Since then, the term football has grown in England to simply refer to this game - and rugby stuck for, ... well, ... rugby. soccer isnt a contact sport because contact isnt explicitly part of the game (you cant deck someone like you can in say football, or hockey) however, in hockey you get 5 minutes for fighting and in football you get suspended. boxers can punch their opponents out.

hard contact isnt in soccer often because its not a part of the rules. this doesnt neccessarily mean there arent incidences of hard contact.
