you said nothing! ok i can say u refuse to face reality! that means nothing...!

  • @godsdude : Amazing how idiots like you are brainwashed into throwing away your freedoms for a lie. People like you deserve to be a slave of the state. Wait! You already are.

  • @godsdude Do you think hes trying to deny global warming? did you listen to this video at all? hes making fun of the people trying to stop global warming and how dumb there 'advertisment campaigns' are! Also Global warming facts are still iffy, and no political party will ever fight global warming! you know why cause in most places the word "Eco-Tax" or "Carbon Tax" is political suicide

  • Nature is everything.

Green movement is greenwashed and co-opted by b.s. generalizing. It's always about lightbulbs, not about the actual coal-burning power plant. Not about fantastic, innovative alternative power sources for homes, or the damage of DUI weapons, CCStorage, Genetic Meddling, Petro-Chemical pollution, ruining drinking water, killing other creatures and their habitats etc

Houses cost half a million dollars and they can't come with a motion sensor to turn lights off?

  • That is quite a statement. But it all depends on a lot of what ifs.

But to throw in the towel already? I guess I am too much of an optimist to assume that change is not possible. After all, human history is filled with examples of change. How that change will happen is another matter. But none of us have a crystal ball.

  • Oh well. Rex can rant all her likes, it won't matter. Changes are coming whether he likes it or not.

  • Bravo Rex. I think you might always be my hero.

  • I'm contributing to global warming one shotgun blast at a time.

Of course I have to drive my gas guzzling truck to the edge of town first... wouldn't want to shatter any windows.

  • I would love to comment on this video but, because I am deaf, I cannot. Hey! CBC! Please add closed captioning for those of us unfortunate enough to be hearing impaired. Thank you.

  • ONE SQUARE!!! eeew.

  • A few less vehicles then the ones used for the D-day invasion. LOLs

  • yeah, politicians know for their comedic aspirations and the need to constantly be critiqued for their style.

usually quite good, this one is a lost cause. idiot.

  • I swear, part of the 'O' in Flick Off is animated!

  • not sheryl too. There's muzack at my work.

"to be seen to be green" sums it all up

    triggin trama tweens...oh twit twitch...

    PEOPLE MATTER MOST

  • An Anglo Saxon injunction LOL!!! That is what I will say next time I hear some one use this word LOL!!!

  • From a distance, before I clicked on the video -- that looks like Fuck Off.

  • Agreed.

  • I've detected a theme in all of Rex's rants, including his drivel in the Globe and Mail, that suggest that he is simply jealous of celebrities. A good Catholic, he resents, like the 16 year old who never had a date, the jocks of the world, with their easy access to the sweet rewards of life. The space here does not allow a precise analysis but, consider this; Rex Murphy defends George Bush and has written at least 5 columns critical of Obama, who's tenure in office is less than 4 months.

  • typical liberal, have to make a personal attack on his appearance to compensate for your lack of logical reasoning. keep walking with the sheep.

  • FLICK OFF looks like FUCK OFF

  • it dose dosnt it, it wouldnt actualy take much just to make it say fuck off but i think the message alone should be quite clear......tell these enviromentalists to fuck off?? im sure lots of people have already but its too bad even rex murphy couldnt even get through to these people.

  • Thank you captain obvious!

  • You're welcome! =D

  • I guess it's supposed to. Go Flick yourself -- I think he's complaining about the forced hipness of the ON Minister, and the ignorant bad manners she has.

Cheryl Crowe must use toilet paper that's the thickness of Pampers diapers, if she uses one square. How moronic.

  • Even if my toilet paper was as thick as a diaper, I would still use about 100 sheets.

  • oh man, rex is a gem...brilliant absolutely brilliant! Ugly as sin, but brilliant

  • How come every time I watch Rex Murphy, he comes across so professorial. He no doubt causes dictionary sales to go through the roof.

    Try to sound human...

  • He sounds like an intelligent human. Would you like him to grunt and mime?

  • Clever guy, just discovered him.

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!

  • rex is the best

  • Comment removed

  • I can't believe Rex still works at the Communist Broadcasting Corporation. I'm sure they would have tossed him like they wanted to toss Grapes.

  • Comment removed

  • "Wow, this man is a horrible person."

Rex? He's not. John Baird is a horrible person.

  • Environmentalists are hypocrites. They use MORE oil and energy than everyone else.

  • i just see rex murphby simply as some cushy old fart.i realize that altering light bulb use could be seen some as trite and frivilous, but it is a start (allbeit a small start) and starts have to start somewhere.a small something end up being a significant something in the future.

