  • bluerayplayer ps3=bluerayplayer you have got from sony?

  • Why bother buying a blu-ray player especialy Sony just buy PS3.

  • The Sony BDP-S350 was a great player, sometimes I which that Bluraymods still sold regionfreee S350s. I have to replace my broken S350 with a BDP-S480 or S380 regionfree player.

  • did you have to buy a power step down transformer

  • There is 1500+ student in my school and we have one Piii computer.

  • The menu system hasn’t changed much since 2008. I brought my BDP-S550 last year December 2010. It was easy to set took me a few minutes including the new firmware update. Some US tiles or regionFree is what I look for now and then is good enough I can wait for a regionB to be released I’m not in rush for the format as must titles are rubbish for picture and sound.

  • Well my BDP-S550 does Dolby TrueHD and dtsHD master audio not that I care for dts on bluray I’m not a fan of it! I’m a fan of Dolby and fan of dts on laserdisc now then! Reason why not fan of dts on bluray is because we the consumer have now gotten a raw deal because we should be getting both sound formats in English. Its all dtshdma now! I only buy a select few. I try to look for DolbyTrueHD or Dolby with PCM6channel.

  • you really should be using hdmi to get the best results.

  • Blu-Ray is cool. I think it might be a while before it replaces DVD. VHS took almost 35 years to fully replace DVD.

  • Will it work okay without an update?

  • do u need a usb to update when using internet cord updates ???? pls write back thank u !!!!

  • hello:), i dnt own a tv because i dnt watch tv, BUT i do have a HD ready 1080p computor monitor, i connect my xbox 360 and computer to it, the only problum is for som reason it dosnt have a hdmi socket/port, so basicaly what im wondering is, is it possable to connect a blu ray player to my monitor????!!!!?????

  • @SwanSong2156 Yeah, buy a HDMI-DVI adapter.

  • @Mwongozi thank you so much man:)

  • @SwanSong2156 if you want, you can buy a DVI to HDMI converter

  • @SwanSong2156

why not just buy a blu ray rom drive for your pc, they're cheap now, like $50

  • @jupiterscastle yes but u would also need a compatable cpu, and a really good graphics card

  • I love blu ray players. I've had the panasonic dmp bd35 as my first stand alone blu ray player. My first blu ray player was the phat PS3 which i sold and bought the 120GB slim PS3. I now own 2 PS3 slims with 120Gig HDD and a 3D Blu Ray player from samsung model BD-C6900 I can't wait 'till my PS3 slim gets the 3D firmware update too for 3D movie playback. Please no comments about why i have 2 PS3 slims and a stand alone blu ray player. I'm just a gaming and home theatre fan. Nice video...

  • can i connect this to a tube tv

  • can i connect this to a tube tv

  • My grandma got one of these and I was really suprised. She still had a B&W televison.

  • i'm having problems with my blu ray player!!

i have the exact same model and make but it wont read any of the discs i put in!?! every disc(blu ray and regular dvds) i put in it says " No disc"?!?! i updated the firmware but it didnt do anything.

Can you help me out PLEASE!!!

  • @gainesvillehigh09 HAHAHA I hope it dosnt work forver

  • oh did i mention i got 3 of the hp touch smart 300 pc's to easy try it

  • what's the deal with theese people taping their blue ray un-boxing adventure's it not a big of a deal this past month i had like 40 of these jus get a home boy who'se down get a shopping cart from walmart put like six on each cart n run out the fire exit n sell them on ebay for $100 bucks each

  • If only it was that easy.....

  • but how do u go on youtube i have the same version as him but where do i go to be on youtube plz help!!!!

  • I'm interested in buying the Panasonic DMP BD60 and was wondering if it is a good player. I know it doesn't have wi fi, and I know it takes longer to load than other ones. But from the reviews I have read, they say these things, but it has some of the BEST quality picture of Blu Ray, and that's all I'm interested in. So, is this a good player? If not, what is the best player I can get for $200 or under? Thanks!

  • Try to get the updated BD80 if possible!

