  • PS CS5 and cant find "two sided" option anywhere Andrew :(

  • David Cross is that you? But seriously, could please reupload in higher def?

  • your voice sounds familiar to me... like the voice of andrew kramer a good teacher too... but his specialty is adobe after effects. :)

  • im using cs5.. and well i can't find the 'two sided values' button/option to turn it off.. i have been looking for like 3hours, nothing on google, nothing in the photoshop help options.. im pulling my hair out here x_x someone help me *sobs*

  • @riekoe35 I have cs5 and its still there. I totally promise dawg

  • @riekoe35 finally found it! maybe u already did xD, go to the 3D menu on photoshop cs5 under "render settings" and just select "remove backfaces" from the face style menu :)

  • Your tutorial is superb! Is it better to texture 3D object using Photoshop or the 3d program itself liked maya and blender using UV mapping and unfolding it to avoid distortion. Thank you and please replied.

  • This is exactly what I was looking for, but since it's recorded in 360p, it's worthless.

  • can u do a tutorial on how to get the uv layout properly pls

  • in listening to ur vid playing as i typed i got my answer - uv created before texturing - jesus - start over again - ps - did u create uv's in maya? cheers

  • hi - great video - have small problem - after importing head to PS and completing all the texture (merging etc) i saved out the finished head as object and the texture file as a targa. Problem is when i go back to maya i just cant get the texture(targa) file to go back on the head correctly. - should i have made a uv map before i started - please help !!! - (im a beginner so kinda need step by step help here - thanks a million man)

  • Hi, I just want to say thank you for this tutorial, it has helped me out with my current unit at uni, which involves producing realistic skin texture. Keep it up :)

  • Hi, first of all a nice tutorial :)

I'd like to ask one thing which is about what document size to use. With a large document size my comp seems to slow down quite a bit when rotating around the object and other camera actions. That's to be expected I guess, but I am unsure about what impact the document size has on the actual texture when painting it in photoshop? You talk about using the screen resolution for document size, but my pc is quite sluggish with this even though its quite new.

  • no meu photoshop cs4 não tem a opção 3D....como eu faço para usa-la e acha-la no meu photoshop, me ajudem por favor

  • ey bro, thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial!! i unwrapped the uv for my model, i "relaxed" it too much in maya, so i was stuck trying to texture the head part, but then your tutorial was THE ANSWER to my problem. thanks again ;)

  • so which mean we don't have to open UV anymore by using this method?

  • lol why you choose a stoner for your model pic

  • When i wanna paint on something it's so laggy

  • Hey slorp I'm currently painting a model in PS but the texture on it is blurry, would you know why that is? I exported a OBJ with a texture already on it (I am seam painting) but in photoshop the texture is blurry and in Maya it isn't. The actual painted stuff done in PS transfers blurry from photoshop to Maya, so it's not just looking blurry in PS.

  • dear sir, l would like to ask a problem about texturing the head! actually l come from hong kong, and my final year project is about a animation, and when l follow your movie of Texturing a head using Photoshop CS4's 3d tools, l encounter a problem!! after l press ctrl E, some texture is not work on the 3D model!! may l have your email to send what l encounter!? please becuase it is quite serious problem to me=( thank you very much!! sorry of my poor english! regards, Kenneth Tang
  • A huge THANKYOU for posting these vids and letting us learn from you, Ill be trying this out later, hope you keep these up! Very clearly explained xx

  • hi i have managed to texture onto my 3d obj and have successfully mapped the uvs. However when i load into CS4 there are random holes in my model that arent there when im in maya or when i was using unfold 3d (to unwrap uvs) i dont understand why this is happening but it keeps happening and i have reloaded the obj file in 2 or 3 times now. Please help!!"!!!!

  • Every time i import the obj file. It keeps the uv map i had already created on top of the model in Photoshop. If i paint on the model. The Uv map still stays as a top layer and the paint goes under it. Is there a way to prevent the UV map lines from showing up. Is there something i'm missing while exporting or importing?

