  • Beautiful

  • It may be different in the states of India, but all of India culture is deeply rooted in one thing, although it may no longer be very aparent now...Hinduism. Indian dancing is an art form that tells the stories of the Gods of Hinduism. It has been carried down through the generations, and the dances represent different things. When done properly, having the experience of watching can take the viewer on a somewhat spiritual journey with the dancer.

  • Absolutely wonderful

  • I really enjoyed this dance clip. What a wonderful dancer. Here is a good example of what I have complained about on other sites. The background was plain and you can see every line of the body and even the smallest gestures and clarity of the mudra. Some backgrounds are so busy and gaudy and totally devour the dancer. Here you see the dancer and only the dancer.

  • Pity i cant rate, i would give you a 5 stars, great nritya and lovely abhinaya, would love to dance like you someday. :)

  • both dance and dancer are beautiful...

  • Nothing short of perfection. Simply put : in her every motion, in the silky flow of her arms, to the posied expressions of her face - she is very well practiced. To this gorgeous dancer, may Lord Nataraj bless you in this life and in all others. The dance was nothing short of breathtaking!

  • Lovely and adorable. Her eyes convey such mischief and sweetness. Her movements are amazing.

  • she is a great dancer. her teacher's choreography is fantastic. Medha hari does justice to the dances. if she stomps less while dancing she could rise to padma subramaniam's level.

  • This is so beautiful .

  • Lovely performance !!!

  • WONDERFUL DANCING !!!!!!

  • interesting but i think i prefer the bollywood versions.

  • What story does this go to? It would make MUCH more sense if I knew that.

  • I know every thing she does means something, but I wish I knew what it meant.

  • No doubt flamenco came from it

  • Awesome dancer. Just stunningly beautiful!

  • this is barthnatyam is beautiful and very very very good

  • She is a gracefull goddess !!

It is adorable the way she can make percusion with legs and feet, and still be quite and elegant to show her most lovely face expressions... I can not express because I am not an expert on this, but you dont need to study too much to feel the grace she has, the control of the body, and the sensibility through the dance!

Can anybody tell me something about her?

  • she has great expression

  • Bharathanatyam is my favorite dance. Just notice all the movements being formulated at the same time! True art! This form of dance should be teach in North America.

  • So cute!

  • Great!!!!!

  • creepy its like a puppet with strings

  • She is definitely maturing as a dancer ... she neither sacrifices abhinaya nor pure dance, both are perfectly executed. Her abhinaya is much more mature and skillfully performed.

  • hehee shes sooooo cute!!! bless!

  • i have a question. is this the tipical dance from india? so bollywood dance is a mix between this dance and arabic dance ? thanks, and this video is wonderful !

  • pistro20: It is one of the classical dance called Bharatanatyam. Bollywood is a mix of Indian classical and folk dances and little western dance.

  • typical? no, this seems more of a ceremonial dance or performance and entertainment(think hula, belly dancing, and those south east asian girls who dance weaving their hands with fancy nails). if you want bollywood dancing, look up bollywood dancing. a more typical indian dance, i don't think you'll find but in traditional indian videos. as in two people dancing together? there's a good example in the movie "bend it like beckham" during the wedding.

  • there is nothing like typical dance in India. There are many forms of dance. This is one form of classical dance in India. Bollywood dance is contemporary.

  • well in general (in eastern society especially) dance is derived from things depicted in nature . from birds to trees and daily movements of work like gathering and such. this is traditional dance meaning more of old style it goes back hundreds of years. and color is derived also from nature their lands are much more luscious and fertile and diverse than most western and northern regions

  • bollywood mix all kind os dance everywhere

  • bollywood is mix of all the dance from world. Salsa, break everything. this is Baratha natyam it dates thousands of year history.

  • Not really on both questions. There are 8 classical dances in India, 4 of them are from the South, and the other four are from the North. There may be similarities between them, but - each has its own execution and specific nuances that set them apart. Bollywood dance is more for audience titallation than the clasical dances which were religious in nature, or were court dances.

  • nope bollywood is mix all dances from all over the world.

  • This may be "A" typical dance from India, but there are so many different cultures within India, that you could probably come across several hundred to thousands of "typical" dances there.

I've seen Bollywood dancing take ideas from all over the world:)

  • This is considered classical Indian dance...what you see in bollywood are what is considered popular music going along with the current fad/fashion.

  • no this is south indian classical dance, Bollywood has elements of this, north indian classical dances like kathak and western dancing.

  • this is south indian classical dance. bollywood is based on north indian folk dance with influence from everywhere!

  • Pistro20, this is a classical form of Indian dance, Bharatanatyam. Bollywood dance is more contemporary and fuses elements of classical Bharat and Kathak dancing with elements of bellydance, hip-hop, latin and other dance forms.

