Cut me a break, Staffordshires love doing this kind of thing because they know they will get praise for it. My Staf loves to pull weight and it's almost as if he gets upset when he doesn't get to. No, I don't feed my dog steroids, he is on an all protein diet and gets about 5 hours of exercise a day and is fully hydrated throughout the day. I don't just slap weight on him and expect him to pull, I casually work him up. He is also my best friend!

It is nothing close to animal abuse. A abused animal would not have the strength to a complish that. It's a weight pull competition which is a demonstration of it's character/strength. The character of the dog is shown threw it's own effort and is cleary not being forced. There are numerous competitive sports for a dogs agility, speed, intelect, etc. If this were abuse however, condemnation would be absolutely warranted!

If the dog didn't want to pull it would have just sat there. Believe me, I've seen dogs that refuse to even pull an empty milk jug. Pitbulls are one of the finest working dogs ever bred by man and its drive to "work" is just above and beyond. I would rather praise the trainer than bash on him for this. For the two people who decided to reply to my comment: it is my opinion. Anyone can see that the only reason the dog was pulling the weight was because he was being fed treats. That is it. The dog didn't have a choice. If the dog wasn't being coaxed or fed treats and the room was quiet and still, would the dog have pulled this large amt of weight? I don't think so. People make the choice to over tax themselves or body build, but the difference is we know our limits.
The pulling of the weight is fine. But there needs to be a limit to the weight being pulled. Just the same as people, the dogs can hurt them self. And the trainer not know it.

right, but who are you to tell some one or something that is happy doing what they do is wrong, when in fact it harms no one or nothing. these dogs are not being harmed. it's just extremely difficult. when i lift weights i don't lift the small ones i lift the biggest ones i can. that is how we get stronger. there are other ways but everyone is built different and different body types like diff exercises. pit bulls like this, like heavy weights.

These dogs aren't people and there is no guarantee that they desire to get stronger so it is not accurate to compare them to your weight lifting. I did not say that these people were wrong either! @PitBullsBiteHard I don't think dogs wish to be stronger. We all live to be happy, not strong. I don't think my dog cares about his strength or speed or anything like that even the slightest. He cares about ME and THAT is the reason he'd do something like this and why he'd throw himself in front of life threatening danger. He would not do it to prove that he is strong or in an attempt to get stronger. I don't think saying dogs do this trying to get stronger is realistic..

By the way my dog is not lazy at all, but I know that this type of thing would be the same struggle for him as it is for this dog. Brownie would try with all his might and will to do something like this, but would only be doing it to please me. Even if something hurt him badly, he'd still do it... but only to please me. Dogs are LOYAL so sometimes they'll suck it up for their owners.

Cut me a break, Staffordshires love doing this kind of thing because they know they will get praise for it. My Staf loves to pull weight and it's almost as if he gets upset when he doesn't get to. No, I don't feed my dog steroids, he is on an all protein diet and gets about 5 hours of exercise a day and is fully hydrated throughout the day. I don't just slap weight on him and expect him to pull, I casually work him up. He is also my best friend!

This is a national event like any other dog competition and supported by the UKC and other organizations. It is nothing close to animal abuse. A abused animal would not have the strength to a complish that. It's a weight pull competition which is a demonstration of it's character/strength. The character of the dog is shown threw it's own effort and is cleary not being forced. There are numerous competitive sports for a dogs agility, speed, intelect, etc. If this were abuse however, condemnation would be absolutely warranted!

You act as if this is cruelty, but for this breed, cruelty is keeping it inside of a 1 bedroom apartment and crating it while you're at work....thinking you're being a good owner. The American Pit Bull Terrier is an active, working breed and is happiest when it is ACTIVE. Where did you ever hear of this hurting a dog's body? I guess humans should stop exercising & weight training too?

@MyLifeDocumented pit bulls are amazing dogs, they have strength, intelligence and a high determination to please. i have one. this perticular video does have a dog pulling an intense amount, but these dogs are bred to WORK. hes not making this dog do something unusual. this breed thrives on physical excercise, so please stop saying its 'cruel'

@cciarp If you haven't noticed the trainer isn't whipping or using any kind of bait to "make" the dog work. He only encourages it to move on. If the dog didn't want to pull it would have just sat there. Believe me, I've seen dogs that refuse to even pull an empty milk jug. Pitbulls are one of the finest working dogs ever bred by man and its drive to "work" is just above and beyond. I would rather praise the trainer than bash on him for this. That dog really understands the concept of "work"

I love when people react to something instead of investigate. You're making assumptions that the dog is being "forced" to do something. Trust me when I say it is not being forced. I have seen plenty of dogs quit. There is no telling how this will affect the dog in the long run. The difference is, we make the choice: dogs can't voice their choice. We make them do things by bribery through coaxing and treats. That's my opinion. I don't disrespect anyone else's opinion I am just stating what I think. And if no one likes it, that's ok. You have your opinion and that is what makes America great.

For the two people who decided to reply to my comment: it is my opinion. Anyone can see that the only reason the dog was pulling the weight was because he was being fed treats. That is it. The dog didn't have a choice. If the dog wasn't being coaxed or fed treats and the room was quiet and still, would the dog have pulled this large amt of weight? I don't think so. People make the choice to over tax themselves or body build, but the difference is we know our limits.

The pulling of the weight is fine. But there needs to be a limit to the weight being pulled. Just the same as people, the dogs can hurt them self. And the trainer not know it.
