We don't know the road speed limit and as other people have commented the car was not doing a U-turn and was not signalling. I suspect, going by the angle, that the car was not turning off the highway but was in fact moving out to pass a stationary vehicle (a moving vehicle would have shown). That would mean the car driver is wrong for observation and signalling, and the (fast) biker wrong for lack of awareness/observation. As bikers we have to be defensive and 100% aware.

Considering the travel speed from the cars before the crash it does seem that the bike was traveling much faster. Regardless the car should have not made the maneuver but if the rider was going the limit he could have seen this coming and reacted.

The car is in the far right lane, and the motorcycle in the lane to the left of that trying to pass the car. The car simply suddenly pulls out in front of the motor cycle. Daughter's best friends brother had the same thing happen to him (he was on the motorcycle) he was killed instantly. The elderly woman who hit him, had no idea that she did. Poor kid was only in his early 20's and had everything to live for!

We don't know the road speed limit and as other people have commented the car was not doing a U-turn and was not signalling. I suspect, going by the angle, that the car was not turning off the highway but was in fact moving out to pass a stationary vehicle (a moving vehicle would have shown). That would mean the car driver is wrong for observation and signalling, and the (fast) biker wrong for lack of awareness/observation. As bikers we have to be defensive and 100% aware.

@op3l Was probably never even ticketed for the illegal uturn. The laws favor the cage driver instead of the biker since it is still mostly a hobby for the majority of the USA. I say USA because in other parts of the world, a bike is cheaper more efficient transportation so it is seen as that TRANSPORTATION.

Considering the travel speed from the cars before the crash it does seem that the bike was traveling much faster. Regardless the car should have not made the maneuver but if the rider was going the limit he could have seen this coming and reacted.

You folks aren't very observant. It doesn't matter if the motorcycle was speeding or not, thats not the point. If you look carefully you can see that they're not even in the same lane. The car is in the far right lane, and the motorcycle in the lane to the left of that trying to pass the car. The car simply suddenly pulls out in front of the motor cycle. It was the car driver's fault.

Not saying that this wasn't the car's fault, simply for trying to turn left from the right lane. But for those that think the motorcycle isn't speeding, I would have to disagree. The bike is actually going twice the speed of a car from opposing traffic, before the collision. Still, fortunate for the guy to get up right away.

@DevilishFungus Typically roads with different opposing speeds tend to happen in a large road with a school on the street, but only if the road is wide enough. The side with the school gets 25 while the other gets about 35. Doesn't look like the case in this video tho..

I geuss if the street has at least a fenced median, where the school kids couldn't cross it, this can make sense..However, if there is nothing preventing a kid to jaywalk across, no matter how wide the street is, it should still be 25 mph on both sides(when children present)....And Yes, this does not seem to be the case here....Do you know of any other instances where a street could have different opposing speed limits?..exluding construction
