It's not supposed to match the original, there will never be a group like The Band again, covers are supposed to be different and distinct from the original, Weezer nails it, in my opinion (of course).
Thanks for posting this great old classic. The sheet music for the piano part for The Band's "The Weight" - which was played by Garth Hudson - can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
Of course it doesn't feel like the original. nothing ever does. But this is an awesome cover. Gotta admit it's really well done. Just with the distorted guitar sounded a little less... "obnoxious"
Weezer has a way of pulling you into their songs. Once again they knock one out of the park by doing a great rendition of the Band's "The weight". I think The Band would be pleased with this cover.
This is way better than Panic at the disco's version. It's much more humble, the Panic at the disco's version is just too much, this version is almost like the original.
If you ever get the chance you need to hear Ellen and the Escapades cover version of "The Weight" its the only version I've ever heard that's actually better than the original. Honestly check them out and you'll see how talented they are.
@OpakeArawra2 : That may be your opinion, but I don't really care what you think as it seems you only comment on videos to have arguments. But if you had either common sense or if you appreciate music on any sort of level, then you would see that what Panic! have accomplished at such a young age is phenomenal. Btw I'm sorry I had to clogg this page up with part of an argument to anyone else using youtube just to listen to music and not write abuse to a load of strangers!
Panic! At the Disco's version is much better and they differ it everytime they play it. This version is very middle of the road, trying to be rock. I highly recommend Panic!'s version at Abbey Road, and the Aol session.
@McKegger420 Nah, I believe this is a song everyone should cover. In my opinion, this is a very experimental song. A lot can be done to it, and it'll still sound good.
Pretty nice, but too...clean? Weezer is fun, though. And they plainly get it. They just are too wholesome in their sound for The Band's tunes. Nice use of distortion, though.
Surprisingly I was quite pleased with this cover, obviously it's not as good as The Band's version. However this is modern rock and if The Band was transported 30-40 years into the future maybe this is what they would have sounded like? This needs the harmonies though...
@MetalSpice If you ever get the chance you need to hear Ellen and the Escapades cover version of "The Weight" its the only version I've ever heard that's actually better than the original. Honestly check them out and you'll see how talented they are.
@hollowbodyguitar check out earlier weezer, stuff like "say it aint so" and "we are all on drugs". Its a lot better than their later stuff when they turned all poppy and not too great imo.
so had anyone here heard/have the NEW weezer cd? i liked the one that has this song, but not as much as their other albums. so i was wondering...is the new one any good?

thats a shame, but not really a surprise i guess. it seems like they put the most effort into only a few songs and leave the rest as filler/"decent" songs. but at least overall they've made their share of cool and good songs.
seems to be getting that way with each album they put out. but then again i love metallica (and even st. anger...unlike some "fans" i am a fan of the BAND and respect their right to progress an change), so i will probly buy it at some point. i just wasn't sure how good of an album it would be, so your input definitely helps. =) thanks!
Though they aren't Levon, Rick, and Richard, I think this cover is a good version compared to others I've heard. And in this day and age, I think it still can sound attractive to a young generation while still being respectful to the classic version.
oh and btw, if you want to see a good version of this song, check out a clip of it from the last waltz.
Oh crap, you're right snaxlrod - Rivers doesn't sing lead until the "Crazy Chester..." verse. I didn't realize Scott had such a good voice...I've sort of fallen off on Weezer for a few years.
i like the original the best, but i defenitly can respect this cover its pretty good, and the panic one is a good cover too as much as i dislike them i think u should give credit where credit is due
Definitely like Panic at the Disco's version of this the best.
