I use cloth diapers on my grandson and I have been lucky enough to find ALL types of diapers, doublers and covers second hand!! They are still in excellent shape---not "nasty" in any way and so CHEAP!! I have not spent more than 100 dollars---TOTAL! So--check around at "Mom to Mom" sales or any used children's store!
I clean them in hot water with Allen's Naturally detergent and I dry ONLY my prefolds on high heat. I let everything else air dry on a dry rack. I clean the diapers every other day. I keep 36 diapers handy for newborn. I use cloth diapers all the time unless I am on vacation or visiting family. Then I use disposable.
Can you please spell the name of that light green diaper-like thing and where you bought it? And what do you need it for? Do you put it on the actual Chinese precloth?
"Thirsties" are diaper covers that go on top of the prefolds or fitted diapers to keep the diapers from leaking and getting all over your baby's clothes because the fitted and prefold diapers are not waterproof. The place I got them is in the side bar.
Honestly , it's a matter of saving money. I don't mind washing diapers if it means I don't have to buy diapers every week, especially when I would be going through about 84 diapers a week at around $16.99/package. So for the first six months of my baby's life i would be spending on average about $408! That is almost 2/3 of the cost I spent for infant to toddler cloth diapers and all the accessories!
Not to be critical but just curious. Seems like thats a little bulky and messy, whats your reason for using cloth diapers verse the plastic? Are you just an all natural person?

P.S. Do those light green diapers with green buttons ever leak?

The light green Mommy's Touch diapers do nto leak if you have the proper inserts in them. The hemp inserts work best for ultimate absorption.

May you please tell how do you manage to clean these things? Do you clean them, for instance, once in a couple of days or every day/right away?
How many would you buy for a newborn to keep them handy?
And are you planning to use them all the time (and for how long) or still will rely on disposable diapers once in a while?
Thank you in advance.
