  • I remember when this song came out and I swear untill a few years ago allways thought a chick was singing this song..

  • this is glam rock nice song

  • I guess in 1978 the world really needed a sunny ode to child prostitution...

  • I was a teen when this came out. I cant tell you how many parents and teachers were sexing it up with teens at that time. It was a weird time.

  • When I was 4, my parents would listen to a tape that hads this song on it when we would go on long car trips. I am 16 now and this is still one of my favorite songs. None of that Kesha crap. But I love you Kesha!

  • nice song, very enjoyable.

  • god damn hippies.

  • Worst song of all time. Makes me want to hurt and destroy...destroy...DESTROY. GRRRRRAAAAAAWWWWWW!

  • @Multi80schick thats exactly how i feel when i'm horny to!

  • @garr0414 LOL, didn't say I was horny, but it invokes odd little urges I can't control...

  • Anyone else think this guy looks like Ben Orr from The Cars?

  • I am 40 so I remember this song from when it originally came out. Not from the LA INK comemrcial haha. Just a great song. Wonder what he is doing now.

  • Awesome song!

  • I thought it was woman singing this for like 30 years.

  • @genepoolshallow Im with you, didnt know it was a man until a couple of months ago when I was up late and watching one of those infomericals for 80s cd collections.

  • @genepoolshallow

Me too. I was little so I didn't know what the song was about.

  • Was 5 when it came out...loved it then and still do...

  • Just gotta say it; Like this if you're listening in 2012!!!

  • is the person singing a guy??

  • good stuff right there

  • Like nif you listened to this in 1980

  • i had one of these starving waifs show up on my doorstep begging for food when i was in college. i fed her a bowl of cereal and tossed her out. i should have made her take a shower. she stank. i barely remember the song. i was into aerosmith and boston by then.

  • this used to be my theme song

  • Now THAT'S what I call MUSIC!... hot music in the city

  • This song was originally about breast-feeding.

It was called Hot Child and the Titty.

  • @jessie74 no dumbass its about child prostitution dont be a cunt

  • @SlayaSS1 you`re a pervert. this song is about fashion runways and the young models who love them.

  • @jessie74 are u stupid or just ignorant ???

  • @lmpike64

Are you always this uptight? Are do you just lack a sense of humor?

  • @lmpike64 lol jesus fuck man, I can't even imagine how you'd react to something that's legitimately aggravating. Get in your car and start yelling at everything that makes you angry. It'll help brother. If all else fails, smoke some weed. To most people, i'd recommend just doing that latter, but you seem to have a serious problem. That's my diagnosis. Reach out to the help around you, it's everywhere if you're willing to look for it. God doesn't exist, and he won't do it for you

  • @jessie74

That would make a hilarious parody.

  • Like this if you were a hot child back in the late '70's/early '80's.

  • Like this if you aren't just listening to this currently, but plan to listen to this in the near and far future

  • I used to think a girl sung this!

  • this song was a hit when i was 8 years old....lol but still know all the words.

  • we'll make LOVEEEEEEEEE

  • 70s XD

  • Listening to this in 2011 ? Everyone knows its 2016

  • @DoubleA3009 LOL!!!! to be loose...go figure...!

  • The best part of this video is how the album is actually called "The Best of Nick Gilder". How can a one hit wonder have of Best Of album???? Classic.

  • Like this, just to get one of the top comments to not be the exact same thing. o.o

  • Thats the beauty of Rock as opposed to other genres, genres like hip hop. Rock music lives on and only gets more popular as more and more poeople discover it. hip hop listeneres couldnt tell you what song they were listening to last week

  • love it, have it on a CD ~~~!!!!! Listen to it from time to time, takes me back, love it

  • love it, have it on a CD ~~~!!!!!

  • sex and the city :-)

  • Just another awesome tune from the days when music was real.

  • He looks like a chick that I dated back in high school

  • luv it the music the guitar soso much a good dance tune !!!!!

  • Does anyone know why there is a commentary about Justin Bieber in every music video in youtube? Sour people, I guess. After all, with Internet you can listen any music you want at any moment...

I am not a Justin Bieber fan, by the way.

  • Like this if you think Justin Bieber is a over rated fag and todays genre of music sucks like shit!

