  • thats beauiful!

  • Is anyone working on like a motion sensitive 3d computer so you could hold up a finger to one of the 3d icons and hold it there for a few seconds to click like in the matrix? Anyone else think that's a cool idea? If so tell someone else to do it because I'm way to lazy.

  • I cannot believe this was 2007! It just shows how much technology is just lying around because companies don't think they'll make enough money unless they sell tons of cheap crap (which unfortunately is probably true.)

I wonder what kind of technology is just sitting on the shelf today?

  • @dragonking700 Yeah, I like TED talks, but they tend to piss me off and come across as rich-kid e-peen demo's from time to time...

  • This would be nice as long as you could use conventional peripherals.

  • @TommyXTong ...

  • I think its because 3D is just a cool buzz word right now :)

  • Hi ted

  • how the fuck is this 3d computer interface? ....u fucking retard

  • I love watching the TED convention videos. Always such inspiring stuff found there.

  • RTS games are gonna be epic!!!!

  • @SpunkMaster3000 no, he formed a penis with the lava...

  • @blade00362

    a big penis T_T Gigant T_T im Traumatized :(

  • Amazing how just four years ago we were astounded by this technology, now it comes almost as standard on mid range handheld devices.

  • The real question is how will the interface "intuitively" know what your typing? i can imagine quite a few things one would type that could be serious problems if you system mistakes one word for another similar to how annoying a lot of "auto-complete" features can be. take a look at 2600's list of google blacklisted words! ;')

  • No matter what you design; it will always be a descendant of Tactile 3d dot com

  • Don't miss puppeteering @7:30 or world wind @6:50

  • Wait I don't understand how is this a 3D Interface?

the only thing 3D is the globe in google earth

    everything else is 2D tweening

  • @skotiFD I agree with you. I think its because 3D is just a cool buzz word right now :)

  • WOOOOW...Dumb!!

  • @chopz601 this was 4 years ago that was amazing then

  • big ass ipod touch

  • I don't get it... what's the new thing?

  • @grgcucu this was in 2007

  • @Seige0010 i thought it was 2006 00:37

  • @Seige0010 Actually it was in 2006. It was just uploaded in '07

  • why was it funny wen he was playin with lava lamp?

  • @Catchpole5522

they were laughing because they were amazed. It's easy to forget how amazing this would have seemed a few years ago and i think it gives an insight into just how quickly we get used to new tech.

  • Nice :)

  • wow added feb 10 2007! what do they have now?

  • @DimsMUXAXA

    would love to know too!!!!

  • dude the next time u hypercam someone elses video can u pls link to theirs or add a song so its entertaining or something

  • Remember I was here. Thai

  • i want a computer like that! XD

  • he's smart!

  • What does the shape mean? it looks like a ghost with his hands up and huge dick...

  • @thegoodhen I think it was meant to be that hard rock sign that people make with their hand, like the thumb, index, and pinkie fingers.

  • What a waste. It might be useful for certain specialized applications, but I wouldn't want that as an interface for a pc.

  • If i wanted to study this sort of thing at college/university. . . .what would the course come under? it looks really interesting :)

  • Computer Science or Computer Engineering would be the course your looking for. Its what i am in, and you will learn everything from scratch about Hardware, Software, C++ and User Interfacing

  • u can make one of these with a projector and a webcam. i can't see this being used productively. kinda like i never see anyone doing actual work on an iphone. it's not intuitive, it's a toy.

  • This is, I predict, what the new, upcoming Apple Tablet (iSlate) will do. That would be incredible! :)

  • ..*facepalm*

  • this stuff is crazy hopefully in college i want to learn computer science...

  • that guy is fucking hyper...

  • i want one!!!!

    where do i get it!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Useless for my applications. Nice for kids to play around with, but how can I write a program or a script using this technology? Not helpful to me at all.

  • I'm sure when they release it, you'll be able to do a lot more, or I hope.

  • @dvamateur there still working on it there going to make it for people like you.

  • Look at when this was posted, was big back then

  • guess he ment our technology

  • Technology wise...wow that flew over your head.

  • @ kostarae

He didn't mean it literally. You're a complete idiot.

  • so, that was happening in 2007...

    its amazing how we evolve

  • where can i buy one :D

  • apple didn't invent the touchscreen!

  • o rly?

  • @fairyheli2 lol what idiot said that

  • @fairyheli2 apple didn't invented it ! but he reinvented it!

  • @fairyheli2 who said they did ?

  • yeah, why not use a big-ass expensive digital table to move photos around and have a closer look at them? -_-

i mean this thing is kewl and opens a lot of possibilities, but the presentation FAILS!

  • the funny thing is this was posted 3 years ago and its already a major technology used

  • This is very fascinating. I've been wondering when i could use my fingers on a screen rather than keys.

  • Man the guy is stuttering like hell lol, but the Screen thing is awesome

  • You can do this in Windows 7 if you have a touchscreen.

  • He was either really nervous or exited still pretty cool =P

  • Too much work for me

  • in "the day the earth stood still" they use this technology in one of the scenes in which the us defence ministre talks to the scientists...

