Tim Duncan is the greatest big man in the history of the game itself. he's not phased by the pressure. he wants to help his teammates win rings, he's not conceited like LeBron James who want to win rings for themselves.
this is definitely a set play. down by 3 with the clock running down, Pop would have set a 3pt play. I think this was a genius play as nobody was expecting it. To answer why this was 1st 3 was that because they never really run plays like this for him. and why would they? he could do it but that is not his strength. duncan knows and understands that. but if needed he can step up and do it.
This was the greatest game I've ever seen in the NBA. Both teams played amazing and both deserved to win, I was just happy the Spurs were that team. All respect to the Suns though for fighting tooth and nail.
@nickyauyeung@nickyauyeung manu or tony or other 3 point shooters would be expected to take that shot so it was set for tim duncan i mean do you really think tim duncan would be behind the 3 point line for no reason? he is one of the greatest pfs ever offence and defence
@kixmgc Duncan stood outside the 3 point line because it's a set play for Manu to drive the basket, if he was in there, he would be in the way of Ginobili. I agree he is the greatest PF in the history of the game, best play post-jordan.
@kixmgc Oh really, Tim Duncan as taken 4 3pt attempts all season, missing all of them. Then in a crucial PLAYOFF game, Greg Pops, would draw a play for Tim Duncan to take a 3... Timmy made the 3 but it was not a set play. Manu's natural instincts when double teamed is to get it to the open man.
@Scotts30StrikesBack LOL been watching basketball since 1999, that's a good 12 years now, you think I wouldn't know what the greatest PF in the history of the game is capable of? If he was good at 3s then why would this shot be the 1st 3pt made of his season? The Spurs are a good, very experienced team and deserved every bit of their success but to think this is a set play is an insult to Pops. Think again.
@nickyauyeung truth is if you look up Tim Duncan three point contest you will see that he is a decent shooter at the top of the key which is where he was standing if you noticed when ginobili had the ball with seconds on the clock Duncan did the tallest man on the court did not move in to help either get ally oop rebound or anything instead he just stood there waiting a pass if you were the coach where would you want your big man probrably under the rim kicking the rebound out for another shot
@nickyauyeung if you look at the play i think its genious no one on the spurs team moved at all leaving the other players double teaming ginobili no would gaurd duncan that far from the rim if you knew the guy could actually shoot from that spot you would have at least put a hand in his face but and why wasn't anybody else even trying to get open unless this is a set play
@KINGxQUIKxSCOPE actually i take that back he was already moving his left foot before he caught the ball not after so he is allowed to pivot with his right
Yes this was one of the best season. I was shocked when tim was shooting a 3pt it was like it happen in slow motion at the time. But now when you look at it well it seem easy to him lol
That season was the All-star weekend shooting stars challenge when San Antonio killed it and Timmy hit his 3s and halfcourt shot with ease. Ever since then I was calling for a Timmy pick and pop 3 for the game in whenever Spurs games came down to the wire. As I was watching this play this play unfold I couldn't believe my eyes, jumpin and screaming with Timmy postin out at the 3. This play and the 2004 shot over shaq, two of the happiest moments of my life. My hero, and the face of SA town!SPURS
@GiacShabadoo I'd say it's between Timmy, Shaq and Kobe....Im just saying, it's EXTREMELY difficult to pin point which one of the 3 deserves it the most, because they've all had MASSIVE impacts on the game.
But anyway, Duncan is such a class act. Gonna be a great day when he gets into the HOF.
@TheLester52 The reason why shaq followed Manu was because he didn't want Manu to get open for free and when Manu started to attac the paint shaq was to far out to close out on duncan.
@Pouma94 but still if manu got open, then that would be a 2 pointer, which wouldn't tie the game.. And Phx will just try to drible out 4 secs on the shot clock.. But thanks for responding
dang i bet the fans and players were like we lost but he made it..... look at 40.0 he was like hell ya do misunderestimate me i can shoot it from out there.
this should be one of those "Where will amazing happen this year?" commercials if it isnt one already... tim duncan making a 3? one of the greatest moments for a spurs fan
@Salibs maybe cuz it'd be too obvious to give it to someone like Ginobli...they were double teaming him so they were expecting it...but would you expect from duncun?
@aThanat0s How is he a center? He is a Pf/C. Power forward first cuz Centers cants shoot fadeaway shots, centers cant shot bank shots from 16 feet, centers dont have the dribbling skills Tim had when he was younger. Big daddy Shaq and The Admiral David Robinson, now those are Centers.
i will miss those epic battles between the spurs and suns and the spurs and mavs. all teams are aging and are rebuilding. but the new era teams will NEVER be the old school teams. GO BULLZ!
Gather steps? No such thing. When you catch the ball, your position is set until you dribble. You can not gain ground with anything but your pivot foot or dribble in that situation. He walked, man, it was a travel. Had he caught the ball in motion (1 foot on the ground) he could've taken two steps in a drive toward the bucket, for example. You ever played a refereed game of ball? You can't just walk or run with the basketball, you twat. Timmy traveled.
People don't call it or care anymore because people by go street and NBA rules. The game's been ruined by people who can't play basketball without following the rules.
@mattascular Whether it was a travel or not the shot was still amazing refs don't call a lot of minor things in the guts of the game and those were some small steps. So whether it shouldn't of counted because it was a travel or whatever just stop, because it wasn't called get over it. Don't try and take away from the fact that it was a great shot.
@mattascular If you see carefully Timmy lifts his left foot before he receives the ball, so that makes his left foot a pivot. It is okay to lift your right foot as long as you don't lift your pivot foot.
@mattascular No he did not actually, it is hard to notice, but if you look at the slow mo and up close camera shot of Timmy, he is in motion. Just before he caught the ball he was moving his left foot forward which means his left foot when the ball is caught is his established pivot foot. Between 32-34 seconds because of the camera angle it is hard to tell but his left foot is moving forward...just barely but enough to not be a travel. Thus when he moved his right foot forward it was ok
i love the spurs but you're down 3 and you let tim duncan shoot a 3 when you got robert horry on your bench.... lol i love greg poppovich he has balls
spoken like a true laker fan. he travelled? just like fisher didn't get the 0.4 shot off in time which is physically impossible mind you....or he didn't flop on brent barry in '08 and have the NBA come out and say they made a mistake right??? Man LA fans come on show some class! yeah you've won a lot of titles but you forget we own you in this decade! don't hate timmy for being great, hate him because you can't beat him without the refs....chump.
@lakers2416yea unfortunately he did travel Explanation he moved his left foot when he got it, then he moved his right foot without dribbling so yes that was a travel 0:34-0:36 u see it zoomed in a little better
@calugcug21 I know in high school and college, that would have been a travel. when he moved his left foot, he established his pivot foot as his right foot. once he lifted the right foot, he switched pivot foots, and by rule that is a travel. here's the official rule... NBA Official Rules (2009-2010) Rule 10, Section XIII —Traveling: d. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor.
@88cjd88 Are you kidding me, if you watch college b'ball today that is the standard. Catching the ball while picking up/setting your initial foot is allowed, then your second foot, whether it was pre-set or not is allowed to be picked up whenever. JJ did it, Rautins did it, all the 3 point shooters do it. Cleanest & best first rd series in the last 5 years!!!
It's a travel because he didn't dribble the ball. If it had been a layup or jump-stop, it would've ruled differently, and I'm not sure why. He traveled in high-school and college rules. The NBA gives 3 steps though.. :p
DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'M A HARDCORE SPURS FAN!
Born 'n raised in San Antonio! It's just.. Timmy traveled, and no one cared. xD! :D
@mattascular how 2 steps is A TRAVEL Motherfucking idiot they are called gather steps timmy walked and did gather steps KNOW YOUR FUCKING BASKETBALL BITCH
@ttothectothek The step he takes when he's catching the ball isn't classed as an offical step. It's his 'gather'. So his left foot is his pivot when he puts it down.
i remember watching this... probably my biggest upset was seeing him hitting that 3, how many 3s does duncan have? no wonder no one was on him that far back. no one expected that. i literally walked out of the room with my face in my hands, i could hear the neighbors raging. THIS is the suns team i remember, i like to think that we COULD have done it that year.
i feel bad because tim duncan and the spurs are the most underrated team in championships wise. what i mean is that they won 4 champion ships (2-3) in the thousands and they mostly talk about the lakers and celtics going at it
All I hear in the crowd is; ddlelqpfjsjyjkynfwnrhbtb h Reggie Herbertybgbrbtbfbtngnybrbgv g f tykestjtnnynytyn penis jeisoowjdbkdbeoopqkeheihdlskoeirjdifjoxiskwl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spoken like a true laker fan. he travelled? just like fisher didn't get the 0.4 shot off in time which is physically impossible mind you....or he didn't flop on brent barry in '08 and have the NBA come out and say they made a mistake right??? Man LA fans come on show some class! yeah you've won a lot of titles but you forget we own you in this decade! don't hate timmy for being great, hate him because you can't beat him without the refs....chump.

