When I was 4, my parents would listen to a tape that hads this song on it when we would go on long car trips. I am 16 now and this is still one of my favorite songs. None of that Kesha crap. But I love you Kesha!
I am 40 so I remember this song from when it originally came out. Not from the LA INK comemrcial haha. Just a great song. Wonder what he is doing now.
@genepoolshallow Im with you, didnt know it was a man until a couple of months ago when I was up late and watching one of those infomericals for 80s cd collections.
i had one of these starving waifs show up on my doorstep begging for food when i was in college. i fed her a bowl of cereal and tossed her out. i should have made her take a shower. she stank. i barely remember the song. i was into aerosmith and boston by then.
@lmpike64 lol jesus fuck man, I can't even imagine how you'd react to something that's legitimately aggravating. Get in your car and start yelling at everything that makes you angry. It'll help brother. If all else fails, smoke some weed. To most people, i'd recommend just doing that latter, but you seem to have a serious problem. That's my diagnosis. Reach out to the help around you, it's everywhere if you're willing to look for it. God doesn't exist, and he won't do it for you

most of us in cali thought this was a cool song ,i mean the chicks liked it and it was on the radio ,and yes some did not now a guy sang the song. feel old .
I love this song, I was 9 years old when this came out! I know for a fact this song is about child prostitutes, 14-15 years old. This came from the singer himself in a magazine article. The 70's was a different and strange time. If you google it, you will find the article and his exact words about the meaning of this song. I still love this son.go though. I think he meant to sing this from the perspective of an observer of child prostitution, not his own desires.

Why did classic rock & AOR stations snub this classic? Because it came from the disco & sentimental soft rock era? Sounds like classic rock to me. I really don't get it.
I remember when this song came out it was considered risque and we used to have to put on headphones to listen because of the content. That's funny considering the crap that you hear on the radio today. This guy though was a little ahead of his time in my opinion...would've been a great 80's song.
I love this song and there is a video of clips of mariska hargitay in law and order special victims unit. AWESOME song!!!!!! NOT about an actual hot child in the city.
Child prostitutes????? you gotta be kidding. When I listen to it I think of the hot young (but legal) girls I used to see dancing in the nightclubs when I was in my twentys. Dressed to kill, care free, and going home with whichever guy had the best blow. "She's kinda dangerous" as in a guy could fall in love with her and be in BIG trouble. I don't think he means child literally.
@gunnbob2009 I won't forget visiting my aunt in LA with my mother. My aunt took us to Santa Monica beach...I'll NEVER forget the sad-eyed teenage runaways and (I'm afraid) prostitutes lining Santa Monica Boulevard the blocks before the beach. Dear Lord, I hope the majority if not all of them were able to safely escape that lifestyle.
Two things: A) the intro to this song seems borrowed from the introduction to Brownsville Station's "Go out and get her" from their "Yeah!" album (which was the original home of "Smokin' in the boy's room"), and; B) WLS/Chicago used to play the slightly extended version of this, which was exactly the same except after the abrupt a capella ending had a somber guitar interlude over the melody which wound down with Gilder sighing "Hot chilllllld". This really is a sad song about a sad lifestyle.
@dreamkill1970 Ooh, sorry! Couldn't tell you the B side if I wanted to because it's been so many years. How cute! You may be really young. Yes, the vinyl 45's were the small ones and the 331/3 vinyls were typically the whole album. We had these little record players that you could set to the 33, 45 or 78 speed. : )
@gunnbob2009 I had no idea. He stated in the song that the girl ignored the boys who looked at her, so I figured she just didn't seek that kind of attention, and that her elusiveness played a role in why he was attracted to her. But now that you've mentioned it, I can see how he had prostitutes in mind, especially when he talked about "danger."
Classic! It is so cool to listen to the 70's/80's tunes on here and reflect back to when life was so simple and trouble free.... Keep them coming friends!