  • Borderline pedo but still good

  • when i moved to the city my dad would not stop singing this to me he would call me just to sing this to me he still dose some times when i miss home i play it

  • Like is your sick of people asking if your listening to this in the present year.

  • Nick Gilder was clear trans-gendered.

  • This song was sooooo cool back in the day! He even kinda looks like a chick!

  • 16 in 1978

  • @KanyeTroll --that is disgusting!!!!

  • When this song first came out, I thought it was a chick singing lol

  • So at the very least 56 people who saw this are tools that push the like button on command.... nice to know

  • While I like this song instrumentally, this is one creepy looking, creepy sounding creep singing about creepy shit.

  • @intuantu omg i know

  • i never knew a guy sung this, even though the lyrics point in that direction

  • this is a song that pedophiles enjoy

  • This is the version that was played back in the 70's...(that I recall anyway).

But...there is a slightly longer version, which I just heard recently.

How could the 70's betray me!

Well, I'll just blame the DJ's instead...

    GREAT TUNE!

EVEN BETTER WITH THE LONGER VERSION!!

  • loved this song back in the day!

  • lol i was watching that 70's show on youtube and one of the spisode started with this chorus and it got stuck in my head and here i am now :) but this is a guy singin?

  • this makes me feel less nervous i could listen to this stuff over and over not like hannah montana lol

  • This was on that '70s show only in the beging

  • This reminds me of that summer in Alaska; we were literally so cool.

  • I was 2...probably one of the first songs I memorized the words to...I think Air Supply wins that one. Hahaha

  • most of us in cali thought this was a cool song ,i mean the chicks liked it and it was on the radio ,and yes some did not now a guy sang the song. feel old .

  • I love this song, I was 9 years old when this came out! I know for a fact this song is about child prostitutes, 14-15 years old. This came from the singer himself in a magazine article. The 70's was a different and strange time. If you google it, you will find the article and his exact words about the meaning of this song. I still love this son.go though. I think he meant to sing this from the perspective of an observer of child prostitution, not his own desires.

  • i actually like dis song,,OMG shhhh.....dnt tell my mom

  • @SuperLizzie73 ((pulls up pants))

  • I am so old!

  • The child molesters anthem.

  • I see it supper and your right not sexy lol

  • To all you pro wrestling fans out there (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Phillip Brooks came into the world (October 26, 1978). Brooks is now known as C.M. Punk.

  • Before I found this video I would've sworn on my life that this was sung by a female.

  • Love this song was surprised to find out it was a guy singing it.

  • Like this is your listening to this in 2011

  • @littlemisssunshi8017 No, i'm listening to this on Judgment Day.

  • I've heard this song hundreds of times on my aunts mix cd since I was 10 and today was the first day I found out it was a man singing this.

  • now thats funny.....butt crack to the right

  • I think Nick has caught teh gay.

  • this reminds me of a girl.. too bad she was a player

  • TV PARTY GLEN O BRIEN

  • I heard this song this Saturday and it brought back memories of the 70's. Hell, I too thought a woman sung this song. He even looks like a girl. Oh well, a great song and I'm still diggin it. :)

  • For the life of me, as a child I thought a woman sang this song.

  • @mlhutchin i thought it was a woman too!lol.

  • Why did classic rock & AOR stations snub this classic? Because it came from the disco & sentimental soft rock era? Sounds like classic rock to me. I really don't get it.

  • @bucky468 i think it definatley falls into the glam rock category of the sweet and hello. its definately closest to glam rock.

  • jesus haven't heard this song in forever, lol still love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why isnt this man in the rock and roll hall of fame?

you are listening to the reason.

  • @pbrick6301 Co-sign!

  • nick wrote a lot of songs for a lot of people...great artist.

  • I'm not gay, but this guys voice kinda gets me hard...

  • Pat Benatar covered a Nick Gilder song called Rated X. This song is band proof.

  • Man to be this age again......i so loved this song...

  • I always thought it was Pat Benatar that sang this

  • @FanLedZeppelin Pat Benatar is awesome but sadly does not sing this song

  • ITS ON SEX AND THE CITY :D gettting high hahah

  • @chikbot When Nick Gilder wrote this song back in 1978, this sort of thing was more common then

  • I remember when this song came out it was considered risque and we used to have to put on headphones to listen because of the content. That's funny considering the crap that you hear on the radio today. This guy though was a little ahead of his time in my opinion...would've been a great 80's song.