  • lol, thanks but I actually bought a Sony BD player last night. It shipped out today! So I'll have it Monday, but the HDMI cable I bought probably won't ship UNTIL Monday. lol, but I'm happy anyway. Thanks again!

  • @NoiseismyDomain The best blu ray player if you have a budget of 300$ is definitely the PS3 it is already announced that it will be 3D ready. If you don't have 300$ then u should go for the Panasonic DMP BD35 / 60 or 80. The BD35 is discountinued but u should be able to get one under 150$ the BD60 should cost about 175$ and the BD80 for 225$ If i were you i would go for the PS3 (phat) with 40GB hdd you can get one for 200$ 2nd hand. The best option = PS3 slim for 300$ Good luck !!!

  • Awesome mate! Loving the little exclamations, makes it exciting! England 4 Life!

  • 0:32= FATAL MISTAKE!

Never cut objects towards yourself, always away from yourself to prevent serious injury.

Lol, sorry, I take from my dad.

ANYWAY. Thanks for the review, now I'm sure on what to buy. Vizio can go to hell.

  • why?,mine works perfectly,great quality also

  • Trust me, I bought a Sony Blu Ray player, and it is a million times better than the Vizio one.

  • oh sorry,i thought you were talking about the vizio tvs,my ps3 does the job perfectly btw

  • Yeah, My Dad says the Same thing. I learned the hard way though. :P

  • are these compatible with dvds?

  • Yes i have this excact player & it play's all of my dvd's perfectly but any Blu-Ray will play your dvd's

  • no the magnavox one cant.

  • Really i didnt no that i thought they all played Dvd's

  • I am looking for a Blu-ray/DVD player-recorder combo, does any company make those?

  • Since its promoting HD video you wud think it comes with a HDMI cable

  • they do just got one at smas club for 125

  • say that again, so this guy us viewing at 480i only?

  • I use my PS3 as my Blu-ray player...But it gets annoying, so I was thinking of getting a blu-ray player....Is there any difference between Blu-ray players ? I always thought they were all the same.

  • I still think the PS3 is the best blu-ray player available - buy the blu-ray remote and you'll be set.

  • Yeah I guess I should do that. Thanks :)

  • a bluray player player in kuwait is about 700 usd , while ps3 is about 350 usd now , yep id rather to payonly 350 to get 1- video game 2- internet 3- bluray

  • @Zahinn I would recommend a Sony Blu-Ray player because they invented Blu-Ray.

  • Mwongozi, i read that this player does not play the DTS HD new sound format? is that true?

  • It doesn't decode DTS Master Audio, but it can output it to a separate decoder, if you have one.

  • wats the point on gettin region a wen europe is region b eeerrrrmmmm..... yeagh cant watch ur blue ray dvds now can u

  • This was filmed in the USA.

  • Mwongozi how do u compare this player to the BDP S360?

  • I don't know anything about the S360 I'm afraid, but the S350 has been out for a while now, so the 360 is probably better.

  • i dont like Sony anymore, i really really really like Philips stuff.. !!!

  • Win a Sony Blu ray home theatre system

    metalheadnationrecordsdot

  • For qualitywise items that seem to last much longer than their limited warranties, they are : sharp, panasonic/technics, sylvania, toshiba, samsung (earlier versions) and some others

  • Except for the ps3, Sony is complete crap, most of the stuff i've bought from Sony which includes big screen tvs and other consumer electronics they only seem to last up until their damn limited warranty then they go kaput, if it says 90 day warranty, it will probably last about a year if your lucky. Even the ps3 goes dead after 2 years.

  • [citation needed]

  • your opinion. Sony's products have lasted me years. My ps3 is a launch 60 gig and still lives. My sony ericsson phone lasted me 4 years. My fault it broke. i accidentally put it in the dryer. I have a sony lcd tv and i have had it 3 years so far and it lives too. You have bad luck is all. or you don't treat your products right.

  • As far as S-Video which I am slowly straying away from. There are Individual Audiophilists that do still have S-Video Connection inputs & outputs. That's the main reason why for rebuttal comment.

You're are right about the USB being embedded too far deep instead of being flushed with the connector's back panel!

