Actually, Bill drew an accurate comparison between Shawn Hornbeck's situation and that of Patty Hearst. Both were abducted and sexually abused by their captors. Bill's:
1. Rejection of the Stockholm Syndrome in both cases
2. Unsupported assumption that Shawn didn't enjoy school
3. Disregard of the fact that Shawn was found as a result of the search for a 13 year old boy.

Very disappointed in O'Reilly on this one....he should have manned up and admitted he was very wrong. These cases are taken way too lightly by too many people....an 11 year old boy can be frightened and intimidated into doing anything by an evil grown man....I've never seen Oreilly take this stance before.

As the network of bullshit, what is true and not true has no meaning to O'Reilly or FNC. Nor does the idea of integrity. That is why opinions, lies, and the truth all make equal appearances without any distinction on that network. The goal is #1 to get ratings and #2 support the RNC. I will NEVER criticise Bill O'reily and I do not see why anyone should either. Everyone should have seen and heard by now taht he is an ENTERTAINER and I treat him as such and others should treat him as such. NOTHING he says surprises me and in fact, I expect him to say even more radical and silly things. Controversy brings higher, better ratings and that is what his entire programme is based on.

He spoke out too early, before the specifics of the case came out. What he knew at first was that the boy was kidnapped and didn't escape. He didn't condone what the guy did and quickly changed his opinion when he found out the entire story. Yes, he should apologize for jumping the gun and saying that out loud without having the whole story, but I think he made up for it by the support he gave them once the report came out.

FWIW, O'Reilly's initial comments came prior to the details of sexual abuse being released and it was a theory about one particular case given the extended length of time the victim was held without escaping and his age, not all kidnapping cases in general.

Actually, Bill drew an accurate comparison between Shawn Hornbeck's situation and that of Patty Hearst. Both were abducted and sexually abused by their captors. Bill's:
1. Rejection of the Stockholm Syndrome in both cases
2. Unsupported assumption that Shawn didn't enjoy school
3. Disregard of the fact that Shawn was found as a result of the search for a 13 year old boy.

The jury prosecuting Patty Hearst rejected Stockholm Syndrome in her case as well and said she wasn't brainwashed or forced to participate in her crimes. So apparently, Bill wasn't alone in believing Hearst acted willingly and enjoyed the excitement.
His theory of Shawn and school was just that, a theory or assumption, he didn't state it as fact. People criticizing him, however, are acting as though it's a fact that that Bills assumption was wrong.

I have to say this is the first time I agree with Greta for the most part. The psychology behind all this must've been excruciating. People have varying amounts of willpower.
