many companys do that. i know for a fact that FORD has done that with some of there pickups. i know a guy who worked there for 15 some years and he has told me storys about how they put soda cans in places where customers cant see it just so they bring it back in and can charge them money. General Motors suffers in customer service and after sales support. That is what is killing them. They think they are so big that they don't need to take care of individual customers. If you want proof, have a look at my videos. I am in a warranty battle with them and customer service does not even listen to my concerns. I have been a GM fan for decades but now I have seen their true colours.
I used to own a 96 Caprice, but the tranny broke and it would cost me more than the cars worth. So I bought an 03 Town Car with 200,000 miles and it's still going strong at 289,000.
Why would I buy a car with 200,000 miles? Well, it was a big Body on Frame RWD car, and it had everything a luxury car should have. Also it cost me $4000 and it drives on gas and propane.
Never considering buying another car except the Lincoln Town Car. Since, you know, till this day its the same as it always was.
Just for the record... my dad bought a 93 silverado, and it still runs today, same engine, transmission, and pretty much everything else except a few small things. That doesn't matter to anyone though, because most people these days are stuck in the mind set that Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are better quality. Thats pretty damn sad that we can't even support an American company that employs millions of our own citizens over a Japanese one that employs just a fraction of Americans.

When I last checked Consumer Reports listed used car reliability ratings (on the US market) with Acura (Honda) on top, then Infinity (Nissan), then the rest of the Japanese, then European, then American, with Cadillac on the very bottom. Interestingly, there was no overlap. But don't shoot the messenger; check for yourself.

Can't link. It was out of Consumer Reports, and it was some years ago. The models need to have been out for some time to collect data, but I don't know how long. You would have to check with CR. If they have reliability ratings on their site, current or otherwise, you need a separate subscription. Sorry.

You're doing a lot of guessing. When you get to college you'll learn the value of credible and valid sources of information and the dangers of wishful thinking. GM's reliability rating is well documented, and it's quantifiably poor. Very poor. See Consumer Reports.
I just checked the recalls with the NHTSA. The Aveo had 1 recall. The Escalade of the same year, which I chose at random for comparison, has 4. The Aztec, also chosen at random, also had 4. Cavalier had 2. And that's all I checked.
i guess your right, but im going by what i have seen and know, gm also has many more cars than any company, so they are bound to have recalls, toyota just recently had over half a million recalls for an issue, and a few years back honda had almost half a million recalls on accord and civic for airbag deployment issues. i dont belive gm has ever had that many recalls sinse the late 90's fire hazard suspection.

Also, consider that the recall items in particular may well be third-party components/subsystems, which the automaker itself did not manufacture. I would be surprised if the automakers engineered their own airbags, for instance. The black boxes in commercial aircraft, to give a parallel, are made by L3 Communications, not Boeing or Airbus etc. So while the automaker is responsible for its choice of vendors, repair rankings are probably a better indicator of overall quality than recalls.

If producer "A" provides a greater value, (greater quality and/or a lower price), than Producer "B" he is rewarded through an increase in his customer base. I just finished a review of the Ford fusion vs all the other mid size cars. Well it kicked ass, the Malibu was last. Oddly,to the left of the article were tonnes of ads for GM none for Ford. Why would you waste money advertising in a magazine that says your product is the WORST option... many companys do that. i know for a fact that FORD has done that with some of there pickups. i know a guy who worked there for 15 some years and he has told me storys about how they put soda cans in places where customers cant see it just so they bring it back in and can charge them money. GM has some weak spots in some of there models but Ford has weak spots too. All company's do. Its how those company's handle there weak spots is what makes them a good company.

Every company has their problems but so far 18 cases have been reported but millions of vehicles have been recalled for alert purposes. If you understood what was going on and what the main purpose behind the bailout was and who now runs those companys you would understand what i say. chrystler has always been crap forsaking the customer for profit, gm has made both good vehciles and crap vehciles but now it is time to see who is now running them (politicians) and the main world order.