Mwongozi, watch for the Pirates who love to steal movies from the Ethernet Connection even though it is solely meant for Software Updates Only!!!!

    Nine9eniN

  • What the hell are you talking about? The USB socket is in a hole to make room for the flash drive - and you can't download movies through the ethernet port!

  • can you view videos on to this via flash drive and what fomats?

  • No.

  • Sorry but how the hell do you update a software from a player?

  • Did you watch the video? The software ("firmware") is stored on the player. You plug the player into your network and tell it to upgrade itself. That's all.

  • Help please! I want to know if blu ray players play international dvd's. I just bought an Italian dvd and it won't play on my dvd player so I was wondering if it will play it if I buy a blu ray player? Although it did play on my computer!

  • dont buy blu ray it works at a lower pixels than HD dvd player

  • HD dvd is dead . they both ate 1920x1080

  • Hey, you got a point, but they both are pretty much the same, just one has 20 gbs added to it so it's pretty much the same deal.

  • you are FAIL.

  • you need to find a reigon free player. try to play it on your pc. you can change the reigon code on a pc 5 times by clicking on the drive on my compter then go into properties

  • can this be set up on an old television??

  • who the hell would buy a blu-ray player and use composite cables seems like a usless thing to package

  • because sony is too cheap to package a hdmi cable. I guess also because not everyone has a HDTV (which I dont know why they would get a blu ray player anyways)

  • Because blu ray kicks the shit out of DVD in PQ up and down even on a CRT TV through S-video or composite. I saw Independance day on a 1080P set in the store and then the dvd and the Blu ray ate it alive, I then saw it on an insignia CRT through composite (both discs) and the BD still ate the DVD alive.

  • @xSTR8xUPx Say you get one for Christmas or something, and you don't have an HD TV, you would want to use composite or S-Video.

  • plz anybody can help me.. i want to kno if i can watch YOUTUBE on it if i connect to internet? thx

  • No, you can't.

  • One of the best Blu-ray players out there!

  • i have to get one of those.

  • What? No it doesn't. It tops out at 1080p just like every other blu-ray player.

  • HDMI carries audio, correct?

  • It does.

  • lol select connect setup and PLAY!

  • i like that part too :)

  • i got mine today never going back to normal dvd

  • looks alot like the ps3 xmb odd

  • Sony use the XMB accross a multiude of products.

  • They're pretty much all wired.

  • oh and by the way, it doesnt come with an hdmi chord?

  • It doesn't.

  • lol,, when i unboxed my home theatre that comes with an hd dvd,, the remote control is a monster,, its like 2 feet,, haha

  • "Composite cables for fools." LOL. Agreed. I cant understand why they even include them with a Blu-Ray player. They must just need to get rid of them.

  • Is it possible to connect that with a 5.1 home theater system? Becoz I realize they don't have a black and red speaker wire output. Thanks!

  • Yes, it has digital audio out.

  • u use optical now.

  • I bought this last week, good quality for ca. 225 USD incl.

2 movies in the sony box !

  • do you gotta setup your internet connection onto the blu-ray player?. Like the Wii?.

  • It's not wireless, you just connect an ethernet cable.

Incidentally - "do you gotta"? Really? Try English next time, it helps people understand you.

  • osamaFXX you so right wtf is his problem XD i feel like hes is going to freak out on it eny minutes ... lol

  • its like ps3

  • Why his angry ???? relax dude it is just a piece of electronic

  • I have an Imac 24" with mac OSX 10.5.6, is it possible to WATCH blu ray/HD-movies on it, if I buy an external blu ray player? answers would been greatly appreciated.

  • No, it's not. There is no blu-ray player software for OS X yet.

You can use data discs, but not video discs.

  • Your Blu-ray Player can only go up to 1080i ?

  • Without a HDMI cable...yes

  • what about 1080p ?

  • sony's signature GUI menu, simple yet amazing

  • Yes, i prefer sony too.

Especially the 350 or the 500.

I had the bdp300, but it takes about 2 minutes before the movie plays.

The 350 is ready in 6 seconds and is now at the same price the 300 costs me a year ago.

  • I went with a PS3 for Blu-Ray.

