It was a simple case of the pilot coming in to fast for the high temperatures in the tropics and when he realized he had no more power left he was helpless and could do nothing to prevent this accident. So yes it is pilot error. You cannot change the laws of physics It was a low sea state and Blackhawks land in a higher sea state than that with no problems. This was a very sad day.
For all of you bashing the pilots for landing so hard, remember the ship is going up and down with the ocean waves so that means the landing platform is going up and down with the ship... Which means that the ship will rise on a wave and smack the helicopter or just as the heli is about to touch down the ship will drop to a lower part of the wave putting distance between the ship and helicopter... Remember some of the waves they deal with are 50 feet high... Its wasnt pilot error...

I don't think there was any mechanical failure. If my memory serves right it was a fairly crack pilot that was often chosen by the SAS as he could fly the UH-60 right on the knife edge. Hey fucktard tommytom, America didn't invade Iraq for weapons of mass destruction. They invaded to take the dumbasses out of their government that were tearing the country apart. President Monroe of the great United States made a doctrine about 100 years ago stating that the U.S. is officially the "International Police Force", fighting against anyone that wishes to destroy the goodness in the world. No that wouldnt be the case at all. They were practising SAS insertion, not a regular ship landing. Aircraft dont land on ships at that angle.

The sea is not always stable, so landing a helicopter on a moving and bumbing ship is not easy, not to tell the wind is very strong also.

I don't think there was any mechanical failure. If my memory serves right it was a fairly crack pilot that was often chosen by the SAS as he could fly the UH-60 right on the knife edge. I hink in this case the temperature was a bit hot and he came in too fast and over pitched. I haven't heard what the offical report said but would like to read it if anyone has a link?
