The UN will stay around because everyone has a use for it. The big 5 (US, UK, France, China and Russia) have used it time and again to further their goals or to not be humiliated by a failed military action. The Regional powers use it to keep the lower powers in line, and the lower powers use it to voice their opinions in, quite literally, the only place in the world that anyone cares. No to mention UNESCO builds schools in Africa, that will make them reluctant to see it go.

It's a joke. Basically the US uses it to legitimise it's imperialistic behaviour. China and Russia abstain from key votes in order to show disdain but they still don't have the balls to veto. NATO and the UN, dismantle the fuckin lot.

If UN expects respect, they must show it by action in disciplining the big boys like US unlawful invasions and resulting humanitarian crisis. I think, the performances of UN employees must be reviewed by all member states, instead of allowing them to enjoy benefits while doing nothing constructive. The question is how much "inofficial activity" does the UNO have?Does the US really play such a big role in the UN because it gives 23% of it's funds,or are there more mechanisms like the veto, which means that UN-system itself makes it inefficient? I think that the inefficiance of the UN exists due to its structure (Sec.Council at its best and the vetos), not just because of the "evil USA" and their influence.We need some big reforms here.
