The number of bodies counted in Dresden until March 22. was 202040 according to the head of police in Dresden (Tagesbefehl Nr. 47 dated March 22., 1945).
Oberst der Schutzpolizei Grosse wrote in the same document that he calculated the number of deaths to increase to 250000.
I can't see that colonel Grosse got any reason whatsoever to falsefy his report.
"Bis zum 20.3.45 abends wurden 202 040Ø Tote, überwiegend Frauen und Kinder geborgen. Es ist damit zu rechnen, da* die Zahl auf 250 000 Tote ansteigen wird. Von den Toten konnten nur annähernd 30% identifiziert werden."
The death toll was corrected from over two millions to 202 040.

The number of bodies counted in Dresden until March 22. was 202040 according to the head of police in Dresden (Tagesbefehl Nr. 47 dated March 22., 1945).
Oberst der Schutzpolizei Grosse wrote in the same document that he calculated the number of deaths to increase to 250000.
I can't see that colonel Grosse got any reason whatsoever to falsefy his report.