  • they used Microsoft surface, I looked it up

  • How exactly is this 3D?

  • The pixels can me moved scaled or rotated. So that is three transformations in multiple axis.

  • lucky he doesn´t pee in his pant´s cause of exitement...

  • Finally. This is the direction that interfaces should be going in. I doubt this will completely supplant the mouse and keyboard, but there is some serious potential in the multitouch interface. The demonstration with the map showed that perfectly. This should help the economy too, as Windex sales are likely to skyrocket when this technology becomes popular.

  • not good for the gaming industry tho. well atleast first person shooters.

  • yeah i dont really think this will change how we use our personal computers but with kiosks and other businesses it will be great, it would be really fun to have, the hp touchsmart pc is definitely stemmed from this

  • cool butthead hehehe

  • niiice...

  • ->iPhone

  • its 2D, not 3D

  • WOW

  • hey does this remind any one of minority report? lol

  • the technology is here now :D

there are holographic displays and even video screens popping up, the stuff of science fiction starting to happen now

  • hahaha can you believe were in a time now where buttons are now obsolete? but you know the whole concept of the button is centuries old..

  • This would be reeeeally good for animators...being able to actually use their hands to control the movements of the model.

  • i dont really like touch interfaces because they are not nearly as precise as a mouse

  • iPhone indeed.

  • lawl, thats surface

  • We'd get no work done!

  • and the iphone came

  • this is for specific aplicatoin but still cool

  • this'd look cool in my virtualsphere

  • Whats wrong with a keyboard and mouse?

  • what was wrong with the steam engine? or the oil lamp? :D

  • @brandon9271 They required steam and oil

  • @fowlkenz my statement was in reply to "what's wrong with the keyboard and mouse?" =)

  • why do people who demonstrate technology always have that annoying tone of voice, i just want to kick him in the bollox

  • LOL

  • It's a Happy Hacking keyboard! Whoo!

  • ths is coolasssht! (:

  • Didnt Microsoft adopt something exactly like this....

  • Why would I want something where I have to move my hands so much? Why not just use a mouse where I barely have to move 1 wrist?

  • Because it opens a hell of a lot more options and possebilities... Think of an 3D userinterfase for example

  • And because most people want something a bit more interactive. Don't you think the mouse and keyboard are getting old and we need something new? Personally I think it's a great concept

  • this is basically a kiosk operating system where people have to use a UI in a very short amount of time, not enough time to learn. Might be good for purchasing items very quickly. e.g. drag the amount of apples you want into the basket. But this is not a UI for everyday office work.

  • I want one! Yes this is what it should and will be! My appreciations to all the technicians and innovators. Thank you from all of us.

  • "google should have something like this in their lobby" :-)

  • i hate when somebody touches my screen, full with greasy fingerprints... so for me its not a good idea :))

  • I'm pretty sure the iPhone doesn't register more than 2 points of contact. True multi touch accepts multiple points, from multiple users. Jeff Han is the founder of Perceptive pixel, and is a freaking genius.

  • wow. i wish i could work with him. :P

  • welcome 2 teh future!!

    i need it - NOW!

  • lmfao!

  • in some year that will replace the blackboard at the school :)

  • We already have SMARTBoards. They are touch screens. But they aren't advanced as this nor do they look as good.

  • SMARTBoards also have a much lower resolution-- what this means is basically you are left with less accurate responses, like trying to draw a straight line and getting a linear squiggle instead. Multi-touch is coming into use now, two years after this speech, but it still has a lot of potential to grow.

  • lol !!! not old news !!! i phone buy the right to him to use his technologie for there Iphone

  • ehh.. lock on the fakts.. they didn't buy the rights to use them.. They bought the FingerWorks and tok the rights to multi touch inn to laptops first then iPhone after..

  • Damn! Do you know how annoying it is to read letters like "u" and "c" and "b"? It makes me think that you talk with little pauses in between the words. You really ought to try to write normal English.

  • looks like "pre-minority-report" kind of technology. this thing kicks ass.

  • reminds me of the iphone in some way.

  • gret presentation

  • The one that Microsoft is releasing runs about 10k, and yes they will mainly be marketed to restaurants, malls, ect. before being released to the general public due to the cost, but I am more then sure that if you have the cash you would be able to have one in your home also...

  • there going sell this in restaurants and malls before they sell to people. I think it's cool when computer technology it is getting more advanced now of days.

  • No. This is a much cheaper per square inch solution using cameras. It's not like a traditional touchscreen.

  • yeah california rox

  • damn i want that thing it looks so frikken cool but probbably far exceeds my budget

  • Cool! how much?

  • Wow, that's awesome! I don't see why it's not outrageously popular >_>

  • wow cool stuff

  • maybe wear a short-sleeved shirt next time?

  • Apple developed it for a portable device, and did an outstanding job. The iPhone on June 29th will be the first multitouch product released to the masses.

  • Wow, this realy needs more views. this is to cool.

  • wow i thought apple made multi touch

  • awesome :O
