Great demo! I'm trading my American stratocaster for a hollowbody, and this one is making the Orange epi swingster someone offered me look pretty tantalizing. Is your classic 30 stock? (except for tubes, of course.) I have one and this could give me a good idea of what it will sound like, potentially.
darn... i just bought an epi dot studio for £220.... i wish id got one of there for £499..... but then....you are into gretsch territory for £599.... so where do ya stop ..... its an uncontrollable deire..... like my epi though....the neck is thicker than normal but i like that...plays lovely... top guitar for the £££££££
Fantastic review! Thanks for taking the time to put this together... I appreciate hearing the Swingster in the different modes that you included. Well done!
@rdrake316 Where do you live? I live in the middle of nowhere, there's 3 guitar stores near me and all of them have like 2-3 of them in there, but they don't have any gretsch.... :(
bro, grrrreat review!!! really dig the tone! do you use it live? if so, does it feed back like crazy for you? I know it will always be an issue with hb gits, but just asking.
dude youre playing is sick. How long have you been playing? Ever take lessons or anything like that? (I am at the point where I think I need to start taking lessons. Im really not interested in the guitar although its sweet.
I would greatly appreciate if someone replied to this comment. I'm thinking of getting the Epiphone Swingster Royale but I'm not completely sure just how much different it is from the original (this). I'm thinking that the only differences are that it is white with gold everything.
these seem pretty cool, looks like the emperor joe pass with the mods that everybody uses,on my joe pass I put a bigsby and gibson p94 single coils on it,this is just premodified for us ,great playing btw
@juancho182182 What are you using it for? I try not to get into this, but If you are doin rockablilly stuff go for th eswingster, but if you want a heavier sound, get the SG... I say swingster because hollow bodies tend to surprise the range of styles they can be sed for. I use a hollow body for HARDCORE punk. Lots of distortion.
i have this guitar for about 5 months now, i use it to record heavy metal tracks for my band...I know, im using a hallowed body guitar to play heavy metal, but, the sound is so unique with a heavy distortion, i loved it =D
Ii's interesting that the guitar with the jazzy name is equipped with the whammy bar, the typical rockabilly feature. Is it supposed to handle both styles equally well? Despite its name it definitely looks more like rockabilly guitar but since it's based on the Emperor JP it should be a jazzer. That's really confusing but... it looks and sounds cool!
@tdevjjd Swingster plays jazz but can't do rockabilly (sounds pretty bad, my oppinion) The G5120 plays rockabilly but can't do jazz (also blues it can do nicely yay)
i just got mine on friday, absolutely fell in love with it!wine red,go out and buy one today, sell a child or something!lol,i fear it may be above my playing ability as i only play rhythm and a bit of fingerstyle tho, trying to learn some lead now i got it,sticking at it and getting better,i'd give my left arm to be able to play like shaun here!err hang on a mo...lol,oh by the way, just kidding about the kid before i get someonethinking i;m serious!
man in a few months i am getting one in orange, man gotta say i liked this better than the 5120 i had, even with the tv jones upgrades, this guitar just stock in my opinion is just awesome and is exactly the same price as a 5120, but more versitle as shaun demos on this vid, thanks man,
@dru42or3 Im use locking tuners, and floyd rose type tremolos so im used to staying in tune. So to me it doesnt stay that well in tune. but if you dont abuse the bigsby and you dont do too many bends its pretty stable
@nspade13 To be honest, with locking tuners and a roller/locking/black GraphTech nut, most tremolos will stay in tune when they're set up right, not just a Floyd.
i'm looking at both but i think i like the sound of the gretsch better. thanks keep rocking...

This guitar is so hard to come by other than online retailers; yet there are so few reviews. So THANK YOU for this superb review.
Your playing is up their with the "pro" rockabilly daddy-O's.

I've seen your video playing the Gretsch 5120, between this one and the swingster wich one do you prefer??
I don't know witch one to buy, I'll like to play stray cats style rockabilly, but I'm open to other styles. Wich one do you think is the best?
