I was 16 when I first heard Radiohead's "Pablo Honey", at the height of grunge-rock. I'm so glad that a band escaped from that time period to give us such wonderful soundscapes that will endure for future generations!
On the album, Thom sings two tracks the whole time. One is panned right, the other left. One goes off on the high note and the other continues singing the chorus. It would be interesting to see Ed sing that part along with it, but that guitar part is tricky to play and sing at the same time...
F'in brings a smile to my face everytime at the end. I used to be jealous of those who grew up in the late 60's because they had all of that great rock and roll. But no more because folks we have Radiohead.
I've been asking the SAME DAMN THING. Seriously. Maybe Ed's a self-conscious mother fucker who's thinking "this song's too beautiful, I can't harmonize on it... I'm just... too weak. (._.)" Maybe the guitar work on this song is too complicated for him to sing at the same time. That's definitely more likely. Still, I can watch this and sing back up at the same time. That's kinda fun.
I don't know why everyone always fetishes over Ed's "parts" when he doesn't have "parts", he is just making up for the fact that there is only one Thom Yorke.
I don't know of anytime on any recording that he sings.
We know that. We all know that. It's just, typically, overdub vocals are taken care of live by the fact that there is somebody else in the band who can sing other than the lead vocalist.
Same here. Radiohead are more accomplished musicians than Cokldplay, but Coldplay are still an excellent band whose music sends shivers down my spine. Both amazing British bands in their own right.
I agree that Radiohead is leagues ahead of Coldplay, but still give coldplay due credit, you can take points away from them cos they plagiarise their own work a bit, clocks & speed of sound are far too similar. they could never produce something as incredible as Let Down though
I think it's funny how people keep saying that Radiohead is better than Coldplay and the other way around .. It's a matter of opinion for god sake ! Both have proved to be amazing bands but wether you prefer one thing or the other cannot be discussed .. That is up to each person to decide .. Both make great lyrics and great music .. I love them both .. Halleluja :)
actually called just viva la vida my friend .. but still .. two very different albums .. if you want to compare OK Computer to anything it would be A Rush of Blood to the Head or X&Y .. Viva la Vida is a whole new direction for Coldplay and cannot be compared to any of their previous work musically .. words spoken by themselves ..
Coldplay isn't a fraction of th band Radiohead is...don't get me wrong, there are Coldplay songs that I love, but Radiohead is in a class all by themselves.
this is the first Radiohead song I've ever listened to and I like their mellow sound very much; I don't know why I've never heard their music before. I guess they've not had much air time on TV when I was watching. Coldplay, who has def. hit it big in a major way in the U.S., was supposedly influenced by Radiohead.
eh? nothing wrong with Thom's voice here. it's a crap quality youtube video, that's why it doesn't hold up to the studio version. it's a brilliant performance.
Thom's voice sounds pretty weak here. Not one of there best performances, but a great song either way. Still delivers that little bit of hope at the end.
This is a pretty poor live performance when compared to the New York City (Live on MTV) performance. His voice just doesn't sound anywhere near the studio version here.
@sashalovesderek kinda makes wonder what you'd be like if you had maybe obsessed with another band, what quotes you'd use, what things would remind you of songs of other bands rather than radiohead. What you'd dress like, what you would think is cool, and who'd you think is the most awesome cat on Earth, if not Thom Yorke
I WOULD GIVE ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THEM TO PLAY THIS LIVE NOW!!!!!!! each time i see it, they NEVER play it, and its the ONLY song i ever want to hear live.... OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGg
How come you've been to 20+ Radiohead concerts? it's such a pity some people do have that advantages over other people, i've dreamt since i was 17 years old of being in a Radiohead gig, i'm gonna reach 27 soon, and the posibilities of they coming to Venezuela are worse than ever!!! I get envious when some of you say that this gig is bad or not, i'd love to be any radiohead gig being sure that this will be the most amazing experience of my life
I've been loving radiohead for 11 years.. but they never come to seoul.. every years they go to japan.. but never come to korea. even 2 hour far from japan.. T.T I really wanna be their live.. now im in sydney.. plz come to here on 2009!!! plz!!
Watching this 'live performance' for the first time (it's my all time favourite Radiohead song), I've just fallen in love with the drum beats...I'd not really 'heard' them before - amazing.
I know youre not saying that offensively but they are such an amazing live band, one of the best to be honest. Ive seen them and wow, just wow, so amazing. Guess you have to see them to appreciate the live performance? But still theyre amazing live.
Chubz123, I really have to disagree, in my opinion Radiohead quite often outperforms themselves live than in the studio. Theres a reason why they are currently ranked 2nd in "Best Live Acts" in the world. They are almost like a contemporary Pink Floyd. Try and download the entire concert of Radiohead's 2003 Glastonbury performance! You will be amazed!
Another song that is RARELY played live is Electioneering. I love that song and I don't see why Jonny would hate it. Subterranean Homesick Alien might be Jonny's least favorite.
i thought they didn't play it a lot live because Thom doesn't like it. also, in an interview Jonny (i think it was) said that there's a song on OK Computer that he absolutely can't stand. not saying, it's necessarily this one, but you know, that would explain why they just don't want to play certain songs.
I was actually at this show - they were touring in support of OK Computer. The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium isn't a huge venue, and it was a pretty intimate show. I think this was my all-time favorite concert.
i'd have to disagree. i went to a live show of theirs last year and it was excellent. this is just a really crappy video. some of their live stuff is better than their recorded. AND they recreate their sound VERY well live and im such a hater that i drink haterade with my cookies for breakfast.
rock that rickenbacker, ed! radiohead rules. but it is lacking a bit in intensity (it's a very intense song) and of course the background vocals at the climax. but musically they pulled it off very well.
