The most damaging attack in axe mode is actually the upwards chop, not the downwards one.

With the first Switch Axe you get, the upwards chop kills Jaggis in one hit whereas it takes 2 to kill them with any other attack.

dude, you forgot to mention that you can immediatly enter sword mode with your weapon put away: hold the dash button while standing still for a moment then press the kick button, I looks like the "mortal draw" that link uses in The Legend of Zelda Twilight princess. also like the mortal draw, its powerful!!!!!

@TheMusiclover272 You find them in bone piles in the water of the Deserted Island, do the quest in which you need to find Blood Stones so more bone piles appear, I got 4 Jumbo Pearls out of one run. ;) Though the weapon you're trying to forge isn't this one, it can be upgraded into it though. I just upgraded mine today. :D

@PlacidDirge If I recall correctly you can get it offline but after a couple of quests, might be around 3 star quests. You can get it immediately when playing online though, and what you get online is also available to you offline.

personally i found it's better to use switch axe classic control 2, which when you pull up the right stick repetitively, it will perform a consistant combo without consuming the stamina.

actually the s-a is one of the easiest weapons to figure out and chain attacks in. i hold forward if i dont want to do the rapid slices, OR i press x and a after the uppercut if im not holding forward and it chains into a overhead.

Good cataloguing of the axe mode attacks, could maybe use a little more depth on the sword mode. I've been trying to pick this weapon type up, and the sword mode has continued to baffle me a bit (probably because I expect it to handle more like a greatsword than it actually does). Would go into more detail about a few things I've found that I think bear mentioning, but youtube comment limits cut me short when I tried to type it up. (Can you tell I don't comment on youtube very often?)

@VonCrown The Sword mode is pretty straightforward (fortunately or not).

The vertical slices do more damage than horizontal slices. Holding forward will cause you to lunge forward every other swing. You can transition quickly into axe mode out of the back swinging sword swipe. You can accelerate the elemental burst by holding forward.

I could pretty much copy and paste your comment because I have the same "issue"; I find myself mostly sticking to axe mode and barely using the sword. I like that the sword mode has greater speed and feels like something out of Devil May Cry with all the energy crackles, but I find it very difficult to use.

I got better with the Great Sword using guides and I haven't found a good Switch Axe guide that covers the standard control scheme as well, but I have picked up a few good tips.

You get the Switch Axe after you do 2 urgent quests. Go to Captain A-something (i forget his name, but he is a guy that trades between realms. He has a black cape on) Go up to him and ask him to go to the Hunters Realm. Do a couple quests, it takes a couple days and when you see him back in town go to the forger guy and he will now be able to forge the Switch Axe.

You probably already found your answer by now, but since I had the same issue myself I thought that I might as well help you out: Flooded Forest areas 2, 4 and 7 (I believe). You want the bug spots (net). Do an easy quest there and wear the leather armour set for greater chance of getting more resources and less chance of your nets breaking.

In listening to your podcast episode discussing weapons, I feel inclined to disagree somewhat with how you described it in comparison to the likes of the LS and GS. Not to say that you're simply incorrect, but rather that the comparisons you made are really more situational in terms of effectiveness. Regardless of the LS' spirit combo, it's still a move that's potentially more dependant on an enemy's position and state than the GS with landing a proper blow, and that the evade slash itself is...

In my experience, I find the SA's sword mode to keep me much safer when attacking and allow a higher number of hits and more direct hits in the positions that are just as effective as other positions with the LS against the same monster due more in part to the SA's sheer focus on keepin consistent with the offense in eithermode, as well as how quickly you can recouperate

As for the upward slash, the SA's is simply less consequential than the GS'; it has the same potential hindrances on party members, but when you have none, there's simply no excusing, to me, for ignoring it in comparison to the GS', which has proven to me to be one of the less useful non-charge attacks in its moveset. Then there's simply it's greater mobility in Axe mode, while the draw attackisnt

I have no defense for the SA's figure-8 chop attack though. That move is just worthless for me, especially with the attack it follows after when in a group.

My only complaint is that axe mode is really restricted to the slowish overhead chop and up-swing for really powerful moves, and that sword mode seems underpowered for all of the drawbacks: Limited duration, slow mobility, etc. I'm sure it's fine, it just _feels_ like it should be stronger. Of course, I'm sure it's perfectly balanced!

@phlippside123 unfortunately, you have to wait to advance in the game quite a long ways, to get advanced armor sets that have the awaken skill, idk if u can gem it in, so yeah, look at the wiki monster hunter site and goto monster hunter 3, then armor sets, and look for ones that have something like awaken as a skill, hope i helped!
