you can right click on windows sidebar icon on your task bar, then properties and tick start sidebar when windows start.

Check out the video responses for tutorials on how to create a gadget from scratch without any programs needed just a text editor such as notepad

i found something else when im gonna install desktopx again! skin studio!!!!

and i uninstall desktop x! theres another way to make sidebar gadgets without desktop x

copy and paste and blah blah blah..... cahnge save then rename folder and put in the sidebar gadgets folder

This was an example of how to easily export a gadget made with DesktopX to the Vista Sidebar. DesktopX can create some truly powerful objects.

i can't agree with you because i've never seen this DesktopX but in my opinion you can create more powerful and original gadgets just by making a little web-page with a bit of css here and a bit of gadget manifest there... pretty powerful either way, i guess. =)

DesktopX 3.5 would be a really good tool to use to make Windows Vista Side Bar Gadgets if it worked! I downloaded the free installer. I followed the steps you shown in the video above but when I click on finish nothing happens. I'm starting to think the finish button is disabled from exporting to the free installer am I right?
