I agree with the theory, but there is no way of knowing what your opponents intentions are other then to hurt you. That technique leaves you open to kicks, which experience has proven that when attacked by more then two or three at a time, one will surely kick first, I teach my students to keep the largest attacker between them and the rest of the bunch.. the biggest body makes the best shield, and will be the first to get it if you cannot escape..

sensei my brother is a 4th degree black belt most of my martial arts i've learned from him. i've seen him knock out 10 people in the dojo where he used to train he has taught us not to be surrounded and to stay to the far side as possible. but your way is a good way also.
