The PLA Navy J-15 Flying Shark is not even threat to USN F-18E/F Super Hornet Block II. I found out that the J-15 is in F-18C/D class. The F-18E/F can carry 12 air to air missiles ( 2 AIM-9X Block II & 10 AIM-120C7 AMRAAM). While the J-15 can only carry 8 missiles (4 PL-12 Sino AMRAAM & 4 PL-8 Sino Python 3). The Super Hornet pilot wear JHMCS (Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System). The J-15 pilot wear Denell Archer HMD (Helmet Mounted Display).

At them as it has appeared, just from Soviet period the pre-production model of a prototype of Su-33 was overlooked. It was called Т-10К. In 2005 that prototype has left to China. And today at Beijing it is ready like as own deck fighter J-15 similar to Su-33 as twins-brothers.

@PET3RRULEZ You obviously don't have a clue how planes are designed. What you call "exterior" as known as airframe is very complicated thing. In case of fighter it's actually one of two most complicated things to develop, where every millimeter is calculated and meticulously tested. Second thing in terms of complexity is engine, which Chinese still can't copy still. :) Find engineering articles about Su-27 development, it's very interesting story and you will not talk nonsense anymore.

Lol the air frame is tested for airflow and stuff like that. But its not tested like F22 where it have to be perfect. By the way, the airframe of J 15 or J11 is actually different by a little.

J-15 is not stealth at all!. But J-15 has much more composite material than the Russian SU-33 which has a 15M^2 RCS. J-15 has about 4M^2. Also, the current J-15 has AT LEAST equal radar and avonics as J-11B.
Put it this way. J-15 can smoke the current SU-33 in any sort of A2A comabat. This is why even when Russian aggree to upgrade SU-33 to Su-30MKK2 standard. The Chinese did not take the bid.

The Indian Su-30MKI has thrust vectoring, forward canards for increased maneuverability, a very powerful radar, and an advanced IRST system. In other words it completely outclasses the Su-27SK's and J-11's in China. The J-11A is of course a better comparison, but it still lacks thrust vectoring (albeit the J-11 should have a better thrust to weight ratio).
@nem1 You should compare it to the more recent J-11B, which is also superior to its family member (Su-27SK). I don't know which is superior compared to the Su-30MKI.
The J-11B is simply a "more chinese" J-11A. It uses Chinese avionics and weapons systems. The J-11B isnt necessarily better than the J-11A, it is simply a response to Russia no longer providing systems for Chinese planes, so China is trying to produce the parts by itself.
China hold liecence for 200 unit J-11A. It was paid in 1990's. After 95 of J-11A was finished in 2006, PLAAF choose decline the production line and turn to J-11B. If you think J-11B isn't any better than J-11A why PLAAF do not just finish the original contract? It doesn't make sense.
@nem1 Not really, it features a Chinese OBOGS, fully digitalized avionics (which replaced the analogue Russian one on the J-11A), a Chinesemodified AL-31F engine with 1.500 flight hours (compared with the original 900 flight hours of the Russian version) etc. But you're right, China is almost self-sufficient in producing their own weapons.
You are an idont. J-11B proved to have a 11-1 kill ratio over J-11A in BVR combat. To put it this way J-11A uses the old Russian junk radar can only dectect F-16 like target at 70KM, while J-11B's radar can pick up F-16 like target over 180KM. Also, J-11B's radar can track 12 targets and engage 6 targets while J-11A's radar can only track 4 and engage 2. Not to mention J-11B's radar has far better anti jamming!

China has put a lot of research in stealth technology especially in fighter jet; it won't be long that j11 a or b or whatever are just a distant memory when the new jxx come to service in the near future. And for j15, carrier type, china does not need a lot of them because China, I can assure you, is not going to build a large fleet of aircraft carriers like to the US to bankrupt itself; aircraft carrier is not invincible and costly to operate.

F-22's are still being upgraded so no the program isnt history. The only reason production was canceled is that the F-22 had no competitors and the F-35 program was deemed sufficient. The PLA Navy J-15 Flying Shark is not even threat to USN F-18E/F Super Hornet Block II. I found out that the J-15 is in F-18C/D class. The F-18E/F can carry 12 air to air missiles ( 2 AIM-9X Block II & 10 AIM-120C7 AMRAAM). While the J-15 can only carry 8 missiles (4 PL-12 Sino AMRAAM & 4 PL-8 Sino Python 3). If you know anything about military aircraft, you would know that looks itself means almost nothing.
The J-15 uses completely new Chinese-developed technology, even the engines and the RAM coating. The only non-Chinese component is the Su-33 airframe. Besides that, all the main and important components are Chinese-developed. It's pretty much a Chinese fighter in a Russian skin.

to know if it is a copy of the Su33, Su27, J11 we just need to look at the nose. the 3 planes each position their instrumentation differently, looking at the layout will tell us which plane it is based from. the Su33 also feature different wing design from the Su27, that is also another tell-tale sign of parentage.

Actually, it is based on the T-10 (Su-27K) prototype, not production standard Su-33. Sukhoi wanted to charge an arm & a leg to restart Su-33 production, & wouldn't do it unless PLAN orders 50.
After the Il-76/78 fiasco, & seeing how India got screwed over, it would be foolish for Chinese to trust the Russians in this respect.

In case of fighter it's actually one of two most complicated things to develop, where every millimeter is calculated and meticulously tested. Second thing in terms of complexity is engine, which Chinese still can't copy still. :) Find engineering articles about Su-27 development, it's very interesting story and you will not talk nonsense anymore.

1. AESA radar.
2. Advanced 21 century avonics
3. New airframe with 20% compoisite, much better stealth, lighter and more durable.
4. Powerful weapon systems, include PL-12B, and YJ-83A
5. Better engine, WS-10A offering 8% more thrust and more realiable!!

