  • usuallly while tasting burfi it tastes sweet.. but here how about sugar??

  • @123carlo100 : The condensed milk provides the sweetness and replaces sugar in this recipe :)

  • 0:00 - no way im not showing u my curry ITS MINE! LOL

  • Do I need to add any sugar if Im making more than 4 cups of coconut? Or the sweetened coconut with the condensed milk should suffice?

Youtube didnt allow me to finish my comment

  • Hi,

I have some sweetened coconut and some regular frozen cocunut from the Indian store. They are shredded, but not fine powder.

    1. Can I roast both in some ghee, and then grind them to a fine powder after cooling down to get dessicated powder? Or grind the frozen coconut directly in the grinder?

    2. What about the sugar element? I have sweetened coconut (In the US baking aisles, thats the only coconut they had, when I didnt have access to an Indian store), and I have a can of condensed milk

  • Great recipe, I want to try it, but can you use (fresh/frozen) shredded coconut instead of the dehydrated coconut and 'dry' it in a pan on the stove? Thank you!

  • can't you roll them into balls and then let that set instead?

  • @spongebob2789 : Yes, you can but that would be laddoos and not burfis :)

  • @oksana170166 : Yes, dessicated Coconut :)

  • I remember the first time I ate this--they were so fancy and topped with gold. I thought, "was IS this??? cheesecake-white chocolate mix? my taste buds are so confused!" I ate so much I got sick afterward!

thanks for posting the recipe!! now I know what it actually is.

  • @caatherinejoy : But this time please don't over-eat :)

    Happy Cooking :)

  • Can i use coconut milk powder instead of coconut powder?

  • @LakshmiDevotee

No, you need actual coconut not coconut milk.

  • @ShowMeTheCurry I just made the coconut barfi, I added few drops of red food colour in to the condensed milk. It gave a beautiful pink colour to the dish. i love this recipe. thanks a lot.

  • HAI both of u I never tought it would be so easy thanks 4 the reciepe it was so delicious

  • can i use frozen coconut instead? please tell me.

  • @aparnak002

Since this is an instant version, you need the dry coconut coconut.

  • @ShowMeTheCurry :actually i did make it with frozen coconut since i had some in the freezer, and it was delicious!! just defrosted it and squeezed it till the water left. but thank you.

  • @aparnak002

    Wow! That's great to know.

  • Can I use coconut milk instead condensed milk? I am Vegan and do not use dairy.

  • @mfranck1 Not in this recipe. Condensed milk takes care of the milk, sugar and slow cooking aspect of the traditional coconut burfi. Coconut milk will only provide the moisture but when cooked for an extended time, it will release oils.

  • i love coconut!!

  • great video!

  • can i add coloring to the mixture?

  • @MizzKillerKizz : Yes, you can

  • where can i get condensed milk...Can I use coconut milk instead condensed milk.

  • @ashishtilakraj : Available in all grocery stores.

  • @ashishtilakraj ..IF UR IN INDIA.. U CAN EASILY GET UNDER THE BRAND NAMED nestle...else u can use mawa or khoya instead but then u need to add little extra sugar as condensed milk already has sugar in it

  • Should I use MEDIUM dessicated coconut?

  • @jawad384 : Unfortunately, it does not work well with the medium variety.

  • i can't believe i saw this 3 years ago... time is going so fast and you guys are doing so well... just look at you! : )

  • Hey

    Hello Hetal & Anuja,

This was nice and quick recipe..

    I have one query.

when I tried making that, After taking out of frizz it still looks soft, nt little hard as you guys made it.

    Any reason behind it?

What shd i do to make it little harder?

  • Hiya

Is your coconut powder same as desicated coconut?

Hope to hear from you soon.

  • @happytym8

Yes, it is unsweetened dessicated coconut.

  • what if I don't have sweetened condensed milk? Can I use regular milk and sugar instead? How do I make the milk thick??

  • @lildoc

This is a quick and easy recipe. You can use regular milk and sugar but the process is different and takes a lot longer.

  • Need to try it.................made Kulfi following your recipe came out awesome and delicious...thanks a lot:)

  • This looks really yummy! I like to try new things and one thing that would be helpful is if you stated at what setting you have your stovetop (ie: low heat, medium or high) as that makes a huge difference in cooking. Also, even if you gave an estimate of how long it takes to toast the coconut (say "about 2-3 minutes over medium heat" or "about 5 minutes over high heat", for example) that would help out tremendously. Thx! =)

  • @TheTravis224

Point noted. Thx. You can toast the coconut on medium to med low heat so it does not brown too fast.

  • Ur A Gd Help :P

  • how to prepare that grinded cocunut/kopra if i want to make it from fresh coconut

please tell me can i dry them in sunlight or what please tell me

  • I was watching your new video they are so different to these older ones

  • hii...did u use sweetened coconut pwd or the unsweetened...

    thnx 4 that delicious recipe....^_^

  • @msbandariya :unsweetened

  • @ShowMeTheCurry thnx...^_^

  • Thanx a lot for the receipe. Can I use freshly grated coconut flakes? If so, what is the measurement please?

