the true reason why germany is like this, is because of its rich medival history, if your stupid you wouldnt know about holy rome. holy rome was a medival empire that took up much of the german lands and in alot of sense can be called medival germany. thats why there is castles in german dummkopf ;)
@Agent1W Knighthood became more a title than a profession really, it’s a Roman tradition, where the higher classes would own their own armour and horse. During the Middle Ages knighthood (the title) was rewarded to certain people with good economy and social standing.
Odd that knights were big warriors, religious people, and socialites all at the same time. But of all three, their main focus is on fighting. Always getting deployed, and if not deployed, always training.
I am not sure if Deutsche Welle realizes, but there are plenty of so called "Rennaisance Fairs" here in the US, where you can play knight just as well.
@Floesser1970 I don`t know why someone gave you thumbs down for that comment. It`s completely true. We have many well organized Medieval and Rennaisance fairs here in the US too; some much larger and more historically correct than others. The only important difference is we don`t have real castles like Germany. But you don`t need a real castle just to role play as a medieval character for a week.
I like authentic medieval fairs because it really gives you that feeling...not that people want to suffer the medieval style. It is more of a vacation from the modern world. The reenactors camp near the castle for up to 2 weeks, all with medieval tents, equipment and clothing..only the bathroom is modern
They totally left out the viking reenactors though..it is not just about knighthood, many reenact a different culture and time frame. But anything passt 1500 is not popular...in the States it seems to be more about Renaissance and Civil war..many of the renaissance fairs are not that accurate. ^^
@DieSushiBitch Renaissance fairs can become innacurate when attendants come dressed for the wrong time period. It`s not the organizers` fault.
But we do have Medieval fairs too. My history professor has two medieval swords made for him by a professional swordsmith and they are both quite realistic to the artifacts they`re based on. He also has some chainmail armor. His favorite time period is the time of the first crusade.
