  • No ben, NO!

  • this suddenly appeared on bbc1 in 1985 for some reason, made in late 60s wasnt it ?. traveling around on those weird fan boats lol. they must have drugged that bear up surely ?.

  • Not many people know this, but the theme song has words, and Clint Howard sang them in one episode. The title is 'I Am The Way I Am'.

  • Brings back memories Thankyou

  • Clint Howard IS Ron Howards brother. Clint appeared a couple of times as Benji in the Andy Griffith Show and also in one episode of the Classic Batman show and even in an episode of Star Trek, 'The Corbonite Maneuver'.

  • I used to watch this show. For some reason, I remember one episode in particular: where Ben gets into some food samples...

  • Clint was a weird looking kid, who grew to be weirder looking man...

  • i hate to think what suffering that bear had gone through to walk on its back legs like that. humans do unthinkable amounts of abuse and suffering to bears.

  • I think Clint is ron howards brother

  • @Mandrake474 He is, indeed.

  • @Mandrake474 he is

  • @Mandrake474 Rance Howard, who's also in Gentle Ben as Mr Boomhaur *sp, is Clint and Rons dad!

  • What was the dirtiest show in TV history? UN-gentle Ben!

  • Clint hwoard when he grew up. he became one ugly ass man. I mean if you dont beleive me, look at his icecream man movie poster. he look , ugly and crazy.

  • @veeseee128 ya, but he is worth millions unlike you. fool.

  • @veeseee128 That's the kind of ugly I wish I was! You see, there's ugly, and then there's PIMPIN' ugly where the guy, for no discernible reason, is a babe magnet. Howard is the latter.

  • @QuartuvLarry LOL

  • my fave show loved the bear so sweet

  • gentle my ass

  • disclaimer.all bears are heavily shackled and sadated at all times.in the unlikely event that bears mauled child to death all bears would be destroyed.

  • i always wanted the bear to rip the little boy's head right off... but then i never get what i want :P

  • This was the first time anyone had seen those fan boats.. Also they never did air the final episode where the bear goes ballistic and kills the kid and his father. Pretty nasty stuff!

  • That bear in the front of the boat would make a great air bag!

  • Bart Starr was in one episode.

  • I used to love this show. Got the Gentle Ben game for Christmas in 1967. I opened it up and couldn't wait to play. Only problem was that the factory had screwed up and there were only pieces for the Barbie game in the box. : (

  • This is the first show I ever remember watching. I must have been 2 or 3 yrs old

  • it is cool

  • Does anyone have this on dvd?..the show?

  • The series aired for two seasons on CBS' Sunday night schedule [right after "LASSIE", and just before "THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW"] at 7:30pm(et) from 1967 through 1969.

  • BEEEEEN BEEEEEN

  • O.o

I read this book growing up. I had no idea it had been a tv show. I'm disturbed by this! Not only by the concept of it being a TV show, but by the alterations to the story.

  • Clint Howard was never a looker...

  • OMG I remember watching this in the eighties, I wish they'd put it back on tv again or better still put it on DVD

  • I second that.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Yep, I watched it in the 80s too, in Africa. There was the episode Ben faught a wrestling match with a person...lol

  • Oh, Ben!

I forgot this co-starred Dennis Weaver who went on to play McCloud.

  • Comment removed

  • @squeapler Lest you forget, he played Chester Goode on Gunsmoke.

  • bennn!!! bennn!!!

  • I watched this too. Wonder what happened to Gentle Ben....I hope kids didn't think bears were gentle after watching this.

  • Many children were eaten after parents brought home Black and Grizzly bears for them to play with..I'm not making it up either.

  • They repeated this in the UK during the 1980s; for me and my friends Ben was defo the king of domesticated wild animals involved in morality tales and the prevention of petty crime. That Dolphin asswipe Flipper just didn't cut it!

  • Nicely put.

  • I agree. Flipper was very selfish. He never left the beach for anything...stupid dolphin...

  • @JesusCommando that was the first time anyone in the uk had heard of air boats

  • @JesusCommando Yes remember watching this at the same time in the UK. Great times. And prefer a bear than a dolphin anytime

  • Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnn!

  • Gracias, gratos recuerdos.

    Qué será de ella.

  • At 0:20

"This...is Tronya. I hope you relish it...as much as I!"

  • Loved this show. Dennis Weaver is the man!

  • One of my earliest memories of televison as a kid (having been born in Nov. '62).

  • Used to watch this every Sunday 6.00 pm at Slade Point Mackay Queensland in 1968!

A week end treat before returning to school the next day.

  • omg i use to watch this when i was little lol

  • how could the howard family function? you had clint here filming in miami, ronnie in hollywood doing andy show.

  • Class!

  • I loved this when I was so small. Never thought I would see it again. ( from Sri Lanka)

  • Beautiful!!!
