a g3 processor CAN run OS10, i'd highly recommend a G4 at least, though. they should've made the iMac to look more like the original Macintosh haha

i just got an 3rd Gen iMac with a touch screen. PowerPC processor 400 MHz, 256 mb ram, and 20 gigs of storage.

its a piece of shit, i know. its not my primary computer - my 17 in MBP on leopard is.

i was wondering, could i run an old verson of the mac OS like 6 or 7 on this computer? whats the most advanced OS i could run?

Get the mini vMac emulator like the author of this video to emulate system 6 or 7.. The iMac G3 can run from aprox. OS 8.6 to 10.4 (with upgrades).

Mini Vmac has become it's spiritual successor. And, as an added bonus, it has support for the classic Mac OS! In fact, the latest version will even run on a 68000 Mac in system 6.0.8! (not that anybody would want to do that...)