  • TOMGREEN WASHERE

  • HI TOM GREEN !! GRTZ FROM ANGELTV . NL

  • For Rex, though if he heeds this, he's likely to be silent forever:

    people(dot)vanderbilt(dot)edu/~robert(dot)talisse/StrawMan_argumentation(dot)pdf

  • Right on Rex! Environmentalists are idiots funded by EXXON (Rockefeller)to drive the price of oil up. Meanwhile the atmosphere is carbon dioxide starved. CO2 levels has been 14times higher in the past bye nature alone. Now we are at the lowest amount ever. CO2 means plants which gives oxygen for animals to breathe and food to eat. Global warming fighters get off the fluoride and eat some fish and try to fix your brains.

  • Environmentalists are idiots funded by Exxon?? LOL...what have you been smoking??

  • Knowledge and not mind control mainstream media. Carbon Dioxide is a life giving gas. Exxon promotes global warming fraud, peak oil and that oil comes from dinosaurs. But you are going to believe it still when u starve and freeze to death. Do yourself a favor and turn the TV off and read and think.

  • @elucidative CO2 is not the only greenhouse gas in the atmosphere my friend, check the facts and share your thoughts again. Just a Methane itself is 26 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2...etc

  • @CTW520 I should know what a greenhouse gas is, I am a groundwater geologist. I know that the indoctrination that the media gives TV watchers is exaggerations and selective omissions of the truth. This catastrophic global warming is nothing but lies invented by the Club of Rome potheads like Carl Sagan's colleagues said and he was just another globalist conspiring to make a world government. Be skeptical of everything in the media promoting world government and with treaties even fake movies.

  • @elucidative You may be a groundwater geologist, but you talk like a paranoid schizophrenic off his meds.... Promoting world government. Would you prefer the current state of countless tiny fifedoms(countries) all arguing and at war, literally, religiously, or at the very least economically? The global internet will inevitably create a global economy, which will break down all the barriers that we choose to erect. Globalism, at least educationally and economically is inevitable. Grow a pair!

  • Good video

  • Brilliant

I am a PhD student of Chemistry.

He is talking logic here, nothing more than rational logic.

  • Making the assumption that the Environment Minister of Ontario meant for her campaign slogan to be read as "Fuck Off" rather than "Flick Off" is an example of idiocy more than logic. And how does your being a student of Chemistry demonstrate your ability to recognize logic?

  • SOMEONE meant for it to read as "Fuck off."

I mean, "Go flick yourself"? Jesus Christ.

  • god=generation organization destruction

  • True colours revealed.

May God help you find peace one day.

  • @shivakrishnarama : shivakrishnarama = stupidity on parade.

  • @eimb1999 You're a pansy. Go back to kissing guys.

  • So far, everything you've pegged me as is wrong. But that's OK, keep on making false assumptions from your self-righteous faculty-lounge world. It's quite entertaining to see you get progressively more frustrated.

  • JACK CAFFERTY AND ONLY JACK CAFFERTY would have the BALLS to call Donald Rumsfeld a war criminal, Chinese imports JUNK and their government GOONS AND THUGZ on one of America's most popular TV stations!!!!

  • I thought you said he was funny? That's psychosis, not humour.

  • I'm going to take that comment back Neil. What I would recommend you do is look up Jack Cafferty on youtube and you'll see why Rex Murphy is essential CBC'S version of CNN'S Jack Cafferty (essentialy Jack Cafferty on Barbituates). If after watching Cafferty you still think Rex Murphy is funny or even interesting I will have to split the difference with you and you can be upgraded to a 50% Goofball.

  • Cafferty is a bitter radical leftist misery. Rex has common sense. I've never seen Cafferty say something even remotely funny

  • What makes you say that??

  • I was born in 1972 and I love him.

  • The only conclusion I have for you Neil, is that:

#1 You don't have kids (if you do ask them to watch this and get their opinion)

    #2 You're a Goofball !!!

  • Rex should see this... Paul Watson '78 CBC

    watch?v=H_gTBDFTXE0

    Re: Seal hunt

  • Nuclear Power!!!

  • Listening to Al Gore is just an inconvenient waste of my time. And much unlike the planet that is NOT in peril, they are minutes that I will never get back

  • I never wanted to hear Rex Muprhy say "universal constipation."

  • who cares what a pissed-off old Canadian thinks anyway?

