  • Has anyone actually found the original 70s intro and soundtrack? None of them on here 'seem' right, or how I remember it. I've been obsessed with it ever since. :)

  • I remember when TV used to show classic horror movies on a Friday or Saturday night, stuff like Tales from the Crypt, From Beyond the Grave, The Abominable Dr.Phibes, Dracula A.D.1972, Witchfinder General, etc.

  • Amazing how many of us were mentally scarred/delighted by the 70's intro. I'd love to see it here, so I could play it before my own "Appointment With Fear" (every Friday night a 70's horror video goes on). Of course, it would have to be preceded by the end titles of the ITV news at 10 too. (Yes, I'm that sad).

  • Any news!

  • Hi everyone who likes this, and looooves the 70's original....

I have just got a reply back from YTV, saying the bit of footage may have been archived at the BFI in London. Called them, they say it was actually made at YTV Leeds. Called them, they said some of their stuff ended up ITV Anglia...So I called them, and a nice guy Robin Neary, is looking on our behalf...I'm not really holding my breath, but hey; You never know eh? So cross those fingers, and I'll let you know when/if I get a reply.

  • I Remember the opening sequence of appointment with fear with the castle on a hill with lightning above it this was a simple but effective intro.

  • i used to stay up as a toddler in the 70s watch appointment with fear and spend the rest ov the night pooing myself ..oh greatdays better than horrors nowadays, can still hum theme tune

  • somebody pleese get the 70s version of appointment with fear

  • The 70's one was definitely in the YorkshireTV area because I remember having to run and hide behind the settee before 'The Vampire Lovers'. That was the beginning of my love affair with the Horror genre.

  • @TelboyD Interesting phrase "Love affair with the Horror genre"...Especially after mentioning Vampire Lovers.

Are you still in Yorkshire man?

    Regards,

    John, Doncaster

  • @jmjmartin

Yep, sure am,. Mexborough. Still a fan of vintage Horror. Got around 5k films, a large portion of which are horror. I used to have a Saturday job (in 1981, when I was 13) working in Mexborough's 'Home Video Library' (the first and, for a long time, the biggest in the North). When the 84 Video Recording Act came in I got my pick of the 'nasties'. Threw all my VHS tapes away on a whim a few years back only to find out a couple of months ago that they were worth a bomb! Doh!

  • @TelboyD Hi Man,

Not gonna believe this, but I'm just over the crossings in Denaby Main (But please don't hold that against me, I'm an ok guy!!!).

    Massive horror/ vintage horror fan.

Bummer about the tapes man too...I rented Atari vcs games from you guys in early 80's. (wow, where has the time gone?)

I've got a bunch of very early horror from 1929 up to mordern jap stuff.

Hope we can say hi one day over a pint or few.

    BEST, John

  • @jmjmartin Ah yes the famous crossings. Im in Wombwell. Would love to see 70's Appointment with fear titles again.

  • I'm also looking for the original intro! moondayglo, I'm with you, I think the intro scarred me for life LOL!

  • What was the 70s version like? On my local itv station, Tyne Tees, we didnt have `Appointment with Fear', we had `The Friday Night Film'. Every week at 11.05 a horror film was shown. I missed most of them as i was only a kid, and not allowed to stop up, but i saw `frankenstein must be Destroyed' in 1975, and i remember a similar title sequence to this.

  • it used to be on fridays, and was well scary pal...

  • didnt it used to come on saturdays about ten!. those face changing images used to scare the shit out of me i realy couldnt watch it.and hidin behind the settee till it went off.then jumpin on my dad who is it tonight the wearwolf frankinstein or dracula?.GOOD TIMES YOU BET.thanks for posting.

  • Friday night at 10.30.

  • wow cool. anyone got the 70s version? that used to scare the shit outa me when i was a kid. it was often more scary than the film.

  • agree with moon someone must have the 70s version

  • your right moondayglo somebody must have the 1970s version of appointment with fear so scarey

  • Agreed - Come on someone, post the original 70s version and give me nightmares

  • loved seeing this. ATV (in the 70's) had a lot of late night horror film seasons (fridays) ie THE CREATURE FEATURE, A DATE WITH THE DEVIL, THE ATV HORROR PICTURE HOUSE etc and all had their own creepy intros like this. it was superb and it set things up nicley. it made those film seasons really special. thanks for posting.

  • Horror Express...Yes, superb! That thing regenerating creeped me out as a kid. Not seen it for years though.

Abominable Snowman is a very intelligent look at the legend whilst cashing in on the recent public interest about Tibet and MT Everest. I picked a copy up on ebay for a few quid.

  • I have just discovered Hammer's 'The Abominable Snowman'. Have you seen it?

  • Do you have the original tv series theme from the 70s? this opening is terrible.

  • Sorry, this is all I have. Someone somwhere must have it though, if that person is reading this...

  • ...Now my theory bit, The new film is right up against the old fave' and 30 odd years of fond memories of it, plus countless viewings. Then here comes the 'pretender to the throne' trying to steal your heart in one-fell-swoop!!! It'll never happen! Thanks for reading Alan. You are still reading right?

  • Hi Alann, I too loved the original opening, but I have a theory which may help.

My example is the remake of 'Charlie & Chocolate Factory' starring Johnny Depp.

I loved the Original (1971 Gene Wilder)but eagerly awaited the new one. Guess what? I thought crap compared to the original!

  • Excellent...Thanks for posting that!

The 70's version used to scare the crap outta me before the film started.

  • You and me both...(:-o

  • Do you remember the horror double bill they ran on BBC 2? I always used to look forward to the colour Film (Normally a Hammer) they put on second. Now-a-days I love the older b/w movies. Whats your fave'?

    Regards...JM

  • In a word - Quatermass!

  • Excellent word!!!

I never saw the tv serials, but I have loved the movies for years. The Quatermass Experiment chilled me as a kid, and then Quatermass & the pit; Well, the sequence when they unearth the ship was the best anticipation ever for me...(What are they gonna' find inside??? My gaaawd I couldn't stand it!) Then the payoff was so intelligently handled. Unlike the big-budget cgi crap we have today. My V.fave modern?? monster movie is 'The Thing 1982'

  • i remember those too! 'Dracula, Frankenstein and friends' was a double bill season on BBC2 in 1977. normally a universal film followed by a colour hammer movie. they had several of these seasons over the years 'Monster double bill' & 'Horror double bill' they were called. saturday nights aint been the same without em. i have the full listings of what was shown and when. cheers

    ATV midlands

ps check my other comment on this board re ATV horror film seasons too :o)

  • @ATVmidlands5581 Can you get the listing to me please??

  • @abbcgei

    Hi

give me a couple of days and ill dig em out for you. I have them all from 1976 to the last double bill in 1983.

    cheers
