Those are actually both 3-way switches. The lever switch lets you choose between the the neck and bridge pickups. The toggle can add the middle pickup when in the middle position. When in the up position, only the middle pickup is used.

I already changed to a different wiring where I'm able to split pickups as well.

Well, for your standard Fender tremolos, you might have to make changes to the body of the guitar like I did. However, the Gotoh Floyd Roses are designed to fit flat on a Fender body. You won't be able to pull up then though. You'll have to do routing on the body to do that. It's up to you if that's worth it.

If you only use your trem for vibrato, I don't think you need a floyd.

For the humbuckers: it depends on what kind of pickup routing your guitar has. Some guitars with 3 single coils still have a HSH routing, so you can just put humbuckers in the neck and bridge by just replacing/modifying the pickguard. A floyd rose uses different posts so you'll have to drill new holes, and you might have to make the bridge routing bigger.

Well, this was a MIM Strat with 3 singles as well, and it had a HSS routing I guess. But I think that depends on when it was made. You could just try to unscrew the pickguard and take a look underneath it.

Those are some pretty cool ideas!! Experimenting with different wirings is a lot of fun. Installing a Floyd Rose can be a really tough job though. I'll send you a PM with a site you should take a look at ;-)

hey, did you do all the modding yourself? im getting some new pickups on my strat next month, a dimarzio paf pro and 2 vintage noiseless for the neck and middle. id love to get a floyd rose on there aswell but its seems it might be hard work. how did you get on with yours?

ive heard also you can only bend down when using a floyd rose on a strat or did you route it out and underneath to bend the other way? cheers martin

I pretty much did it all. My dad helped with some drilling and routing. You definately need to know some things about guitars to install a floyd rose by yourself.

When you route the wood under the floyd rose deep enough, you can use the floyd for both lowering and raising the pitch. That's what I did.

Thanks. I don't really prefer one of those 2 guitars. The olympic is more strat-sounding. Really good for styles like blues. The black strat is better for rock and metal, with the humbucker and the floyd rose. But it's still really versatile because of the pickup switching options. And I can get some good bluesy tones from the dimarzio cruiser (neck pickup). I used guitar rig 4 to get the tone for this video. I didn't use any additional overdrive.

Well, actually I'm going to a guitar shop tomorrow, and I amp planning to try out some Fender amps. And I'll use the Am. Dlx Strat. So I will let you know how it sounds. But in my opinion you need a Stratocaster with singlecoils for that blues sound. And I really like the deluxe strat for that kind of purpose.
