This is perpetuating the myth that Roman Catholic priesthood is superior to marriage in the eyes of the Church. It isn't, and that is not the Church's view.
Both are vocations that all Catholics must discern through prayer, spiritual advisors and the Sacraments. Great moms and dads who understand that their marriage is a ministry are just as needed as priests and religious vocations.
Thanks for your comment. Yes this is true. A&E chose this title to garner interest in the show. While the Roman Catholic Tradition is a celibate Priesthood, this is not true across the board. Another note worth making is that in the Sacrament of Christian Marriage, your relationship with your spouse is your Vocation, aka, your particular calling from God.
i don't mean my comment to be disrespectful because i do respect celibate priests, however, there is an ancient tradition in the Eastern Church (Orthodox and Catholic) where those who are married are also called to the priesthood. celibate priests in the Eastern Church are called 'hieromonks" and are essentially monastic, those that serve parishes/lay people are almost always married priests. i don't think lay people have to choose between only two paths in life- marriage or monastic celibacy.
From the clip, I think it's an interesting look. My friend is in discernment for the priesthood at 22 but is already married. He wants to be a priest in the Episcopal Church, which is in desperate need of orthodox priests as liberalism and other heresy runs rampant!
The Eastern Orthodox have married priests, celibacy wasn't mandatory in the West until 1139, but I believe it is a good idea so the clergy can devote themselves more fully to God and their flock.
I watched all of these- they are spectacular! Even for myself in discerning a religious vocation. O Mary queen of the clergy. Obtain for us a number of holy priests!
