@congoairman Thanks man...glad you like it..sorry bout the whistling and the shaky camera work but i was so exited to hear him play this song ,lost my cool for a bit . !!!
@kclemas I like the whistling, it adds to the excitement and enables listeners to get the feel of what was taking place. I may move to Phoenix. Spent last winter there. Loved it. You may want to check out a live version of Ohio by Crosby Stills Nash and Young performed in Canada. The camera person was cheering sometimes. But it really added to the song. (sometimes it works out!!!)
@kclemas This is one of those times when the amateur camera work actually ADDS to the proceedings; I watch this video and feel like I'm THERE. Same for the whistling. Thanks for recording and uploading.
WOW ! That's really different than the original recording! But I think its even better. Jose could never play anything the "wrong" way, he just takes them "up a notch."
I have always loved Jose's voice and guitar. I caught the bug off my father. I think his cover versions beat some of the originals, Light My Fire being one of them, Windmills Of Your Mind another. Marvelous stuff.
We listen to these performances, and yes, we appreciate the talent, but unless you are a guitarist yourself it is impossible to fully comprehend the true genius behind what you are witnessing. Jose' and his guitar are one instrument. His talent, as well as some other instrumentalists like himself, is not normal ... it is magic. Check out Muriel Anderson's 'Day Tripper' for example. She is talking to people in the room while playing a lead and bass in counter-tempo. That video blows my mind.
why do people continue to think guitar playin is a contest?? its a matter of taste!! you hav paco de lucia, john williams, al di meola, satriani, beck, malmsteen . i love them all equally, but who am i to say who's better?? there all different. and thats not to mention the millions of players we havent heard of yet
Jose doesn't really play Flamenco at all. He plays Spanish Classica, similar but not the same at all. He is however, about the best Latin Guitarist ever. Amazing.
Jose Feliciano is the man. I've been listening to his music 8 years old. So talented and people don't realize he is never off tune. good voice and of course his guitar playing is out of this world.
Great guitar player he is and probably the best at what he does but best guitar player in the world, he is not. Check out the videos with Carlos Barbosa Lima or Baden Powell or a classical player like John Williams and Manuel Barruecos. That said I think he is one of the most talented people out there. God Bless him!
Show me another guitarist that can master flamenco, rock, blues, jazz, etc etc at the level he does. You will not find any....only this guy. If that dont qualifies him as the best...damn what does?
chaman3872: Check out some of the players that I mentioned and you will see.
Like I said, Jose is probably the best at what he does, but the best guitar player in the world period? Sir, those are mighty big words! I love Jose and consider him one of the most talented people out there but not the best guitar player. Powell and Carlos Barbosa Lima will make 1 guitar sound like 3. And Williams and Barruecos are just incredible musicians and their technique is flawless. Kind regards
He is great at many styles and that is what he does best but he is not the best at any of them. He is not the best classical player by a really long, long shot, he is not the best rock player, not the best flamenco player and not the best jazz player either. He is however a super talented individual who can play all styles well, he has a terrific voice and what he does on the guitar while singing is great and his musical taste is incredible. Truly a god gifted man.
This version is great, not compare please: Jose is a true genius and he has created another song
Anyway exactly 40 years ago, Jose with this song and album won 2 Grammy (best pop song and Best New Artist 1968) and 5 nominations (plus best album, best production, best instrumental)
And just this last night, after 40 years, Jose won his 7th Grammy: for best Latin Tropical Album of 2008.
I hope Record company, give him a chance to record again an english and live CD, He deserve more of latin!
Feliciano was born in Lares, Puerto Rico, one of eleven children. He was first exposed to music at age three. At five, his family moved to Spanish Harlem, New York City and, at age nine, he played on the Teatro Puerto Rico. He started his musical life playing accordion until his grandfather gave him a guitar. He reputedly sat by himself in his room for up to 14 hours a day to listen to 1950s rock albums, classical guitarists such as Andrés Segovia, and jazz players such as Wes Montgomery.
Q - One hundred years from now, people will still be playing and listening to "Light My Fire". It's a rock classic. As the writer of that song, how doe*s that make you feel?
A - It's really a great feeling to have written a classic. I think I owe a big debt to Jose Feliciano because he is actually the one, when he did it, everybody started doing it. He did a whole different arrangement on it.
It was a much more accessible arrangement as far as different types of musicians doing it. Nobody had covered it up until that time. Once he did it, everybody started doing it.
one and only, you just don't find talent like this any more........ which is sad.... Jose, Dylan, Van Morrison, Clapton, Harrsion, Lennon, McCartney, Paul Simon, James Taylor. Who can fill this large void in music.......idk.... Soon they will all be gone :(
The new talent is there, but there are too few vehicles for artists.
Go back and look at 1960s and 1950s and even 1970s newspapers and check the TV listings. So many variety shows.
Now all we have is American Idol, which is mostly gab & hype, and people doing others' songs, usually not especially well.
Attend folk and blues and jazz festivals, and you'll find talented artists, young and old, who are doing incredible original stuff with a few covers along the way.
I would just like to make mention that in 1969 in a night club called "Mr. Luckys" in Phoenix, I was sitting at a table and unbeknown to me, across from me was Jose. This preformer is beyound awesome. He is in a class of his own.
Do anyone know where can i download the song "Como tu quieres" performed by Jose Feliciano in album "Como tu quieres" or album "Exitos De Jose Feliciano" ?
How cool!!!! At 1:41, right in the middle of a solo rife, he tunes the guitar!!!! I love this version.
