I think the misconception of Aliyah's performance style is that she is more subtle than most. She's a lovely gymnast and I hope she medals in Beijing.

I agree with everyone, her routines are quite lovely and she performs her difficulties with real ease...her flexibility is to die for too! But the lack of expression tends to dull her whole performance, if she could improve that she'd be awesome I think :)

zero expression, she could do the same routine with the yellow submarine music and nobody would notice the difference...

I don't know, she's been on the international senior level since 2001 and she hasn't gained a drop of expression, so I've kind of given up on that. However, Aliya always shows perfect and beautiful positions, and she has original touches in her routine. If you just decide to pay attention, her routine is actually very beautiful, it's just so easy to get bored and not notice the details because she is not very into it herself.

Yeah I agree, her control and execution is really nice, and the routine has a very nice flow to it, she is a beautiful gymnast dont get me wrong, but she needs to reflect the mood of the music, as Anna Bessonova does so well. Doing so, it would be so much easier to enjoy and notice each element... I just feel so sorry for how Bessonova did in that competition, her hoop was very unlucky. But rather there than at the real Olympics, Kapranove performed very well!!!

I agree. She has all the grace and flexibility, but if she had some expresion it would be better. Still, she is a wonderful gymnast and one of my favourites.