  • User error here. You are most likely hooknig up your UVsnapshot as texture while exporting from Maya. Either disconnect it from the shader, or go into your obj export options and uncheck the "materials" box which will not export the .mtl file. Alternately, delete the .mtl after exporting and before importing into PS

  • Thank You Very Much for making this video

    !

  • Were the hair tufts modeled individually with polys or did you use some kind of generator? I'm new to 3D modeling and I'm making a character right now. I wasn't sure how to do the hair without using the hair tool.

  • I tried both two-sided checked and un-checked, but my texture still go through the back of my model's ear, what am I doing wrong?

  • maybe you have a hole in the model...

  • My model's ears had no hole, they were polygon extruded from the head and mod into shape of ears. The surface is sort of flat, and I thought it would be perfect for texturing.

  • really helpful thanks for posting!

  • hey there i have a prob with the obj import .

im working on max and when i export the mesh then import it in PS all i can see is a blank sceen ??!!

    please help

  • Im sorry, im a maya user not a max user. My guess, make the PS background blank (the checkers) instead of white. Maybe its getting imported with an all white texture? Im sorry I dont have more.

  • @mohdmistry hey i knwo the sollution i ahd the same problem but go to 3d andclick on render settings then hit normals then ur model will pop out and if that doesnt work try clicking solid or mask or the other thigns udner the render settings

  • :O Thanks A Lot Bro

  • OMG u use 2 monitors [random]

    great vid thatnks

  • In what format you save the selected face to import into photoshop (the uvys) ?

  • the answer is at 1:16 in the video.

    Actually listen next text time

  • That's kind of rude you know.

They might not have good hearing, good speakers, YouTube or their computer muted. Your probably going to respond with something rude or one of your friends will for you.

    i dosnt care liek!!!!!one!!!111eleven!!!!!! lolz

  • I am a college instructor who creates these videos for my own students (but others are always welcome). If I am going to be asked a question, then those who ask, become my students, and I will subject to the same rules I have in class.

If a student in my class ask me to repeat myself when they haven't paid attention, I tell them to check their notes instead. And if someone comes into my classroom and calls me rude, I would ask them to leave.

  • And if I was asked to leave, I would tell you to wise up, repeat it slowly this time so I don't miss it. Honestly and truly, how do you know that the problem is related to them not paying attention? How do you know that their video didn't lag and stutter past that part?

If you are going to type all of that then you may aswell type something useful to them. This isn't a classroom, its YouTube.

  • Thank you. I've been curious how to take advantage of the cs4 3d aspects for my texturing. By the way, i respect your outlook on the 'rude' situation. Thanks again for the great tutorial.

  • Thank you. Your tutorial is great and helped me out in my Maya class. Our teacher did the crop tool and clone one to map the texture on the maya model

  • how did you got that mode?

  • where you did learn that english?

  • lmfao

  • The same place you learned grammar!

  • Puj: So, no higher quality vid. I made these a quick recordings for my students (and the world) and just didn't bother to export high quality as well.

Raz: Agreed, Zapplink just went the way of the dodo. Thanks for the compliments.

  • well thanks then.. the video has been very helpfull.. hope to see more of tutorial from u.

  • u have a higher quality of this video? its so blurry , i cant see a thing

  • Great tutorial! always on the cutting edge, Andrew. I've been experimenting with this too and I like your technique. I think the best part of cs4's texturing, if I'm not mistaken, is that it's not restrained by mesh's resolution like Zbrush. In other words, I can texture a high-res image on relatively low poly model and it will keep all the detail once I export the texture. It looks like Z-applink just went obsolete.

  • As an Instructor, my school provides legit copies so that we can train our students

  • also, this software has been out for months

  • shit how the hell u got maya 2009 and photoshop cs4 alraedy,,? pirated?
