  • @MyPinkRainbow

Sure i can, just let me have your details

    :-)

  • I always eat my oatmeal (in Louisiana) with milk or cream and sugar. Maybe with cinnamon sprinkled also. Interesting to read about all these ways to eat it. Maybe I will try some.

  • Yummy I like a little milk and brown sugar, raisins make it better.

  • i like steel cut oats =)

  • oh yum! :)

  • we call it oatmeal here in the states.. but i was always wondering if there was a difference.. thanks for the video!.. i like mine with more oats and less water and i add a little bit of chocolate powder (like nesquick... not healthy but still very yummy..) i also like a spoonful of peanut butter and a small squeeze of honey!... separate occasions of course!

  • OH! MY! GOD! Sacrilegious, adding anything else than salt, to porridge! As a 'true' scot, (don't wear underpants with a kilt!), there are a few things wrong here.

    1. leaving the oats soak over night in whisky, to add flavour

    2. you can cook, good porridge in a micro wave oven, faster & less pot's to clean

    3. only stir in one direction, ie clockwise!

    4. eat it by , taking a spoonful & dunking it into a cup of milk. So keeping the bowl warm & cooling the spoonful.

    love from Scotland 5* :D

  • I love porridge, especially on a wintry morning. YUMMY ☺

  • I love porridge! Add bananas and a little fresh honey or fresh maple syrup ~ yummy! :)

  • I like Cream of Wheat myself, but it's with wheat grains instead of oats. Oatmeal (as we call it) is too chunky for me. :)

  • It's what we call oatmeal! I love it with good maple syrup. :)

  • Interesting. I've never been quite sure exactly what porridge was. Now I know, and it's not so far removed from the oats we had sometimes for breakfast when I was a kid. We just didn't call them porridge. Haven't had it for probably 50 years... Hmmm...

  • I like coarse steel cut oats. Lumpy and dryish with fruit/nuts/raisins. I know, I KNOW, it sounds awful. I have heard of 2 people who put butter, salt. To each their own.

  • I love Porridge...i like milk in mine please....:) How are you feeling now dear hope your recovering fast....Hugs...♥♥♥

  • Love them also. I don't make them enough. I hope you are feeling better Dear Trish. Hugs!

  • I grew p with porridge, or oatmeal, for winter breakfasts before going off to school, we had quick Quaker oats, made by mky mother, with brown wsugar and milk on topk, mmmm can't beat the good old favs can you!

  • We used to call it "mush" when I was a kid LOL

  • Yummy winter food! My favorite is John McCann's Irish steel-cut oats with (no surprise) maple syrup. Maybe some raisins thrown in as well.

  • I had that for breakfast ... opened up the Quaker Oats single serving packet added hot water and POOF maple brown sugar *oatmeal* ready to go in an instant =o)

  • I don't know. I think Porridge to you is Oatmeal to United States.. But it does look good.

  • Hi T ! When I was a girl it was called "Porridge" here in Canada & over the years it changed to "Oatmeal" There are "Old Fashioned Cut" - like what you are using, then "Quick Cooking' which is finer (more processed) & "Instant Oatmeal" that comes in envelopes in all kinds of flavours. The 'rougher' it is..the better it is for you. Your "rough" porridge is def the best. So glad that you are feeling better. Makes sense about the debris in the gland - glad thats all it was. Strange happening tho eh

  • @mukwah1111

I don't like the instant stuff in packets, i tried it once and thought it was awful!

    :-)

  • My favorite! I eat it every day. I used the hearty oats, too, but all I do is boil water and then pour the water on the oats in a bowl. i don't actually cook it. I like the texture much better that way. It's a wonderful food, like a blank canvass, you can be creative with it.

  • @NaturalTwentyFilms

I must try it your way, i think the oats would be good and chewy that way... mmm sounds nice

    :-)

  • I love oats (the ones like yours we would call long cooking oats for oatmeal). My husband loves brown sugar and cinnamon on his and I add a bit of butter to mine. It is all according to taste, so true! Now I want some!

  • @Jinxie228

Yes i have a friend who likes to sprinkle salt on top!

I don't think there is a 'right' way to make it

    :-)

  • As a decendant of the highlanders i love Porridge anyway its made is good for me even lumpy lol :)

  • @TheJamesThomasChanne

Yes i am not Scottish but i do love my porridge!

    :-)

  • So porridge is oatmeal? Wow, all these years, who knew? My mom taught us to eat it with butter and brown sugar, but I'm trying to be healthier so I put fruit into it along with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves or whatever makes me happy. That way it's ready right out of the pot with nothing added. Blueberries (fresh or frozen) are my favorite. I'm with you - the long cooking ones have more texture and to me, that's better. I hope you feel as good as you sound!

  • @thizizliz

I love fresh fruit in my porridge too, i just throw in whatever i have available! But recently i have taken a liking to dried cranberries in it, yummy!

Yes i am doing ok thanks Liz as i hope you are too

    x hugs x

  • @twish1999 Thank you sweetness. I'm getting better every day. :) The other day I had them raw with raisins, cinnamon, and so on and cold milk. Meusli? Oh, and almonds. Too much cinnamon gave me heartburn! LOL. Keep healing friend. We'll be okay.

  • we call it oatmeal :) looks yummy

    hugs, Irene

  • @IreneK43

Oatmeal, well i didn't know that, i thought it was called porridge everywhere!

But yes it's yummy especially on a cold morning

    :-)

  • McCann's steel cut oats are big in our household. We used to eat Quaker instant oats until we tried McCann's - no comparision!! We just called it "oatmeal" in the U.S., but I take it "porridge" is the same thing; cooked oats. A little brown sugar on top is my favorite way of eating it. We don't eat it often in the summer, but it's a necessity on freezing cold (3 degrees Fahrenheit the last few days) mornings here in Minnesota. Thanks for sharing !!

  • @wdbreezy

Yes you can't beat the 'real' thing!

    :-)

  • just how i make it :) x

  • I make porridge about 4 - 5 mornings a week, Trish. Yes, I like it. Sometimes with brown sugar, or raisins and cinnamon and a splash of milk. Because I exercise in the morning, I use the oats that cook in 5 minutes. I HATE the mush of the instant stuff! I like steel-cut oats, too. - roc

  • @popparoc46

I don't like the instant stuff either Roc.... if you're going to eat porridge you need to eat the real sort!

    :-)

  • I was raised...grown on oatmeal.

We don't call it porridge and frankly it isn't. In Holland we make it with milk instead of water. Also sugar is a must. Just one table spoon will just not do.

I will give it a go with just water. But I though you had to make the porridge the night before and eat it with warm milk the next morning. At least that is what they taught me in English lesson years ago.

  • @PuppyZwolle

My Mum always used to make it the night before, but i find that way it is too thick for my taste if you do that as it thickens on standing.... i think there isn't a right or a wrong way to make it, just make it how you like it!

    :-)

  • Your operation is a couple days away?

  • @freitasex

It was last monday, all went smoothly...they found a lot of debris in the duct, i feel fine now but i am still unsure if this has 'fixed' the problem or not, but time will tell

  • Brilliant Twish. Love porridge but we make it the "unhealthy"way...with milk and, as you say, with a big spoon of golden syrup. It is a healthy hearty start for the day.

  • @markdon16

My Mum used to make it the same way you do, but she would make it the night before and re-heat it but i find it gets too thick that way for my taste

    :-)

  • This was very interesting, thank you!

  • @SugarInHisBlood

    Thanks for watching!

    :-)
