  • ...also, a nearly impossible song to do at Karaoke. Because no host has 3 microphones, for a spoken-word male, a female black soul-singer and a female opera-singer. Usually the male gets bored waiting for his turn, gets drunk, decides the opera-singer is too fat and tries to hit on the black girl so it's a big mess before it's even their turn to sing.

  • Sometimes I'm almost embarrassed that my musical passport says "Musical awareness born in the '80's. Kick-ass music, but music videos with the most incredible thematic fuck-ups.

  • Hey There. Do you know if there is an instrumental version of this song and how to get it? Please and Thank You!

  • great song, great lyrics :)

  • WHAT A GREAT SONG,IAM SO PROUD OF BEING APART OF THE 80S,

  • Like the uploader commented, light Years ahead of his time

  • Malcolm cant see the notes, and we all know the legend.

  • Heavenly!

  • The 80's had such wonderful music. This song still gives me shivers after almost 30 years or whatever its been.

I wasn't a huge fan of the other stuff I heard of his (which admittedly was limited) but THIS song will live with me till I die...

    Beautiful...

  • I still remember my first club experience at Bumpers, a suburban Vancouver, Canada club circa 1983/84. The girls were gliding to Madame Butterfly wearing pencil thin long skirts, off the shoulder blouses, powdered white faces, and smoking More 100's cigarettes. I was in heaven at first glimpse, and promptly devoted a good part of my life in the 80's and 90's to the night club experience. Those days are long gone, and will never be repeated by todays modern society. Thank you Malcolm.

  • r.i.p. u effn were the truth, and thank you for your cotribution to hip hop

  • Totally tubular to the max!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • RIP Mr M.

  • Fabulous! Thanks for posting. Anyone know who the artists are?

  • @Jacy7100 the female vocal is neneh Cherry, but I have no idea about the soprano

  • @Jacy7100 the female vocal is neneh Cherry, but I have no idea about the soprano, the male is MM himself I think

  • Nope, not Neneh Cherry - it's Debbie Cole. The soprano is Betty Ann White.

  • Havnt heard this in a long long time. Tuned my mobile fone onto radio stations n on it came.. gave me goosebumps then n does today..Had to come find it.. nice quiality upload!!!!!.. And yes May he R.i.P taken way to soon. :(

  • a legend

  • This entire album, Fans, broke the rules and is as hip now as it was when I first heard it.

  • Does anyone know if the video was produced by Terence Donovan? It looks very much like his work.

  • Who's the girl singing the lead vocals, just can't place her voice.

  • This one is soooo great!!

  • One of the best ever in my humble opinion - used to listen to this on an open topped bus nite after nite on my way to an older woman....!

  • Respect for Malcolm McLaren - R.I.P.

  • I remember seeing this video for the first time in 1983 in one of Chicago's FIRST video bars, Berlin *it's still there*. I immediately fell in love w.the vid and the beautiful models and the music. A friend of mine later recorded the cassette for me (cassettes - anyone remember those?) and I played it for another friend of mine who was visiting from California. Instantly he fell in love with the music. Interesting because later he traveled to Japan and had a mistress there. true!

  • In 1984 when this song came out in the UK, I was about to leave home and goto university. This song will always remind me of that time of my life. RIP Malcolm McClaren.

  • Comment removed

  • i love this song .....and i hadnt even sen the video till 15 years later

love this song......loved it when it came out, never seen the video till 15 years later...loved the song when it came out and allways will !!...

  • RIP Malcolm. Thank you for sharing your very obvious talents with us.

  • LOVE THE SONG ,VIDEO AND MALCOM. thank you for giving us something to remember you and are past.

  • why is there always a suggestion video of Lady Ga Ga between these great artists...she doesn't fit the quality and style of this artist...so youtube...stop the promotion( money matters).. and think art and quality...you will be lasting a long lifetime!!! RIP Malcolm

  • @sldorhout new kid on the block haha;-)

  • Can't some artist recover this song today. Its a Great song from a Great artist Malcolm McLaren was. He deserves it to be lived whit his songs forever.

  • Magnum Opus Mal.. RIP sweetheart <3

  • doesn't anyone knows you can turn off the notes just by clicking on the kinda "text box" icon aside to the "quality selection" icon... IDIOTS!!!

  • Rest in Peace Malcolm.................

  • This album is wonderful! An absolute favorite of mine.. Of the 80's.. a time of pretty good music.. this and Brian Ferry's masterpieces come to mind.... God speed Malcolm and thank you!

  • How can we stand a chance of sharing great music anymore - youtube blocks them all, record producers won't release songs because there isn't (they think) enough of a market for them and no music program ever plays them. We are screwed.

  • Simply, magnifica

  • I loved this from the very first time I ever heard it back in the early Summer of 84.I can

remember my Mates laughing at me over it,however not one of the bastards had an

ounce of sense or taste. The triumph and arrogance of youth I miss it oh so much.A

good job I can overdose on nostalgia with You Tube.

  • RIP Malcolm you ol' devil you!

  • love this song M Maclaren way way ahead of his time, such a haunting melody

  • Out of respect to Malcolm keep the notes - people still don't know about this agent provocateur of contemporary culture

  • Not heard this for ages. I was not a fan of McLaren but loved this song and agree with the comments below; he was before his time. Listening to this the first time got me interested in opera and noe I'm a huge Puccini fan(thanks Malc). What was it, 10 years later, opera became the big fashion thing to like during Italy 90 World Cup. Have to say mcLaren was before his time. Cheers dude and RIP

  • Please, get rid of the notes.

  • @whitekuduone Please go somewhere else. The notes are here to respect Malcolm.