  • American Ignorance

  • It was a JOKE!!! Almost all of my family, save my generation, is Canadian

  • Grumpy Old Man says Words

  • Thank you Rex Murphy, oh thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for speaking out on this subject.

  • I just like the who idea of Go Flick yourself!

  • Yes, illiterates and ignoramuses just eat it up.

  • holy shit! it's sooooo obviously a big "U" not "LI" in the word "Flick", look at the font they used, etc! it looks soooo much like a big "U"!

AND the "O" in "Off" looks like a middle finger.

    LOL

  • Rex as our next PM!!!!

  • Rex Murphy for PM Jack Layton for minister of environment!

  • Nice clip and good commentary. Thanks for posting.

  • A very good read is Peter Huber's "Hard Green". Gives a good distinction between conservationalist and environmentalist. Also read his book "The Bottomless Well" to get a good perspective on energy use and availability.

  • Rex Murphy is my newest hero (who knew - a CBC employee with his own brain!?)

  • There is a difference between ripping ENVIRONMENTALISTS and ENVIRONMENTALISM. The environmentalists are a bunch of crazy assholes. Enviornmentalism, however, is a concerning, but not overly important, issue that has been blown out of proportion by said environmentalists. In short: we ARE fucking up the world, but not as much nor as quickly as Mr. Gore and Co. say. We SHOULD change our lifestyle, in small amounts, but not radically. It's not worth it.

  • Exactly! couldn't agree more, environmentalists are a bunch of con artists! and so far they have conned almost every one of us! i do agree, we do need to change but change will come naturally, however it will not come if it is forced down our throats. people are just getting annoyed, like you and me! anyway nice to meet some one who shares similar thoughts.

  • The problem with envronmentalists is that they care more about the earth then they do about their rights and liberties.

  • one reason not to torch your local CBC building...

  • Rex Murphy's job at the CBC is to give controversial viewpoints which are often contradictory to CBC standards, and he's paid well for it. To hate Rex Murphy is not to hate the CBC - rather, it's to hate Rex Murphy.

  • Go go Rex MURPHY!!!

  • just let the planet become uninhabitable. at least we can say we didn't risk being associated with any celebrities. that's the important thing. right?

  • Do you believe the planet is becoming uninhabitable? There's zero evidence to support that claim.

  • just because flakey politicians and celebrities live in fantasy, doesn't mean climate change isn't -reality-. i hate kitschy causes as much as the next reasonable person, but the reality is that those who know, believe it to be true... the vast majority of scientists from numerous countries. it's difficult to be cynical with that kind of evidence.

  • You still haven't shown me a shred of evidence to support the assertion that the planet is becoming uninhabitable. I live on this planet and it's perfectly habitable. Today it's 15 degrees celcius here in Toronto in August.

  • you're one of these smarmy internet semantics guys, and i can't win, right?

  • Game, set, match.

  • that really wasn't a compliment.

  • *puts out the flame war*

  • The vast majority of true scientists of relevance in the field do NOT have evidence of anthropomorphic climate change and thoroughly refute the foolish idea that manmade carbon dioxide could have any effect on the climate.

And 'climate change' relies on the asinine ideas of climate stasis(never in earths history) and the idea that everything was all hunky dory until these nasty little apes came along and proceeded to destroy the environment to no end.

  • Then gewehrmeister, can we store all the nuclear waste in the backyards of "the vast majority of true scientists? Perhaps all those mentioned -including yourself- will move to the unbreathable air of Beijing, Mexico City or LA...even if it has no effect on our hunky dory environment, why should those of us trying to do something about it suffer the bad air, water and earth?

    peace...

  • We have underground waste dumps for spent reactor fuel that cannot be processed to yield more fissile materials and the nonfissile byproducts of such processing. And I never said anything about turning earth into an ecological hellhole. Anthropomorphic global warming/cooling/climate change is not a demonstrated scientific phenomenon seeing as jupiter, venus, mars and every other planet and moon that we can measure has been seeing the same warming trend thus ruling out man.

  • good ol' rexy

  • Lol Rex Murphy is hilarious...

  • Hahahahahah, this guy is my hero! He is so funny!

  • I don't like it when pessimists pose as intellectuals. Being negative about what everyone else is doing doesn't make you smart!

And Sherly Crow doesn't F*cking stand for all environmentalist!!!!! There are stupid people all over the world!

  • Tell that to Socrates.

  • very very good. haha

  • Hey that Ontereo environmental ossifer is rather cute. I imagine she could screw my bulb pretty well...

  • bwahahaha I love his constant saracasm
