That way the enemy would be confused and wouldn't understand from where exactly the bullets are coming from. We can just hurry up and end the war.

@scrillah81 Theres a few different sounds behind a gunshot: Action noise required to ignite the round, Muzzle blast, Sonic signature of the projectile in flight, Action noise in some firearm variants as the spent round is discharged and a fresh round reloaded, and Impact noise. Suppressors reduce the sound of a gunshot, but it's not by very much and only the muzzle blast. There are "Silent guns" out there (google is your friend), but they're still very classified and in early development.

@themeleed Suppressors actually do reduce the sound of a gun by a LOT. Of course if you're standing right next to the gun, you can hear it. But when you're a little distance away like 20 meters it's really hard to hear and it sounds like a twig cracking. (how do i know this? shooting range) When you're in a warzone when gunshots are sporadically going on in the distance, a silencer would be an extreme advantage against immediate enemies.
