What a song. What a spectacular voice! Ms. Streisand, you have given so many wonderful performances. This, in my opinion, is one of the best. Thank you, Ms. Stresiand, for your gifts that you share with the world. I love you. Thanks for this post.
I loved this tv special, so much that I bought the soundtrack to it......in vinyl of course (it WAS the 70s!). The sing-along with Schubert was unbelievable. So many different styles...so many different Barbras! Thanks for posting this!
In rtve.es you can find the full tv special if you search there: Barbra streisand y otros instrumentos musicales. It's in black and white 'cause it's from a tv special tha the national tv of spain did about streisand's special in 1974
I can't believe that there are only about 13,000 views of this video. There should be about 100 x's more than that. It's truly one of Barbra's greatest on screen performances, and that's saying a lot.

For this viewer, Streisand's finest moment on camera. And that is saying something with so many exquisite moments to choose from in her incredible career. She and the orchestra become one with this song -- the arrangement is luxurious...sheer perfection --and every gorgeous lyric rings true. No one will every match this woman's vocal artistry or even come close...EVER!
Breathtaking. She's truly in a class by herself. The way she creates the mood in this song, you feel yourself being pulled into her, completely given into the story's story. I could take this journey every day.
This is side of Streisand seldom seen. Live delivery of a beautiful lyric that no one can touch after it's been done by her. I pray that there is a treasure trove of this kind of stuff in a vault somewhere. Exquisite.
This is very possibly the high point of the entire TV show "B.S. and other Musical Instruments." The first three minutes are Barbra taking us to the mountain top and then at 2:40 we're really chugging up the trail. Finally at 4:12 the delivery.
It's why Streisand is and shall ever be in a class by herself. There will never be another singer who could achieve what she could with the human singing voice.
This song was written for the musical play "House Of Flowers", book by Truman Capote, lyrics by Harold Arlen. It never was a great success, but it had some awesome songs- this one and "A Sleepin Bee". It debuted in 1955, and was brought back in 1968. I believe Pearl Bailey was in the first production.
Fantastic. why is she so entrancing?! it is tragic how few visual recordings there are of her truly performing a song at her peak. This looks to be one take, un-dubbed, un-doctored and...astonishing. what a freak miracle her voice is. i wonder if she has ever really grasped just how special her life has been because of it. of the billions of lives that have played out on planet earth, hers has surely been one of the most remarkable to have lived. thank god she knew how to work it.
She knew then and now, the way to move an audiance was to bring them right in to herself. Can you see her draw you in, note by note. The way her lips articulate each nuamce in each and every note. Truly the mark of a very talented actress.
I'm always amazed by this girl. I get hypnotized by her look, her cham, her class, her skills and her instrument. I agree with pinkhighway that the studio version is just...perfect...a work of art....unbeatable! It's a pity it is unknown gem by her...as many others
just lovely.

Love that lyric: "That near-to-me boy with that far away look." Magical. And, of course, sung by the greatest.

A perfect orientation piece for today's younger generation who do not fathom the power and magic of Streisand.

It should noted that the audio track of this TV special is recorded live than that of the LP album version.

Good GOD, she is astounding. Her voice had an almost unnatural power back in the 70s, and the control she had over it is breathtaking.

Great Barbra, always including a Harold
Arlen song herever possible. I feel she should have included an Arlen song as a
duet with Diana Krall in her last CD LOVE IS THE ANSWER. Imagine Barbra singing I GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING.......