J-15 may using the same airframe as Su-33, but the inside are completly different! It was more stealth and advanced than the old Russian Su-33. Even the new MiG-29K are no match against it! J-15 are one of the best carrier based fighter aircraft in the world after the F-18E/F Super Hornet and French Rafael M!

if you notice china doesn't have an indigenous fighter jet J-11 is copied from russia and the j-10 is copied from Israel, J-17 doesn't count because it is inferior to a spitfire plus it has some f-16 flight characteristics in it. SU-30 is actually legally bought from russia but they used it to make j-11b's.

@nem1 Actually China don't need US as much as they need them. It was nice whilst it lasted, but America clearly don't have the money to pay for items anymore and their dollar is fast becoming valueless. China's not even worried about losing America as the buyer as they can simply direct their sales elsewhere around the world. As China continues to grow China's market will diversify and they will move on to selling technology, cars etc not just house hold goods to countries worldwide.

J-15 is not stealth at all!. But J-15 has much more composite material than the Russian SU-33 which has a 15M^2 RCS. J-15 has about 4M^2. Also, the current J-15 has AT LEAST equal radar and avonics as J-11B.
Put it this way. J-15 can smoke the current SU-33 in any sort of A2A comabat. This is why even when Russian aggree to upgrade SU-33 to Su-30MKK2 standard. The Chinese did not take the bid.
Because they already got things much better!

There's no need to argue whether or not Chinese J-?? is based on Russian Su-??. And, for the benefit of everyone, it SHOULD BE. "Dont re-invent the wheel" SHOULD BE the strategy here. Why repeat the footstep of others. Just buy it. China has the ability to invest tons of money into developing its own advanced fighter. But, the time and money should be used to develop more advance model. Not to re-inventing what other people already have.

The Indian Su-30MKI has thrust vectoring, forward canards for increased maneuverability, a very powerful radar, and an advanced IRST system. In other words it completely outclasses the Su-27SK's and J-11's in China. The J-11A is of course a better comparison, but it still lacks thrust vectoring (albeit the J-11 should have a better thrust to weight ratio).

The J-11B is simply a "more chinese" J-11A. It uses Chinese avionics and weapons systems. The J-11B isnt necessarily better than the J-11A, it is simply a response to Russia no longer providing systems for Chinese planes, so China is trying to produce the parts by itself.

China hold liecence for 200 unit J-11A. It was paid in 1990's. After 95 of J-11A was finished in 2006, PLAAF choose decline the production line and turn to J-11B. If you think J-11B isn't any better than J-11A why PLAAF do not just finish the original contract? It doesn't make sense.

@nem1 Not really, it features a Chinese OBOGS, fully digitalized avionics (which replaced the analogue Russian one on the J-11A), a Chinesemodified AL-31F engine with 1.500 flight hours (compared with the original 900 flight hours of the Russian version) etc. But you're right, China is almost self-sufficient in producing their own weapons.

You are an idont. J-11B proved to have a 11-1 kill ratio over J-11A in BVR combat. To put it this way J-11A uses the old Russian junk radar can only dectect F-16 like target at 70KM, while J-11B's radar can pick up F-16 like target over 180KM. Also, J-11B's radar can track 12 targets and engage 6 targets while J-11A's radar can only track 4 and engage 2. Not to mention J-11B's radar has far better anti jamming!
J-11B's avonics are also decades ahead!

China has put a lot of research in stealth technology especially in fighter jet; it won't be long that j11 a or b or whatever are just a distant memory when the new jxx come to service in the near future. And for j15, carrier type, china does not need a lot of them because China, I can assure you, is not going to build a large fleet of aircraft carriers like to the US to bankrupt itself; aircraft carrier is not invincible and costly to operate.

It is literally comparable to a 70's F-16. But don't be surprise that it might be futile attempt, just like the nuclear weapons built during the cold war, which some of them now are taken out of the service. I said 10 years because there isnt even a model for the aircraft. There are numerous delays when it comes to developing a fighter and with China's history with the J-10 there is little reason to believe that they will be deploying a new fighter anytime in the near future. And I dont see how nuclear weapons were a futile effort, they are very effect at preventing an all out war with any nation. Fact is that China has always been and still is behind in terms of military aviation.

@nem1 how do you know there isn't even a model for the aircraft. Are you certain? F22 program cost billions of dollars and now it is history. Enter the new F35, looks impressive, but it is a trillion program. China is not like the Soviet Union, tried to compete and squander fund just to be the king of the sky, money could be used to improve in other areas in the country. And as for the nuclear weapons, the world is moving toward nuclear proliferation which is good for everyone.

F-22's are still being upgraded so no the program isnt history. The only reason production was canceled is that the F-22 had no competitors and the F-35 program was deemed sufficient. And the F-35 is being paid for by multiple countries, not just the US by itself. And nuclear proliferation is the SPREAD of nuclear weapons, and NO that is NOT GOOD.

@nem1 Maybe part of F-22 program are used in other program, the bottom line is the whole program is not cost effective just like the over production of nuclear weapon in the cold war. To be fair if nuclear proliferation is dangerous than no country should not have this technology. But that is wishful thinking. Sooner of later, Islamic extremists will get their hand on nuclear weapons and from here your guess is good as my guess.

Don't forget , China and the emerging nations are the ones who save the world from getting into deep recession resulting from 2008 economic crisis courtesy of the US; and if that's not enough US comes up with GE2 ( after QE2 then what QE3?) which could trigger hyperinflation worldwide and many world leaders were furious questioned US action during G20 in Seoul. Nobody likes world depression not even recession but US might think ortherwise differently.
