Gasquet at his very best, amazing! Too bad he plays like that so rarely... The SF againt Nadal is maybe even more impressive even though he lost. I still hope that one day he will play like that on a regular basis and become a top 5 player because he can be so impressive it's scary.

@misterlonely1446 He's a cool guy, but inconsistent. Chokes matches away too. He should have beaten Murray at Wimby 2008 and this year's FO. Massive chokes.
I remember watching this and thinking that Gasquet had the tools to win the tournament if he had enough gas left and become one of the elite players in tennis. (Challenging seriously for slams) He had a close one with Nadal, one he could've won if a few points went his way but he's been very inconsistent, hasn't improved his footwork, fitness, serve and forehand much at all. 24 mid next year so he's still got time, but the clock is ticking fast.
Recently his fitness and serve have gotten better, and you can tell he's working on the forehand, he's not so much inconsistent anymore it's just his short forehands that kill him.
I would have run that last backhand down and hit a volley winner!!! LOL!! Just kidding of course!! A shot of a lifetime on match point!! Amazing shot!!!! Against Fed on match point, to hit that shot??? As good as it gets!!
This kid goes for his shots in the moments of death!! Thats one good asset of his it seems. He did exactly the same thing when he was cramping against Hewitt at the 2006 US Open. He went for the shots. Goes for broke. Fearless.
Gasquet beat Federer this year in the same round of the same tournament lol

@Ignozi he chokes too often but last FO was not the case, or at less it was a physical choke (he played 11 matches in 12 days just before)

One of the 5 losses in 2005 for Federer... But really, what a winner to end the match...pure talent!
NickStriker 1 year ago 4
@NickStriker In fact Federer lost JUST 4 matches that year. Safin in AO. Gasquet in MC. Nadal in RG. and Nalbandian at Masters Cup.
MattyOyola21 1 year ago

Gasquet is an outstanding player, more talented than the other good French guys like Tsonga or Simon but is he hungry enough to come back?
Or does a professional spot in the top 50/60 suffice to him and his ego. At this level, it is all about extraordinary efforts...
I hope he is hungry because he does put on a show...

thats bullshit alpha, hes underrated if anything. and no other good french players? monfils? tsonga? simon?

Well just have to wait and see what happens.
CheesePeow 2 years ago
You're obviously making a judgement from watching him play in Syndney which is completely pointless, he's always done reasonably well in IS events.
Maybe make reactions to slams and masters 1000's rather than having kneejerk reactions over one tournament where you can't even tell any different.
His serve this week in Sydney was below par, even for him.

What was Roger thinking when he hit that ball on match point to Gasquet's backhand??? What a great shot by Gasquet!!!
