@skk2296 I would say once every few months. Bathing too often will dry their skin out, and it stresses out many hedgies.

Hey can someone please help!!! My hedgehogs skin is very red and I'm pretty sure it's because it's dry. He still eats and runs in his wheel and is pretty healthy, but I don't know what to do! Are there lotions or certain shampoos I should buy? I'm just really worried about him.

thank you for ur help i got a hedhehog that came in the humane scociy and i took it home insted of putting it down cuz i work there and we only take in dogs and cats only this is where i get all my pets lol

@rockstar7809 The Quills don't hurt, they can if they roll into a tight ball, but they don't hurt most of the time. If you get pricked by a quill wash your hands because you might have an allergic reaction to the food they have anointed on themselves

@futurehedgehogowner Just as often as they are dirty or have very dry skin. Bathing too often can cause dry skin, however...and also can cause stress.

@QualityQuills If your hedgehog has resspitroy issus what should i do? the pet store that i got my hedgehog from gave him to me in a little box and the box had PINE SHAVINGS in it....i'm certain that hedgehogs should NOT have pineshavings but the pet store is suppost to know what their doing with an animal!? please help me cure him before i have to take him to the vet! He is about 14 weeks old and he has dry skin,i have not bathed him yet and and he also looses ALOT of quills;whats wrong ith him

@brennamelnyk If he is loosing quills and has dry skin at 14 weeks old, that's probably just quilling. To comfort him, bathe him with an oatmeal soap and drizzle olive oil over his back after the bath. (I have a video about it) If he is showing signs of a respiratory issue, you should take him to an exotic pet vet.