  • @svattam66

This is an instant version of coconut burfi. If you use fresh coconut, you would need to cook it for longer and use regular milk.

  • but doesn't the ice cream crystalize - and then become to hard to eat? or is this something you eat the same say you make it?

  • @bourdie1979

This is not an ice cream recipe. It's best had at room temperature.

  • @ShowMeTheCurry whoops, i meant this comment for the Mango Ice Cream recipe....

  • Would flaked coconut work just as good as coconut powder? I can't find it in any of the stores in my town.

  • @BigSiIly

It will work but the texture will be somewhat different.

  • We tried to make this with too much water and browned the coconut. OOPS!

  • @mamekillburn: Oh no! There is no water used in

    the recipe...

    Better luck next time :)

  • i will try this this look really easy and yummy only thing is if i wana add color can i add in condense milk or with water?

  • We would suggest you add it to the condensed milk!

    Enjoy:)

  • Should I cover the plate in the fridge or leave it uncovered?

  • You can cover it with plastic wrap so that it does not dry out in the cold air.

  • Hi Ladies

I love coconut burfi bt can we use milk powder in place of condensed milk ?plz reply soon

  • Since this is a quick and easy recipe, you have to use the condensed milk. It will provide the milk, sugar and right amount of moisture.

  • i just tried this recipe..it's sooo good and really easy to make!! tastes kinda like those ferrero raffaelo truffles....:D

  • Thanks for your feedback. We are cooking for ourselves and our families not for a restaurant. Do you ever see any of the chefs on TV wearing gloves?

  • I will make this for my wife !!!

  • what a wonderful husband

  • thank you !!! i try to be.

  • thanks ladies my kids love this desert

we will try others recipes to

  • I could not imagine making coconut barfi would be that easy - it appears so anyways. Thank you.

  • An even easier way to go about this simple recipe is when after adding the condensed milk to the coconut powder, just mix altogether and make small balls out of the mixture - makes real nice coconut laddoos - plus don't have to wait for refrigeration & stuff. BTW, this recipe is not a real coconut barfi. Google for the real one.

  • Hi Anuja & Hetal...I Just got married & came to US 2 months back...so was trying to impress my husband by my cooking.I never cooked in India :) But after seeing your recipes I have learnt cooking. This is the simplest & the most tasty recipe I can ever think off. I love U for everything that you are doing for people like me. Coconut burfi is as sweet as you girls. Always keep smiling :) Take Care.

  • Thanks Rashmi for your kind words...and congratulations on your marriage!

  • This is the easiest recipe I've seen for coconut burfi so far. It was my favorite sweet while visiting India. I just made it this afternoon, although my coconut powder got a little brown, it turned out good.

Thank you for posting these videos and recipes. You've helped a girl who always hated to cook, want to learn and actually enjoy making something. Keep them coming! :)

  • Thank you and enjoy your Coconut Burfi!

    :)

  • My family and friends loved it! I took some to work and everyone kept asking me how I made it. I told them I got the recipe from youtube! ;) They wanted me to make another batch... Thank you, again! :D

  • Can I add corn?

  • Can honestly say, we've never heard of coconut burfi with corn :)

  • can we use the full cream milk instead of the condensed milk

  • This is an almost "instant" recipe so using milk will not only increase the cooking time, but will also lack the sweetness that condensed milk provides.

  • With full cream milk, there will be no taste to the barfi since there will be no sugar. The condensed milk adds the sweet factor to it.

  • Burfi looks nice. Can it be made in different flavors. If so, what are the various forms of flavors. I like to experiment. I would like to see chocolate, pistachios and mint Burfi. I wonder how would that turn out. Ummmmmmmmm I gotta love the Indian flavors.

  • This looks so good. An Indian version of Coconut Joy? The Hawaiians make a coconut jello sort of dessert called Haupia which my relatives make at luaus. It uses freshly ground coconut & takes hours to prepare. Plus it only lasts a day or 2 at most. Whew, this is so much easier.

  • i made it is so sweet i have to put whole sac of coconut into it

  • You two are great, very charming ladies, I've been learning a lot from you.

    Best Regards,

    William from Uruguay, South America

  • are there any fruits you would recommend to serve with this? would it compliment your mango icecream well?

  • This burfi tastes pretty good on it's own. It is pretty sweet so pairing it with fruit may make the fruit taste really sour. Bananas may work. The mango ice cream will taste a little less sweet combined with this burfi but if you're looking to tone down the sweetness, it could also work.

  • fantastic.. thx!

  • no sugar needed?

  • The condensed milk will take care of the sweetness.

  • Is it possible to use cinammon instead of cardamom? It's not easy to get cardamom in my city.

Thank you in advance! I enjoy your videos a lot!

  • Cardamom is an essential spice in many Indian desserts. Cinnamon will not give you the authentic flavor but may taste good anyway. Be careful while adding it in because it is very hard to mix powders into the coconut and it may just clump where ever it lands in the pot. You could also just leave the cardamom out and not replace it with anything.

