@chefchick1 I played Rochester in the first European version of the Broadway show... It does work trust me... It's far more faithful to the novel than the latest movie version.
@ReyntiensDanny To me, faithful to the novel means capturing the feeling you get while reading it and the characters emotions, not so much following the exact plot. Personally, I think the newest adaptation does this very well, especially for being only 2 hours long. I just can't imagine that gothic feel and all the deep emotions coming through in a musical.
@chefchick1True, and the new film did all that but what it left out was the journey Jane took,or the playfulness of Rochester (he's an emotional rollercoaster) Fassbinder just played it with one emotion, why are they so fascinated by each other , I totally didn't see that in the latest film, beautifully shot yes , But it was very cold The musical brings the gothic and the characters exactly as It says in the novel. please don't judge the show unless you've seen it.give it a chance.Belgium 2012
@ReyntiensDanny I would have to dissagree when it comes the Jane's journey, which I definitly see come through, but agree with you of the subject of Fassebender as Rochester. Although he did a very good job, he is not my favorite (it is by far Timothy Dalton). And maybe your right about the musical. Although I've seen plenty of clips and know I would not enjoy the full show, plenty of people seem to like it. I guess to begin with I should have posted that it's just not for me.
@dht23 All shows are profesionally filmed at some point when they play on Broadway. Unfortunately most never are released for consumers to purchase and are, instead, held in the archives at the Lincoln Center.
Who's idea was it to make a musical out of Jane Eyre? It just doesn't work...

Lovely. I have the recorded play, not in such a great quality though. Perhaps someday I'll upload it when I learn how to do so and have the time!

Which part do you play? :)

Lord "Teto" Ingram/Ensemble. The ensemble part is huge--there are 14 ensemble numbers in the show. We open in just under 2 weeks.

I wish they would release the original broadway cast on DVd, they filmed it for archival purposes. This musical is amazing! I've been in it twice.
