The underwater shots do not do justice. In real life they're decent firecrackers. Set it off under a small concrete bridge and you'll feel the whole thing lift slightly. Toss it next to the bridge and you'll feel quite a vibration followed by methane/sulphur dioxide bubbles released from the mud in the area. Oddly it attracts alligators instead of scaring them off. Definitely much better with flash powder than black powder/pyrodex.
Nope, the infamous cratermaker, a co2 cartridge full of some combustible powder. Quite dangerous, because of their metal casing. They throw shrapnel quite often. I'd guess they're full of BP.
I also suggest cardboard tubes, but filling a CO2 cartridge with BP or FP would almost never cause any shrapnel. The gases from LEs do not move fast enough to fragment the shell, and just rupture it. In extreme cases, though, the shell could be weaker in one area, as well as have small pockets of weak areas around it. This could cause shrapnel, but again, very very unlikely

whered you get a fuse sensitive rocket motor? Estes is only thing commonly available, and they suck because you got to use electricity to fire them.