  • HI, I just made these and they turned out really good! Instead of burfis, I made laddoos out of them and my food loving husband ate 4 AT ONCE!!! I took some pictures of them to share with you but dont know how to upload them here....

Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.

  • Hi! We'd love to see your picture of the coconut ladoos. You can upload them on the SMTC community. Please visit our website and join the community.

  • nice

  • I love your videos! I can't wait to try this one with my daughter, she is 7 and I am trying to find easy recipes for us to make together for our cooking lessons! Thank you!

  • yummy thank you! love that awkward moment at 2:59 lol

  • lloooooolll !??!?! I love those moments,,, ah so many of them lost in time forever...

  • Good call! That was incredible!

  • i think this is some good sweet dish but not a burfi

  • I will try this tomorrow. Is looks easy to make and must impress my mother in law.

I recently got married and have not really cooked before. With full time job, I luv quick recipes which is not too time consuming and also easy to make as I am a total newbie.

So thank you for this great recipe and I hope you carry on showing your amazing talent especially with the main course. thanks again.

  • Okay ... I've tried this twice now. The first time I used shredded coconut and it didn't seem to absorb the milk. When it cooled, it was very mushy. The second time, I went to an Indian grocer and the lady told me 'coconut powder' is the same as coconut milk powder. Again, it was so mushy I couldn't even attempt to cool it. I can't find a 14 oz can of condensed milk either ... I have to use 1.5 cans (I'm in canada so one can is 300 mL ... a little over a cup). HELP!

  • Here in the US (in Indian grocery stores) shredded coconut is available in two varieties - a coarse shred and a fine shred (coconut powder). We use the fine shred variety. The coconut is dessicated, not coconut milk powder. Probably 1.5 cans (450 ml) might be too much for 4 cups of coconut - try using 1 and 1/3rd cans of condensed milk. Good luck!

  • I saw dessicated coconut in the same store ... I'll make attempt number 3 tomorrow. Thank you.

  • It worked!! Thanks so much. FYI, if you ever have other Canadian inquiries, I used medium coconut and shred it further with the food processor. I used a 300 mL can of condensed milk that worked perfectly. I also dipped some of them in chocolate afterwards!! Perfection!

  • ooohhh chocolate...YUM! Thanks for the tip.

  • thank you so much for this recipe.. I will try this recipe soon.. my husband just love the coconut burby..yummmm

  • yummmmmmm

  • Hi...The easy receipe compelled me to try it. The burfi was awesome..Thanks!

  • Can we use freshly grated coconut instead of coconut powder?

  • The traditional coconut burfi recipes (where the ingredients are cooked for a long time) call for fresh coconut, so you could definitely use it. For this recipe, however, there is no significant cooking time. We imagine that the shelf life of the burfi would be greatly reduced.

  • Thanks so much both of you for all your hard work and wonderful methods, especially quick ways to cook amazingly. The old long winded cooking days are over. This is esp. good for bust working people like myself. I love all your dishes. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more of your shows!

  • What I really wonder is...where's the sugar??

  • In the condensed milk

  • that's what I thought actually... Actually Indian sweets are too sweet sometimes forme. Have to try this...

  • thank you so much we tried it and it was deliciouse hmm yummy

  • If you are looking for authentic indian coconut burfi search for recipes that don't use condensed milk and dry coconut flakes and that don't refrigerate the burfis. This video is a totally non-indian short-cut way of making burfi. The original version requires fresh coconut, sugar and ghee (clarified butter) and a bit of cooking experience to get the mixture to the right consistency and form.

  • I love this simple and quick recipe. Not everyone has the time or the experience to cook in an authentic way. As long as it tastes good-- I have made this one and it tastes great!

  • Fantastic - thank you for sharing this.

  • really looks good...i'd like to try it for iftar insha'Allah. My q is...where should i put the burfi>>at the top of the fridge/freezer side or downside?

  • Put the burfi on the bottom for about an hour. If you don't have that much time, you could place it in the freezer for just a shorter time...don't leave it in too long because it will be hard to cut.

  • Ok..thanks a lot!!!!

  • Thanks for the recipe guys! I wanted to know what is the shelf life of coconut barfi unrefrigderated? I was planning on taking some to my mom whose in Chicago and I am in LA. So the barfi would be at room temperature for a day possibly.

  • It would definitely be fine for a day outside the refrigerator at room temperature. In case you are flying, take it in your carry on instead of checking it in.

  • Here is another thought...you could probably freeze the burfi before transporting it so that it remains cold for a longer time.

  • I tried this recipie and......the result was super.....my whole family loved it.......

  • I made a little change, used half of condensed milk and half of coconut cream, to avoid it to be too sweet and it turned out very well. Also added character to it roasting the coconut until some of it turned golden. Thank your guiding me!

  • So delicious! I will try it

  • This is not the way of preparing coconut burfi...:)

  • There are countless number of ways to prepare any dish. We would love for you to submit your recipe on ShowMeTheCurry dot com - Thank you!

  • Then how do YOU prepare it? This looks good.

  • This was a great recipe! Keep up the good work.
