If there's any doubt left that they couldn't play, this should end that. Not only is he drumming great, but he's singing flawlessly as well. It's tough to imagine top session drummers being able to pull off drumming and singing as well as Micky does.
@robeast9009 I so totally agree!! I was 19 during their 20th Anniversary tour and it was so exciting!! Nothing compares to the excitement of those days!
He was almost able to add Frank Zappa collaborator to the list. Zappa, who was once an Inland resident, as well as a fan of "The Monkees" and had appeared on the show, called up Dolenz and asked him to be the drummer for Zappa's band The Mothers of Invention after The Monkees' ended.
Dolenz called his record company and was unable to get out of his contract to join the band, he said.
@liontone I subconsciously saw that. I thought, what if he dropped a stick. You were right. He did. He grabs another fast! The ride cymbal kinda hides it. He's really quite good IMO.
Drummers almost always have a couple spares around. I even saw Buddy Rich lose one on Johnny Carson. While doing a one handed left hand roll, he calmly reached around and got his spare.
I love this guy.. I met him in 2001 and I was crying like an idiot and he stopped for a photo op and he touched my hair and said "Thanks for Coming Hon.." I sat in my wheelchair feeling happy and sad at the same time... Pete was just as nice too.... Awesome...
I'm really impressed with the quality of this clip. I searched high and low for one that's actually clear enough to enjoy, and this was the first one I found! Thanks for sharing it:)

The Monkees had talent, just not given credit.
