  • Hutton was not well liked by the film crews that worked on her picutures; she was not popular and this hurt her career.

  • I love her mischievious expression and sassy brown eyes!

  • Wonderful woman!. What a respectful man Mr. Daly was!, I liked too much that gesture he made when he showed that both were holding hands to calm Miss Betty´s nerves.. What man so gentlemanly, intelligent and professional!

  • Just think when this was on the assumption was that every child would die from leukemia...how far we have come.

  • What year is this from?

  • MyMother said when I was a child that Betty hutton was "TOO MUCH...TOO PUT ON!"

As an adult I can be confident in saying that my Mother was "FULL OF SH*T!"

  • Wow. She's absolutely stunning here!!!! I love her so much!

  • Betty was pretty and talented, but also manic and not mentally stable. Looking at her here, it's sad to think she ended up having a very troubled life.

  • Incredable woman! What she has gone through in life I give her credit.

  • She was so dynamic on screen, such a bundle of energy one just couldn't keep up with her. You were exhaused after watching this rare talent.

  • One of the few correct guesses the great Fred Allen ever got. Bravo!

  • What a great clip, thanks!

  • betty hutton wore this same dress on her 1959-60 show episode " the seaton story" at 13:22. this shows how muscular her back was. she was really an athletic powerful woman.

  • extremely talented and gutsy....

"Miracle at Morgan's Creek" dealt with a sensitve issue of the time ( an unwed mother). I don't think many actresses of the day would've done that movie

  • Betty got tired of having to be a firecracker all the time. She was treated unkindly while at M-G-M rescuing "Annie Get Your Gun," which proved an enormous success and made the studio a fortune. She was accused of being temperamental and irresponsible but the film is proof she was indeed professional as her performance is sterling start to finish. She had a very messy later life but in the end came out triumphant. She was very bright and very sensitive, not a firecracker at all.

  • I agree; beneath her boisterous facade there was a tender, sensitive woman. Just listen to her sing a ballad.

  • I've always though Betty's problem was she was so bright! She did indeed teach drama at a college later in life. In interviews she was always articulate and beyond that evidenced careful thought and perfect manners. I think most of her career, which was enormous both in films and on recordings, she was frustrated always having to battle for a voice in decisions and artistic choices. There just weren't many options for bright women. And they had to fight for every artistic goal they had.

  • Once again I agree with you. Today's actors should be thankful for not having the restraints placed upon them as Betty and her contemporaries had to fight. Studio moguls back then pretty much ruled the roost. It was sad.

  • I want to thank the person who found this clip, I was just putting a question out to the You Tube viewership, as to why Betty Hutton really quit Hollywood? I had heard from my parents that she had gained national and world wide attention promoting her charity work, I think this clip confirms what I had heard. Thank's!

  • As to her absence from Film- Betty recently on TV has mentioned her raising children & comitment to Jesus Christ as prime reasons for her stepping out of the Movie Biz- in here recent interview - she posessed super enthusiasim and vitality shrp as a tack as they say-and still very beautiful ...love this lady -

  • You are right mkrobinson95. It WAS a big success. I misspoke.

But, as I said, this lovely woman seems to have never recovered from the trials of the production for Annie Get Your Gun. Imagine a woman of her immense talent being "retired" at such a young and vibrant age.

  • I just love to watch this lady do anything. shes so cute.

  • This poor lady. I think "Annie Get Your Gun" did her in. She was hated by all on the staff and her co-stars as well. (This was the movie that Judy Garland had to leave because of a breakdown) The result was a less than stellar movie and her career went downhill. Very sad.

  • While she was treated badly on the set of Annie Get Your Gun, the movie was a tremendous success ... your comment of it being a "less than stellar movie" is simply your opinion ... it was a huge box office success.

  • Fred Allen's second to last appearance on WML. The running gag was that he was not very good as a questioner, but as we see here, he solved the mystery guest sequence.

  • She was a huge star for a while, amazing that she is almost entirely forgotten now.

  • I just realized this - - she, and her work, saved my life.

  • I loved her in the movie "The Greatest Show On Earth" where she plays a trapeze performer in the circus. Great performance by her...

    RIP, Betty.

  • Thats my favorite also. The lady was so talented.

  • omg, she was so beautiful.

  • She was a drunk for years. She eventually turned to religion and worked for charity for the rest of her life.

  • aww she looks great

  • She was named "Mother of the Year," but her own grown children refused to attend her funeral. Sad.

  • Very

  • I love her eyes and expressions.

  • Do you know what year this episode aired??

    Great video,

    Kate

  • This episode aired on March 4, 1956. Betty also appeared in 1958 as mystery guest, that episode is out on YouTube somewhere as well.

  • What a great woman! Imagine, a celebrity who actually helped people.

  • Someone else has posted this episode, but YOUR version is 1.5 minutes longer ... thank you for this longer video!

  • Thanks for pointing this out.

  • So good to see this. Thank you for posting. Now, I have to go listen to Betty Hutton singing "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" -- a gorgeous song, so well sung!

  • She was a darned good actress who fell on hard times later and ended up in a convent, I think.

  • Betty Hutton did fall on hard times but didn't join a convent. She met a priest from the Catholic Church, converted to the church and volunteered her services with the soup kitchen. The priest helped her get a high school diploma, then a college diploma, and she eventually became a college professor in drama. So there was a happy ending. She was very happy and fulfilled during that time.

  • always a star! x

  • Yay for Fred!!!

  • The incomparable Miss Betty Hutton whose total recognition is long overdo- may she forever rest in Eternal Peace.