Sorry to get into the conversation, but nothing is wrong with that, it's great that you support GM and Chrysler, but Chrysler is NOT paying back the 7 billion dollars they STOLE from the tax payers. Look it up on CNN, the article is entitled "Chrysler won't repay federal bailout 'loans' " GM is paying us back though, but you should take into consideration the fact that stockholders also lost a lot of money investing in these companies since they went bankrupt.

another point I'd like to make is that the government has it all wrong when they talk about "creating jobs" they just can't see the forest through the trees I never started my company to create jobs, I did it to make a profit, but as a result of that I've hired workers, and I thus compensate them for their labor, by the way it's my jobs not theirs, what they have that I need is ability, and time, as long as they understand this I have we have a great business relationship.

If you want proof, have a look at my videos. I am in a warranty battle with them and customer service does not even listen to my concerns. I used to own a 96 Caprice, but the tranny broke and it would cost me more than the cars worth. So I bought an 03 Town Car with 200,000 miles and it's still going strong at 289,000.
Why would I buy a car with 200,000 miles? Well, it was a big Body on Frame RWD car, and it had everything a luxury car should have. Also it cost me $4000 and it drives on gas and propane.
Never considering buying another car except the Lincoln Town Car. Since, you know, till this day its the same as it always was.

Just for the record... my dad bought a 93 silverado, and it still runs today, same engine, transmission, and pretty much everything else except a few small things. That doesn't matter to anyone though, because most people these days are stuck in the mind set that Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are better quality. Thats pretty damn sad that we can't even support an American company that employs millions of our own citizens over a Japanese one that employs just a fraction of Americans.

It's not the mindset. It's statistics. When I last checked Consumer Reports listed used car reliability ratings (on the US market) with Acura (Honda) on top, then Infinity (Nissan), then the rest of the Japanese, then European, then American, with Cadillac on the very bottom. Interestingly, there was no overlap. But don't shoot the messenger; check for yourself.

Can't link. It was out of Consumer Reports, and it was some years ago. The models need to have been out for some time to collect data, but I don't know how long. You would have to check with CR. If they have reliability ratings on their site, current or otherwise, you need a separate subscription. Sorry.

i can take a guess, but cars are totally different, and gm wasn't to smart to have the car made there, the cars aren't safe and they have many recalls, they certainly don;t live up to the quality of the rest of gm's cars.

You're doing a lot of guessing. When you get to college you'll learn the value of credible and valid sources of information and the dangers of wishful thinking. GM's reliability rating is well documented, and it's quantifiably poor. Very poor. See Consumer Reports.
I just checked the recalls with the NHTSA. The Aveo had 1 recall. The Escalade of the same year, which I chose at random for comparison, has 4. The Aztec, also chosen at random, also had 4. Cavalier had 2. And that's all I checked.

i guess your right, but im going by what i have seen and know, gm also has many more cars than any company, so they are bound to have recalls, toyota just recently had over half a million recalls for an issue, and a few years back honda had almost half a million recalls on accord and civic for airbag deployment issues. i dont belive gm has ever had that many recalls sinse the late 90's fire hazard suspection.

Also, consider that the recall items in particular may well be third-party components/subsystems, which the automaker itself did not manufacture. I would be surprised if the automakers engineered their own airbags, for instance. The black boxes in commercial aircraft, to give a parallel, are made by L3 Communications, not Boeing or Airbus etc. So while the automaker is responsible for its choice of vendors, repair rankings are probably a better indicator of overall quality than recalls.

It's not up to the consumer to support uncompetitive producers. If producer "A" provides a greater value, (greater quality and/or a lower price), than Producer "B" he is rewarded through an increase in his customer base. Producer "B" is penalized through a decrease. This competition creates the incentive to produce goods and services for the greatest value. Rather than saying, "Buy American." we should be saying "Produce value that consumers will buy."

I just finished a review of the Ford fusion vs all the other mid size cars. Well it kicked ass, the Malibu was last. Oddly,to the left of the article were tonnes of ads for GM none for Ford. Why would you waste money advertising in a magazine that says your product is the WORST option... DUH To bad the malibu was 5 years too late cuz it is kinda pretty... and Chevy seems to be proud of it seeing how it has more labels on it than a pair of designer jeans from K mart.