  • @TranceOnJeroen2 - the genius of the guy (RIP) speaks from his music and art. not from notes. please understand I'm not hating on you, (thnx for the upload) just that the notes prevent me from watching a part of the video. cheers ^__^

  • @whitekuduone

the notes are what make this video unique...they are a tribute to a great "manipulator" of past Art with a personal genius touch... Connoisseurs like you might cry : " heresy" but I am sure many people have discovered and started to love Opera trough McLaren...

and few others have discovered Mclaren and Opera thanks to this video..

  • @whitekuduone agreed please KEEP THE NOTES ON , HE WAS A LEDGEND

  • @petuniamighty notes are now hidden at the beginning of the video..they will appear as soon as your cursor is pointed on the video.

  • @petuniamighty hey, no disrespect but to ME he still his a legend ;)

  • I was only 11 when this came out, but it turned me on to punk, opera and history all at the same time. Thank you, Mr McLaren, for expanding my mind. I'm a momma of 3 little girls now who love Hannah Montana, Lady Gaga, and this song.

  • Cant... see... shit.... notes BAD... NEVER use notes... post them in the description.

  • thanks, great quality upload but please can we get rid of the notes, it really does spoil the view - we have that info in a thousand other places

  • @xposeur Not all people do know that Malcolm is dead. It's a short summary of his live and show my respect. The notes are added were the video is almost totally blank.

  • @TranceOnJeroen2 Thank you! I, for one, did not now. Truly sad! :-(

And for the people who don't want to see the notes, stop acting helpless and turn the Annotations off yourself!

  • @anyone who hates the notes: click "remove annotations" - that speech balloon at the bottom. the notes disappear.

  • @TranceOnJeroen2 I don't know how people can be so rude. I thank u for uploading this. You are right that the notes are not disturbing anything at the video start in white secene.

  • @xposeur The only reason I know he's dead is because I was watching this video. McLaren was awesome.

  • mega one of my favourites all time!r.i.p.

  • I love this song so much. It is so soothing. When I found out he was dead, I was so sad.

  • Great song....listen to it all the time still! Does anyone know who the girl is that sings it?

  • The video is pretty wankish... but malcolm was our favourite vulture.

the 'gift of the gab', a truant, a drug, a seducer/destroyer, a brightly burning match... ready to start fires.

From Argentina, and a son of punk, I salute you.

  • I remember this...Beautiful,sensual and a 'lil melancholic. Awesome...RIP Malcolm.

  • Awesome tune RIP Malcolm.. This girl has one sexy voice man!!! has it been sampled on a rave tune yet cause would sound amazing

  • rest in peace malcolm...you have paid your debt to society...

  • always knew he was ahead of his time...r.i.p. malcom, turn it up to 11 for ya',,,,cya on the flipside...

  • I KNOW!!! PIMMETJE FROM HILLEGOM!

  • I was just dreaming and this song was playing in the background in the dream. What does that mean?.

  • It was great to see all of Malcolm McLaren's music clips in a row on the RAGE tribute to him recently. I wish they would release a Greatest Hits CD of the 12" versions. Thanks for posting, this is superb. Robbie.

  • great comment redredreds.....This was so far ahead of its time...

  • miss u .......genius

  • RIP this song means a lot to me on 3" CD

  • RIP.. a pure genius of real music.. nuff said..

  • Never seen the whole video as 2 young 2 remember the video, but soon as i heard this song, fell in love with it and couldnt stop playing it on my 'philips cassette player!!' McLaren brought the combination of opera, pop, and rap when others thought it was impossible in those days! Who would have thought his music would still live 25 yrs on??

Thanks for uploading this song and HD quality sound and picture...technology's changed since the 80's but the music's still 'timeless'...RIP McLaren xx

  • There IS something 'sensual, erotic and beautiful' about this track!

He was the ORIGINAL music producer who made 'quality music', unlike the likes of Pete Waterman or Mr Cowell, who have ruined british popular-music!! ;((

Long live Malcom McLaren and his music! :o)

  • so fresh, so modern. and 25years old.

  • I don't really like the video but the song is brilliant-I cannot believe he is dead-lucky bastard! Why so many misspellings in the lower paragraph? How about the Sex Pistols connection?

  • Damn i never knew this till i seen your share jeroen,he was a typical mad eccentric british genius ..sad loss thanks for your tribute mate !!

  • A great loss indeed

  • Never heard of him, but his music sounds good

  • He's just saying pleasures of the flesh as a road to enlightenment is a dead-end street..

  • McClaren released an album with this track on it, cant recall its title but its way ahead of its time , even today ! RIP malcolm

  • @longjon42uk Don't forget to credit Stephen Hague. Without him it would have never sounded so great and brilliant. He wrote it too.

  • @longjon42uk fans album rip malcom

  • So sad to see him die, a man who was SO ahead of his time. I've just played this to my partner who assumed it was released in the early 90s. This was 1984.

  • Fantastic song. Great tribute.*****

  • Lydon on Malcolm McLaren "For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and i will miss him, and so should you"

  • THE KING of punk is dead.dress the angels with zips pins and whatever you like..goodbye to genius

  • @vinyllicker dress angels with zips, great comment, I was a punk from London back then, life was wild, and great, never thought McLaren would be 64. I'm thanking god, for allowing me to be born when I was, and experiencing such a great era, pistols, clash, siouxie sue and the rest

  • @vinyllicker Oh, man. I just found out, Malcie's gone! You're not kiddin. Now, for sure, we know, there will definitely be a party in the afterlife! I saw this production live, all those years ago , here, in San Francisco. What a true genius, for sure..RIP, Malcolm...

  • R.I.P Malcom Mc Laren

  • He was and always will be regarded ,amongst those who appreciate music, as a genius. This track amongst his many, proves that. It takes someone with special talent to be able to change popular culture and that he certainly did. RIP Malcolm, you will be missed.
