my dad was a crew chief at altus from 79 to 90 working on 141s. we went to the scott afb show for the first time in 07 and saw the c-17. i will never forget watching the "assault landing", and how my dad was ready to start cussing when he saw. "That's about ridiculous! You can't do that with a big plane!"

@ibetrolintomuch No, they have to because if they would do0 a normal approach in a warzone they are very likely to be shot down by enemy anti-air.

The short stop is usefull when they need to land on short makeshift runways and when they need to unload cargo/troops very quickly.