lakers2416yea 1 year ago
@lakers2416yea unfortunately he did travel Explanation he moved his left foot when he got it, then he moved his right foot without dribbling so yes that was a travel 0:34-0:36 u see it zoomed in a little better

calugcug21 11 months ago
@calugcug21 I know in high school and college, that would have been a travel. when he moved his left foot, he established his pivot foot as his right foot. once he lifted the right foot, he switched pivot foots, and by rule that is a travel. here's the official rule... NBA Official Rules (2009-2010) Rule 10, Section XIII —Traveling: d. If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor.
88cjd88 11 months ago
@88cjd88 Are you kidding me, if you watch college b'ball today that is the standard. Catching the ball while picking up/setting your initial foot is allowed, then your second foot, whether it was pre-set or not is allowed to be picked up whenever. JJ did it, Rautins did it, all the 3 point shooters do it. Cleanest & best first rd series in the last 5 years!!!

@calugcug21

JHAYTOT1 10 months ago
@calugcug21 on a layup u can but he picked up his pivot foot, not hating, i love tim but it was
ttothectothek 7 months ago
@ttothectothek The step he takes when he's catching the ball isn't classed as an offical step. It's his 'gather'. So his left foot is his pivot when he puts it down.
TheOneTrueSniper00 7 months ago
@TheOneTrueSniper00 r u sure? cuz ive been called a travel for that and it would seem like one because he left his pivot foot
ttothectothek 7 months ago
@ttothectothek Yeah if you look his foot is in the air when he catches the ball. So it isn't a 'step'. They're sometimes incorrectly called travels,

bigtree216 1 year ago
what a disappointing moment for shaq and the suns especially since it was duncan who made the shot.
hanj31 1 year ago
i remember watching this... probably my biggest upset was seeing him hitting that 3, how many 3s does duncan have? no wonder no one was on him that far back. no one expected that. i literally walked out of the room with my face in my hands, i could hear the neighbors raging. THIS is the suns team i remember, i like to think that we COULD have done it that year.
2KBananaPeels 1 year ago
i feel bad because tim duncan and the spurs are the most underrated team in championships wise. what i mean is that they won 4 champion ships (2-3) in the thousands and they mostly talk about the lakers and celtics going at it
