In the very early 60's when I was a small boy I bought a wind up gramaphone and some 78's from a jumble sale in Leeds, this was one of the records and i played it to death. Unfortunately someone broke into our house in the 80's and decided they wanted my gramaphone and records more than me. Thank you for posting, brought back happy memories.
My Mum used to sing this, this brings back memories of her singing this in my childhood. John Peel, Radio DJ used to like hime as well and arranged him to appear on his Radio 1 show in about 2002.
Hi my name is Ron Groenewoud form the Netherlands.
Ronnie Ronalde's son also named Ronnie and I were friends in the 70's in Guernsey when they were living there. I have been trying to find Ronnie but no luck yet. As you say you and him are friends, maybe you can help me to find him.
No wonder he is thought to be Irish this song, was very popular in Ireland in the 1950, a pleasure to hear it again after what seems a lifetime, nas enjoyable now as ever. I am singing along and loving ever note .
Thanks for correcting me on that detail. Apparently he was born in Islington, London,1923. His original name being Ronald Charles Waldron. I'll amend my text.
This brings back such memories.I saw Mr Ronalde in concert a few year ago in Nottingham. He is and always has been brilliant and I am a huge fan...thank you.
I also had an old wind up record player this was my only record and I played it to death every evening as I did my homework in the shop .