  • things were different back then with many bands pushing the edge.

  • I love this song and there is a video of clips of mariska hargitay in law and order special victims unit. AWESOME song!!!!!! NOT about an actual hot child in the city.

  • memories :)

  • @Helene2367 I Know! Right!!!!!!!!

  • have not heard this in forever

  • Child prostitutes????? you gotta be kidding. When I listen to it I think of the hot young (but legal) girls I used to see dancing in the nightclubs when I was in my twentys. Dressed to kill, care free, and going home with whichever guy had the best blow. "She's kinda dangerous" as in a guy could fall in love with her and be in BIG trouble. I don't think he means child literally.

Nice guitar solo but could have been longer.

  • @gunnbob2009 I won't forget visiting my aunt in LA with my mother. My aunt took us to Santa Monica beach...I'll NEVER forget the sad-eyed teenage runaways and (I'm afraid) prostitutes lining Santa Monica Boulevard the blocks before the beach. Dear Lord, I hope the majority if not all of them were able to safely escape that lifestyle.

  • Two things: A) the intro to this song seems borrowed from the introduction to Brownsville Station's "Go out and get her" from their "Yeah!" album (which was the original home of "Smokin' in the boy's room"), and; B) WLS/Chicago used to play the slightly extended version of this, which was exactly the same except after the abrupt a capella ending had a somber guitar interlude over the melody which wound down with Gilder sighing "Hot chilllllld". This really is a sad song about a sad lifestyle.

  • What was the song on the B side of this record?. I think the small ones we're 45's

  • @dreamkill1970 Ooh, sorry! Couldn't tell you the B side if I wanted to because it's been so many years. How cute! You may be really young. Yes, the vinyl 45's were the small ones and the 331/3 vinyls were typically the whole album. We had these little record players that you could set to the 33, 45 or 78 speed. : )

  • @gunnbob2009 I had no idea. He stated in the song that the girl ignored the boys who looked at her, so I figured she just didn't seek that kind of attention, and that her elusiveness played a role in why he was attracted to her. But now that you've mentioned it, I can see how he had prostitutes in mind, especially when he talked about "danger."

  • Nirvana used some intro parts :D

  • Love the song. He has absolutely no masculinity in his voice though. ...could be a woman. lol

  • @1Aivilo2 Who cares? It's a sweet song! lol

  • This song came out when I was like 14..DAYUM...luvin it!!!!

  • Yeah I always thought it was a girl. I saw the video once and it blew my mind.

  • To all you Florida Panthers fans: This was the #1 song in the USA when Sergei Samsonov came into the world (October 27, 1978).

  • Classic! It is so cool to listen to the 70's/80's tunes on here and reflect back to when life was so simple and trouble free.... Keep them coming friends!

  • Does this song start with the guitar lick from DAZED AND CONFUSED ?? ;-)

  • @matthewb2015 Quite similar to it I think.

  • Good song in my book

  • @IwontConform Craig Krampf

  • @91Bear thanks,i couldnt be sure about the spelling

  • Wow this brings back memories. I was about 12 or 13 when this song was popular.

  • Please help. I need to know when this song was released, i.e. when is the earliest date in 1978 it could have been played on the radio or in a record store.

  • "We'll make love!"

    "Hot child in the city"

    "She's kinda dangerous"

So this is a song about pedophilia?

  • Nick has a high singing voice like Geddy Lee of "RUSH". Nick's first two albums are awesome!

  • WHAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST

  • @SuperJosie79 the guy with the girly voice in this song is a male, Nick Gilder. Was raised in my hometown here too,Vancouver,Canada. Didn't know that I google searched and found it out! Small World we live in!!

  • I heard this song when I was a about 4 or 5. Just a few days ago, on a search for better music, this just popped in my head.

  • i used to listen to this song with my mom when i was a lil girl. i love my mom! i have the best mom in the world!

  • Iv been dancing to this song for two days.

  • Somebody stole this boys share of testosterone at birth. I'm guessing he didn't play rugby.

  • @backintheday1 Isn't his voice odd? It's not because it's particularly "high", but it certainly has a rather feminine pitch to it...

  • To a mexican a HOT CHILD IN THE CITY

a is a sexy white woman in a bikini in july

b is a cool song from the old days

c any 2 -6 year old that can be sold for pesos in TJ
