Kirk hammet is probably a better guitarist overall, as that is all he does, but james probably has more talent. i dont mean to sound like an asshole, coz i know that metallica have so muhc talent it starts overflowing from their ears. james does vocals, most of the lyrics, and guitar, so again, it depends. am i enuff of a REAL metallica fan now?

Im not comparing solos dude, id you think Kirk is better because he makes solos, youre totally wrong... the best guitarrists are not praised by their fast solos, but by their rhytmic guitar skill... for example Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, or even Eddie Van Halen... James has a greater guitar skill than Kirk, but Kirk has a faster tremolo etc, both are in the top, but James is better than Kirk... ah, and the first master of puppets solo is played by both

i have every single metallica album and they are one of my all time fav bands, so im nt a hater or nefin. yer it did have good variety but there were around 3 of the solo's 9at least) played majoritly on the pentagonic scale. u should try and have a listen to the arpeggios in the glass prison by petrucci