Since then the stand alone units have really improved so I am going to buy one soon.

  • heh, it uses the XMB? Awesome! Thought Sony only used that in PS3 and PSP systems

  • And all their Bravia TVs.

  • I use my PS3 for blu ray movies personally, awesome unboxing though!

  • nice unboxing, i just got one yesterday ^^

  • i knew thats what happened, u have to change to HDMI in ur tv ^^

  • Um, thanks, but I'm not that stupid.

  • Nice review. Thanks.

  • Yeah i have a xbox 360 but im starting to think sony is alot better and offers alot better things

  • Well I think you should keep your 360 and just buy a blu ray player.

  • why do that? it's better value to buy a PS3 compared to a normal blu ray player

  • you spend more money than you would want to, want to think again?

  • you should of got a ps3 thats a blu-ray player

  • what is the difference between all the sony blu ray players

  • I have a panasonic DMP BD35 which is a better stand alone blu ray player than this sony.

  • Hey, i bought this one for about two days ago.. I plugged it in the tv with a HDMI cable. I got one problem and i cant figure it out! when i watch a movie, and just browse the main menu, the black colors isn't right! U now that black area on top and bottom when u watch a movie. Its kinda greyish, if you catch my drift. How can i turn this black again, so the color scheme will be right again?

  • Sounds like your TV settings need adjusting to me.

  • you got a good blu-ray player man.

  • Thanks for that great video. I really enjoyed how you went through the setup menu instead of merely unboxing it which isn't really helpful. Great Job!

  • awesome review....wall e looks good on it

  • Nice unboxing video and i like the commentary. Good one on the "composite cable for fools" :D

I just bought the S550 version of this player and looking forward to unboxing it myself.

  • composite cable for fools pmsl... good one

  • its a shame that it doesnt do dts hd master audio other wise i would of bought this player

  • it has DTS HD Master Audio bitstream out .

  • I own the BDP-S350, it's a fantastic player that decodes TrueHD right out of the box.

  • How much did this BD player cost? maybe u could've bought the ps3 for the same price...

  • I already have a PS3. The blu-ray player was a gift.

  • does this player come with a hdmi cable?

  • It does not.

  • Great review, nicely done!

  • Cheers man, i can know what to expect now.

    composite cable... "for fools" lol

  • if i purchase this player and just wanted to watch blu movie and doesn't really care about bd live, do i still need download firmware? Thanks...Somchine13

  • Well you should, as it may fix other issues with particular discs - but you don't technically need to. You can get the firmware update on a disc if you don't have internet access.

  • Thanks.

  • Blu ray is like when Dvd players first came out, in like 10-15 yrs everyone will have Blu ray.

  • My clock is still blinking on my VCR

  • I would say more likely 5-10 years everyone will have Blu Ray because 10-15 sounds ridiculous too far.

  • What's the purpose of the USB port at the back? could it play movie files?

  • I should have mentioned this in the video. Blu-ray discs that support "BD Live" require some storage space to save downloaded files to. You have to insert a blank USB memory disk into the EXT slot in order to enable this feature.

  • but could it play regular .mpg or .avi files in a USB thumb drive?

  • No.

  • Very helpful vid. thanks.

I notice you opted for 720p. My tv does 720p & 1080i - which would you go for?

And is it worth shelling out for a a full HD 1080p tv, or is the quality perfectly acceptable?

  • It depends on the native resolution of your TV. If it's literally 1280x720 then 720p will look better - but if your TV has 768 lines (as many do) then 1080i might (might!) look better. It's easy enough to try both - just pick whichever you prefer.

If your TV is at least 40" (and you don't sit miles away from it) then 1080p will look noticeably nicer. If your TV is smaller - don't bother.

  • sweet

  • man always cut from your hand, not to your hand. one day you will lose some fingers

  • NICE! thats my fav blu ray player out of all the blu ray's

  • get a hdmi cable, it will defeat the whole purpose of playing hd- movies with componet cables. get a dollar hdmi cable.

  • I mention HDMI several times in the video.

  • Also: Don't confuse component and composite. Component is entirely capable of carrying HD video. Composite is not.
