I actually worked at this race as a volunteer crowd control person ,
and I remember well that AUDI with its 5 cly AWD set up just shreading the trans am class during the rest of the '88 season ..... that odd turbo sound "chirping" its pop-off pressure ? I guess
@lolahavasuaz The "chipring" sound those beasts made is known a compressor back surge. The sound is the byproduct of not running a blow off valve. Benefit is you minimize boost lag as the boost pressure remains in the intake system when the drive backs off the throttle. Downside is, it kills the turbo! I am sure they didn't care about replacing the turbo every race!
Thanks for the upload! The Trans-Am was my favorite series when I was a kid, and the 80's and early 90's had such a wide variety of cars and engines. Neat to see names like Brassfield and others again.