  • This form of dance is 'Bharatnatyam' which means Dance of Bharat. It is the oldest form of dance in India. The others are Kathakali and Kathak. These forms tell a story or describe something through body and facial movements. The music being sung in the background is the story. What you see in Bollywood has whatever it takes to create something popular to reach the masses hence the use of Jazz+belly dancing forms+ Indian dance. But it is not the true Indian dance form.

  • LOL, how Indians spin their tale .. its Bharata Natyam not Bharat natyam

    Bha - bhava

    Ra - Raga

    Ta - Talam

Bharata combination the 3 elements - Bhava, raga n talam ,, nothing 2 do with Bharat (an insult to Bharata Muni) which was probably non existent @ the time of the advent of this dance form

  • there are 7 classical dances in india (this is one of them), plus lots of folk dances. Bollywood is a fusion dance that takes elements from classical, folk and modern dances (arabic dance, rap, etc).

  • There is no such thing as a typical Indian dance. Classical Indian dances have many schools and styles - each one being unique in its own way, and so is Bharatnatyam.

And NO!!! Bollywood dances have nothing even remotely connected with Bharatnatyam or any classical Indian danceform whatsoever!

  • is a mix of classical dance , and the dance of the rest of the world, (western, arabian, southamerican, etc) ^^

  • bollywood started with indian folk dance and now adds every move in the world to it. it's all good isnt it>

  • I would put it differently Arabic dance may have been derived from Indian dancing

    plus some African tribal.

Bollywood would be best described as probly60/70% Indian and rest mixture from all over( (I may be wrong ,then I am not Indian

  • To pistro20: This is a very old classical style of dance from India. Bollywood dancing is a whole different ball game with many elements, but sometimes takes inspiration from the old traditional styles. :) I love Medha's precision and I wish I had expression like hers...

  • Bollywood dance is a fusion between different Indian classical dances and non-Indian dance (usually Western) - not necessarily (and very rarely) Arabic dance.

  • This is more of Classical Indian Dancing that started in 400 BC and it's more traditional Indian/Hinduism (certain poses are struck in the dance because of Hindu mythological characters in stories). We have modern dancing as well in the Bollywood, but that's not related to Arabic dancing or anything unless you see particular movies based about the Middle East like the movie "Fiza" which has Arabic influence. But it really depends on what part of India the dance comes from, they're all different.

  • hey, there is no typical indian anything(thats what i think). this is traditional dance in south. in india each state is almost a diff country with diff food, diff infrastructure, diff kinda people, clothing, even lang. I can say almost everything changes.

  • Did you see Medha Hari's new videos after she left her former guru and joined Padma Subrahmaniam?

  • hi did u see it can u tell me where can i find the dvd becasue padma subrahmaniam is very differnt style of indian dancer i wonder how hari can creative new hindu dance

  • Did she join Padma Subhrahmaniam really? Padma's choreographies are stunning and with the extraordinary potential Medha has, she will really do justice to her style... but... will Padma encourage her in doing solo performances etc... travel abroad, propagate her style... This is another question...

  • gayest dance ive ever seen

  • no wonder you recognized it!!

  • Yo 636141 what your Religion??

If you Don't aBout Other Cultural Please Don't Comment..

    Thank you..

  • her dance is cute, its kinda repetitive since it goes w/ the song

  • I been told that this sort of dancing suppose to mean something. They go to like some school to learn this stuff. Like every move they do suppose to mean something therefore you see a lot of this repetitive movement.

  • i must have seen this video about 50 times

    but she is so good!

  • do u know who is her present guru? is it true th at she joined padma subrahmaniam?

  • Absolutely gorgeous. I was definitely in awe of her performance -- so much so that afterwards I read up on the Bharatanatyam.

    Beautiful dance.

  • Medha was lucky to study under Anita when the school was very small and every student got individual attention. My daughter was learning there for 4 years and was still in the adavus class, nobody corrected her (40 children in 1 class!), has not learnt any item. We just had to find a better guru.

  • the best culture and i cant wait to come to india to adopt 2 kids that im waiting for

  • I think I'm in love :) hehehe

  • yes, she is rather beautiful. and her dress just shows off more. it's pretty cool

  • Very beautiful

  • beautiful

  • the indian culture is very expressive in their dance, very spiritual people

  • simply beautiful....

  • they're hands are GORGEOUS!!!

i love indian dancing!!!! it's amazing and beautiful!

  • Can someone tell me the name of the song and the artist? This dancer is very poetic.

  • man she's perfect,i wonder how much and how long she had to practise 'till she became that good...wow

  • i know, me too!

she looks young so she's probably been at it since she was a toddler!

    :-O

  • love the colors and felxibility, but wouldnt that piece of fabric between your legs bug you if you had to wear it a long time? anyone who has worn one and danced in it please respond cuz i wanna know...

  • umm no not really....its just part of the pant like bottom...u realy dont notice it...=)

  • yea.......it would.....very much, esp since your dancing

  • Very nice

  • Superbe dance! Bravo!

  • All forms of dance speak without words, but in my honest opinion I think India perfected it ;).

  • I beg to differ.

  • Agreed.
